Coming off the pill

Hello!

I’m looking to see how long after coming off the pill you fell pregnant, as well as how long it took your periods to get into a ‘normal’ routine?

OP posts:

Following as if also like to know - came off microgynon middle of September, withdrawal bleed as normal then absolutely nothing til about 3 days of spotting 2 weeks ago, to full blown AF starting tuesday this week. Used OPKs on and off but never had a positive, as if TTC isn't confusing enough without having a proper cycle! I wish I'd came off the pill sooner x

zeeeex · 29/11/2019 12:41

Me too! I came off Microgynon mid October, had a 4 day withdrawal bleed and haven't had anything since. I've been having cramps for the past two weeks or so and have some other symptoms but don't want to be symptom spotting. Been 5-6 weeks and I've not had a period?

albus55 · 29/11/2019 12:50

I was on Microgynon. First time I came off had a normal period within a week and then normal cycle for 4 months before falling pregnant. Second time I came off had a normal period again within a week and was pregnant within 2 months - everyone is different!

wholemeal121 · 29/11/2019 13:08

Hi Ktyoyo, I'm probably an extreme example but it took a year before my cycles settled into a consistent and sensible length. My third cycle was 42 days so GP did some bloods and confirmed I was ovulating and everything else was ok. I started temping and this helped me feel I had more control and although it didn't help for timing BD, at least I knew when I had ovulated and when AF was due. Good luck x

bluebell94 · 29/11/2019 13:18

@zeeeex that's like me, I had nothing after my withdrawal bleed for 7 weeks then had 3 days spotting, nothing for another 2 weeks now proper AF. I just want to know where I'm at! Fingers crossed something happens for you soon, it's horrible waiting and having no idea x

zeeeex · 29/11/2019 16:01

@bluebell94 I really hope AF doesn't appear... I usually never have cramps unless AF is actually here but had them for ages now! I have an exam on Tuesday so not testing until that I done and dusted!! Have you tested?

MrsCl19 · 30/11/2019 06:40

First time I came off mini pill in 2017 had withdrawal then nothing for 6 months then get a bfp, Dd is now 22 months

This time came off October had withdrawal then 6 weeks later lots of brown discharge then af.

I'd recommend taking your vitamins, drinking loads of water and exercise. I also take something called agnus castus but would recommend you do your own reading as there's pros and cons but deffo believe it works.

I stopped in Aug. Still waiting for AF/Breakthrough bleed. I did test ovulation using clear blue (two sets as I ran out of sticks whilst testing) over a good few weeks, negative circles then I had flashing smileys (on the two sets) but didn’t get a solid.... then I got my negative circle again.

Never hoped for AF more in my life so we can actually have a starting point! I’ve heard it can take months and months... I’m on month 4 so wondering when it’s time to speak to the doctor Smile

Just keep taking your folic acid and don’t stress. Stress is the enemy!

WINGING19 · 01/12/2019 21:43

Joining this as I'm also in limbo!

Stopped microgynon at end of pack - withdrawal as normal - all-sorts of side effects Inc (tmi sorry) egg white for like 4 days, then 30 days later after withdrawal what I thought was normal AF, but only lasted 24 hours. Then from cd18 had light spotting for 3 days. Now on cd32 and no AF. Not a clue what's going on! Not actively TTC but have been doing the deed so to speak. Keep getting the odd twinge, not cramp, have been doing for the past week or so but that's it. Cm pretty normal. Confused

Mycrazylife85 · 01/12/2019 22:28

This is a 'how long is a piece of string' question unfortunately. It doesn't matter about others really, everyone is different. I know if people got pregnant no sooner than look at it 🍆 and I'm 11 months in currently cd67. Who knows which one you'll be but I hope it's what you want

MayDay27 · 01/12/2019 22:36

Following! I came off the pill a week ago, had a withdrawal bleed and now just waiting for my first natural period. Never wanted to have a period so much! Just want to find out what my cycle is and getting using the Ovia app!

