Ovulation tests a stress or a bonus?

Hi There, So myself and good hubby are close to one year ttc our first :-(... have done most blood tests semen tests etc and all good so far just awaiting on hsg test , last month i decided to give clearblue ov tests a go, my app predicted ovulation would be Nov 16th , (I started testing that day and continued for10 days ... all negative. Then Sunday eve just gone (CD 26) had slight brwn spotting and then a flow of red straight after - very strange early light period with no cramps. I've a bad viral infection at the moment , and not feeling great all round.I have done a pregnancy test that was negative. i am usually very regular on cycle 28 days. So a period 2 days early and negative ovulation tests , any advice ? ... Getting very down and depressed was hoping for a jingle bell surprise :-/ ... thanks everyone.

Hi I started testing cd 11 ...first morning urine - same time every day , find it strange that I got period 2 days early with no cramps either

I think you're not meant to test with first morning urine with opks, I usually start testing from about the same day, and do it twice a day once in morning around 10am and then on the afternoon again about 3ish. That way I manage to catch my surge ! They are a nightmare though as I end up staring at them confusing myself even more !
Did you notice any other ovulation signs this cycle?

The clear blue digital ones do ask you to use first morning wee. So did you get an empty circle the whole month? Xx

Gosh that sounds like a lot of testing ! - I used the cb digital ones , first morning urine, and just an empty circle all tests :-( ... was bad enough not getting bfn for 10 months to then get negative ovulation --- crikey.

It is strange to get an empty circle all month as most people at least the a flashing face. Are you using the dual hormone clear blue tests of just the lh surge tests? Xx

The fuel hormone ones you get either an empty circle, a flashing face and then a static face. The single hormone tests I think I you just get an empty circle and then a smiley face? If your using the tests that only measure lh then it is possible that if you've been ill you didn't ovulate this month? Xx

Sounds like you started doing the opks too late, you’re supposed to start well in advance of your ovulation not on the expected day. Your cycle was short so you probably ovulated earlier than you expected.

Starting early means you track the increase of the hormone (flashy face) and then the peak.

If you want to be more confident, start just after your period stops.

I’ve actually just started using an OvuSense to try and understand my ovulation better, that’s an internal sensor you use overnight linked to an app.

Yes i used the cd digital the one that tests It's the only ovulation test to accurately track not only luteinising hormone, but also estrogen to identify your wider fertility window. ... Yes fingers crossed i started testing too early , i just hope i am ovulating. very regular 28 day cycle . i do notice cervical mucus around same time app predicts ov ... have to see i guess this month has been completely off ... 25 days , period very light no cramps. the mystery of it all , bring on the bfp !

For some people testing once a day is not enough as the surge can be quick. As someone else said it's best to test twice a day at least until you get a better sense of your cycle. Personally I find OPKs reduce stress but it takes a bit of trial and error to figure out your cycle. Best of luck

Thank you for reply I'm still spotting negative preg tests so just taking AF arrived 😏 a very strange period but probably because I'm under the weather too hormones all over the place- this ttc so challenging .... Not myself at all

I've found since ttc my periods have been strange, and maybe we tend notice things We normally wouldn't! It's still disappointing though isn't it been trying for best part of 3 years now and on clomid, actually convinced myself it'd work first time, now going into month 4 on it.
