Thinking of you for the next three weeks Tempi!

Hi Coggy - you ok?

coggy · 15/09/2007 21:47

Had a depressed afternoon....thinking about the possibility of needing to take the next step and all that involves...long drawn out process of adoption if it comes to that......

...should really just focus on now but it's my birthday in a week or so and I am feeling old and past it!!

I always thought my purpose in life would be looking after a family....now a bit worried that I may be purpose-less....if I look for an alternative I may find nothing!!!!

I'm okay tonight though....watched Casulty which always cheers me up!!!!!

You re going to start pacing before long I reckon Tempi!!!
I know I would be!!!!

Hello and waves to Chocolatedays.
I had a look around FF...I think it'll take a while to get my head round all of that movement on their site!!
A lot of leaping around and flashing eh??!!!
LOL!!!!

I read some really interesting posts though...thanks for that.

(hope you don't mind me hijacking the thread for a mo Tempi)
Hi Coggy
I think all us apparently perma-residents of the MN conception topic go through tough patches of wondering if not family then what next. (I know I do)

I recently had a very cathartic experience of spending a couple of days with other childless women. It was just a coincidence we got together and made a huge change from being the only barren one in a sea of ooops I'm pg again mates.
The reasons for the no kids were diverse and one of the older women was a great inspiration. She & her dh eventually came to terms with not having their own kids and decided to throw open their house to the kids of friends and family. Before long their lives were filled with kids - and at times she has been closer to the kids than the parents... and provided a much needed safe bolthole(esp those with tough teenage years).
At the moment I crave to breastfeed my own children - to nurture them every step of the way - but her glow and contentment as she talked about her fulfillment gave me some hope for the future.

FF is pretty freaky at first - some threads are worse than others - however the info and support is string - and I have found some threads to be calmer!
I have also found you can ask very specific question about your own scenario and the moderators will make sure they put it in the right place to get responses.
Choc xx

Ooops. That was a bit long winded.

coggy · 16/09/2007 21:31

No...it was lovely thank you.
I appreciated you taking the time to write that all down and I have read it through several times.

tempi · 17/09/2007 08:41

Hi coggy sorry about how you feel! did I ask you before ... have you considered donor IVF???????????????

My dh and I was also going down the adoption route.......but we decided before that we wanted one of our own. May still do adoption even if we are successful at the IVF, but we really wanted one of our own!

Me and my donor had duel appointments yesterday. My uterine lining is nice and ready for the embryos, but 2 of her follicles have not grown enough, so they want her to inject another 3 extra days... they feel egg harvest will now be this Thursday and transfer will be Saturday......... I am excited, but there are still so many vital stages (how many eggs will they get, how many will fertilise and how many top grade embryos will be produced) So can't really allow ourselves to be that excited about it all.

And to top the lot..... WILL IT WORK WILL WE GET PREGNANT! WHAT A BLOODY MINE FIELD!!!!

Anyway still trying to stay calm and positive.

Hope you feel a little better.

I haven't really considered donor IVF. It was never given as an option to me.
I think my problem is my very short luteal phase (only 8 days) so I guess donor IVF wouldn't solve that.
Maybe it will be an alternative...I don't know...I guess they'll discuss all this at my IVF planning meeting??!

My follicles were never grown on time!
I was constantly being asked to come back in a couple of days!
I appear to have slow growers even when drugged!!!

Fingers all crossed for Thursday then....another day for you to wait!

We need an impatient emoticon don't we?!

suss · 17/09/2007 21:35

coggy if you decide to go ahead with ivf they will give enough hormones to give a horse a longer luteal phase! I don't know how old you are - just picked up on this thread but don't give up ivf does work. I had slightly raised fsh levels at 28 and it did take me a wacking 7 years to have my ds. But we do have a darling darling boy. I know someone else who succeeded after their 19th attempt and I know 2 people who were pregnant after their first attempt. persistence and acupuncture (in my case) seem to be the most important things. Good luck with the ivf

tempi · 18/09/2007 19:07

coggy!!!!!!!! suss is right.......donor IVF WILL WILL WILL WILL fix short luteal phase!!!!!! as they give you all the hormones instead of you producing them!!!!!!

OMG you need to look at donor IVF!!!!!!!!!!!

My donor is now ready 6 good size folicles and 7 smaller ones is this normal???????

Embryo tranfer for me is Saturday.
[very very very impatient emoticon] !!!!

Hello girls can I gatecrash??