Marshmallow1992 · 01/12/2019 22:55

My cycles evened out immediately but then became a bit longer (28 days to 33 days). I became pregnant 9 months after coming off it. Currently 31 weeks. Was on it for 10 years. Try not to stress about it. I did and it just made me an anxious, emotional wreck.

mummabubs · 01/12/2019 22:59

First time ttc I was on the combined pill and was pregnant first month of trying. After DS when we started ttc #2 I was on the progesterone only pill (due to breastfeeding) and this time took a good 5/6 months to get signs I was ovulating again and still haven't become pregnant. The nurse I went to recently mentioned that apparently it's well-known that coming off the progesterone only pill can take much longer to go back to normal cycles than the combined... I wish I'd known that!!

zeeeex · 02/12/2019 21:56

I still have no sign of AF! Withdrawal bleed finished about 20th October. Think I might test tomorrow as still getting some symptoms. Put my mind at rest if anything. How about you guys? X

Charl1009 · 02/12/2019 22:24

I was on microgynon until spring this year took me just over 6 weeks to have my first AF/break through. I’m now on cycle 4 with 40 day cycles every month!

Sunshine2988 · 02/12/2019 22:31

I was on Loestrin for 9 years, and like @wholemeal121 I came off the pill just over 1 year ago and I have only just had my first ovulatory cycle (bought an OvuSense to track bbt).
Everybody is so different though like it’s been said there’s no way of knowing! It’s so frustrating though I wish I had come off the pill sooner!

WINGING19 · 03/12/2019 07:12

Tested this morning as still nothing, negative, the limbo continues!

mimmi91 · 13/12/2019 09:53

Hi all, I'm joining this thread as I've got similar issues! Am wondering if anyone's AF has arrived since you all last posted earlier this month? :)
I went off my pill (Rigevidon, after 7 years) on 15/09, had first probable ovulation at the end of October, and then a "brown period" (ie 4 days of brown spotting) mid-November. Thought my real period would follow, but no... Pregnancy test was negative.
Due to my BBT & CM tracking, I think I ovulated again on the 02/12, so a period should technically be due any day now... Can't help but feel extremely anxious every morning checking my temp to see if it dips (as a telltale sign that period is coming)...
Can't help but hope that ovulation is enough to get pregnant before a real red flow comes along...

WINGING19 · 13/12/2019 10:31

Still nothing for me, another negative test test. Now on cd 44.

Mycrazylife85 · 13/12/2019 10:54

@mimmi91 my AF has still not arrived, I'm currently CD79. I had a doctors appointment the other week and have a blood slip for when my period does arrive to go in and have bloods done. Yesterday I had a transvaginal and abdominal ultrasound and they did note I have a number of follicles and a cyst. I'm pleased really as I had my first scan and PCOS diagnosis at 16 then my last scan in 2016 showed good ovaries so I've had to do it all again. It's been quick. If my period hasn't arrived in a month I'll go back to the doctors. They've then said my husband will need to provide a sperm sample and then it may be Chlomid for me if his sample is good. I've just started temping too (which is interesting). I'm more relaxed now about it all. Good luck all

donut8 · 13/12/2019 11:12

I came off my pill in February and it took about 6/7 months for my periods to become regular.

Kyoyo · 13/12/2019 11:18

Hello thanks for all your comments! I had a withdrawal bleed 4 days after coming off the pill and then two weeks ago have a normal period. So fingers crossed we get a positive soon!

Itstime1 · 13/12/2019 11:37

I think I had AF last week, thankfully it went back to ‘normal’ routine of 3 days like before I was on the pill/Depo shot so it finished Sunday/Monday. Now I’m testing with clear blue OPK every day to get a base line of what’s going on..... It’s expensive and slightly OTT but for us as a couple we would rather have an idea of what’s going on. If it’s still slightly messed up in the new year we will book for a private fertility scan/check up to see what’s going on with my body Hmm

Unfortunately it’s all just a waiting game and like so many others, I’m just impatient Blush

mimmi91 · 13/12/2019 12:32

What I really wish is for more people to speak up that they've actually gotten pregnant while having these weird brown / inexistant periods! It would reassure me a lot, considering I think I am actually ovulating.
Do you all still notice ovulations despite no periods? Or nothing whatsoever?

Stef92 · 13/12/2019 12:43

I came off Rigevidon at the end of May (we got married earlier in the month). First TTC and my cycles have been all over the place. I used to be 28 days on the dot but the lengths of my cycles have been odd. In the last 3 months I've had 30 days, 27 days and 24 days so I have no idea when the earliest I can test this month is! I got a static smiley on clearblue ovulation test on the 6th and we think we've covered the dates but who knows? I'm getting a bit crampy this week and have felt nauseous all week. X
