Hello there,
Im new to mumsnet 👋 Still working it all out.
I have been ttc with my other half but its only recently that we are taking it seriously. However I am freaking myself out as I stupidly went out for works drinks last week and drank a load. Yes not the best idea and its not something I usually do and wont be anytime soon. I am due on next week. If we are successful with conceiving would this affect the baby as I am terrified.
I am kicking myself for getting so drunk so there is nothing anyone can say to make me feel any worse.
Obviously not going to be so silly again and am abstaining from now on.
Thanks in advance

Op, I’m not an adult expert but I don’t think alcohol stays in yr system for that long! A day then that’s stupid, but a week? Am sure you will be fine, cut yrself some slack ttc can be a tough place with lots of stresses.... good luck

I am currently pregnant and I joke that this baby was conceived on fags and cider! (obviously stopped as soon as I saw the positive test result!)

I had been trying to conceive for a while and had kind of given up, then I did a pregnancy test and got a positive result. I'm in my third trimester now and I've had the easiest, healthiest pregnancy so far (fingers crossed it carries on this way). Baby has always been healthy and is showing at a normal growth rate etc.

In short, don't worry about it. Loads of people drink before realising they're pregnant and it's fine. Some people are skydiving and going on rollercoasters and all sorts! One night of drinking will not ruin anything. Chin up.

Don’t panic. Until the placenta develops they can’t pick up alcohol from your blood stream. If you did conceive, it’s unlikely the embryo would even have implanted, let alone started developing placenta etc.
Many people choose to drink less while ttc because alcohol can impact on your fertility, not because it would be harmful to the child at that stage.
So don’t feel bad!

Thank you 😊 you have really reassured me.
Goodness what am I going to be like when I do conceive?? A blubbing mess. Just means so much now to have a baby so need to ease off the pressure on myself.
@GagaBinks good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x

Oh, you’ll blub. The number of things I cried at when I was expecting DD..... I was a soggy mess half the time! Any vaguely sweet anecdote from someone and I just couldn’t hold back the tears Smile

Try and take the pressure off if you can. I know that’s a lot easier to say than do - I’m hating ttc#2, I feel so aware of the widening age gap - but you want to value the life you have now before it changes. Then you won’t feel like you missed out when it does and can enjoy those changes.