Like suss i haven't read what stages you are at but I agree with suss coggy - the luteal phase is lengthened during the 2ww by the use of progesterone pessaries (YUK). They are used to postpone AF coming & therefore lengthen the luteal phase... have you used them before with IUI?

However this is for any IVF - I really don't think donor IVF will make any difference to your luteal phase! It will help if your eggs are poor quality but it really won't work where your own eggs fail because of luteal phase... it would make no difference (in my opinion). sorry tempi. if your AF is going to come and prevent implantation of the embryo it won't make any difference as to where that embryo originates.

Hope this makes sense and you don't mind me posting

Chocolatedays · 18/09/2007 20:43

Hi Tempi
6 good size and 7 small ones is great. It may well be a few of the 7 also mature enough too.
6 is plenty! (assuming you don't want more than 6 embies tranferred )
Good luck for Thurs!!

Hi Coggy
I also have a short luteal phase (8-10 days). I have been told by Hammersmith Hospital they do not think it is a problem and one of the docs has a 20 day cycle and 8 day LP and two kids naturally. (of course I was not jealous at all!!!).

However.... my acupuncturist is interested in the short LP and he is the first person to have said he thinks my short LP is less about the quality of the second have of my cycle and more of a problem with the first half. His treatments have made me ov earlier and is starting to lengthen the LP.

In my experience of IVF my LP was still shorter than 14 days - and next time I may have intramuscular progesterone injected for 14 days past transfer... so there are things that can be done... so don't despair.

Hun - if you can, don't fret about IVF - there is plenty of time to do that when you are going through it!

tempi · 18/09/2007 21:15

rosy! sorry...... I meant any IVF will provide the hormones to sort out coggy's short LP...I only mentioned donor IVF cos of coggy's history!

OP posts:
tempi · 18/09/2007 21:19

choco.......You do make me laugh!!! yes we only need 2 embies to transfer! but would have liked some to freeze in case they don't 'take' as we will never ever find another donor and can not afford another IVF cycle!

OP posts:
Chocolatedays · 18/09/2007 21:26

Hiya - I saw you have another thread on the go - and I agree with the qual vs quant comments.

Are you doing IVF or ICSI. Fertilisation rates are higher with ICSI (pay for this if Private and may be able to ask for it if NHS)
Down side with ICSI is you loose the natural selection process ... but may be wortha quick chat with teh embryologists??

RosyBelle · 18/09/2007 21:37

Oh sorry tempi - I didn't know coggy had previous history with other problems. I thought that her IVF was using her own eggs. Sorry to be talking about you coggy!!

I mentioned on the other thread my fertilisation rate of 100% - & choclatedays is right - this was with ICSI. IVF may not produce such a high success rate but as they will be self selecting sperm they may be great embryos... its all a juggling act I'm afraid but the consultants will guide you in the right direction.

Chocolatedays · 19/09/2007 18:52

Hi Tempi - amy news or just waiting?

All the best for tomorrow.

Chocolatedays · 19/09/2007 18:53

Not sure who amy is!!

amy = any!

tempi · 19/09/2007 20:09

We are private patients in an NHS hospital, but we have never seen a consultant through all our IVF, do you guys think this is strange??????? apart from the initial start consultation. A registrar had a look at dh sperm analysis and he said it was that good we do not need ICSI

all our appointments have been with a donor nurse or a junior doctor!

OP posts:
Chocolatedays · 19/09/2007 20:34

I didn't see a consultant through mine either.
Are you at Hammersmith?

suss · 19/09/2007 20:53

I am at the chelsea & westminster and usually my consultant performs the egg collection and the embryo transfer, but I know in the nhs it is not uncommon not to see a consultant during treatment. DS was our 10th ivf attempt and I am plucking up the courage to give a fourth attempt (since ds) if I am not too late in November. Good luck tempi I hope everything works out - I am sure it will. Choc you seem to have much experience of the fertility clinic! Are you trying again?

RosyBelle · 19/09/2007 20:59

I saw my consultant once at the beginning and then not at all until he did both EC & ET.... so its not unusual... both my cycles were privately funded...

If there is a good crop of eggs they can split it on the EC day - and do half IVF & half ICSI... it means that if IVF didn't work so well you still get a chance with ICSI.. but if your consultant says you will be fine with IVF then thats good news... and its cheaper!
Good luck Tempi xx

Chocolatedays · 19/09/2007 21:13

Hi Suss
Trying again soon (2nd attempt - no kids so far!)

Any advise or top tips - you have bags of experience and success - have you been with the same clinic the whole time?
