Hi all,

After ttc for one year, my DH and I have had some tests- mine came back fine but DH SA came back as 0 normal forms and very low motility (18%), sperm count fine at 97 million.

We've only seen his results come through online and don't have a doctors appointment to talk it through until another week, but obviously we are upset to see such poor results and are eager to understand what this means for us and whether we'll be able to conceive naturally.

Any help or advice very much welcome!

I hope you get some feedback from this! My dp has low morphology and we were told it an issue as he has a lot of it! Time will tell xxx

MallonMary · 03/12/2019 08:13

Hi sunflower,

Do you mean you were told it was an issue or wasn't?

I couldn't quite work out from your message x

No they said it wasn’t an issue.. as one sperm test isn’t accurate, also if there’s plenty of sperm it only takes 1 to be strong and make it! They said it can take upto a year to conceive with most couples and most of those couples their dp has issues with sperm in some way, whether it’s lack of poor motility or low morphology... I have actually made a post about this and had a few replies.. I’ll find it attach xxx

Sunflower2019 · 03/12/2019 08:49

Plus I’ve heard vitamins and changing diet can help.. cq10? My dp is now taking that! X

MallonMary · 03/12/2019 14:10

Thank you! Not sure how to see the attachment- is it there? X

@Sunflower2019 just wondered if you've had any luck your side yet?

After 8 week wait since we were referred, we had our appointment with fertility consultant yesterday.

So basically he said sperm regenerates every few months so he can’t go by that one SA alone. He said of all the millions of sperm deposited, the lab only put about 30-40 (not million, literally just 30-40) under a microscope and create the results from that alone. So he's sending dh for another SA to see if it comes up the same.

I'm so hoping it's improved as he's been taking vitamins since the last results, but we'll see.

Anyway,'he said we have to be trying for two years before we qualify for ivf so that wouldn't be until November.

Hope you have better news?

Hi Mallon, I remember you from one of my threads. Your dh's results sound very simlar to mine, only hes at 10%. We've decided to spend the next 4 months overhauling his diet and lifestyle, then will do another analysis to see if theres any improvement. I read that 2000mgs of vit c a day improve motility, so he's doing that. What supplements are you using?

Sunflower, I'm just looking in cq10 now, do you know how much they need to take a day, to improve sperm?

Sunflower2019 · 11/02/2020 06:06

@MallonMary yes I’m pregnant :) 9 weeks this week!!! The morphology wasn’t an issue :) he did take a whole bottle of CQ10 for a month so may of helped but there is light at the end of the tunnel xx

Sunflower2019 · 11/02/2020 06:08

We got CQ10 from Superdrug and it was one a day and concieve plus lubricant to help swimmers (also Superdrug) xx

PurpleEllie · 11/02/2020 08:42

Congratulations sunflower!!! How long had you been trying for?

Sunflower2019 · 11/02/2020 09:42

Thank you 😊 Started trying June 2019 Then had the SA and I had tests mine came back fine although I’m a lot older than dp, we were worried about the morphology but there’s a lot of evidence to say it’s not actually a big issue online! We just kept going and we’ve been lucky! So hopefully will make you ladies feel better xx

PurpleEllie · 11/02/2020 12:01

Sunflower, do you know what his motility was? My DH only has 10% , but morpholgy is fine. Its been almost 2 years of trying and I'm going a wee bit crazy!

MallonMary · 11/02/2020 13:30

@Sunflower2019 that is amazing news!!! Congratulations and gives me hope too. Hope you have a very happy and healthy pregnancy xx
