TMI - was this ovulation?

According to my ovulation app, ovulation was Friday. However, today I had a weird cramp that went away quickly, and an hour ago emitted a big dollop of vaginal discharge (sorry TMI) that was clear and like egg white. I obviously went to find DH immediately to DTD Grin

Are these symptoms of ovulation? I've googled this to death, so looking for some real life experience. We've been trying for something like 6 months now, so driving myself a bit crazy.

Are you temperature tracking OP? If you are the next couple of days should show ovulation as your temp will rise and stay there.
Otherwise egg white mucus is usually a sign of fertile time so it’s quite possible.

BabyB19 · 10/11/2019 15:12

I've been trying to figure this out by symptom spotting the last few cycles and thought I'd got it right but this month have used opk's and it turns out I was actually FOUR DAYS! Out! And so have been having sex in the wrong times and practically missing the whole fertile window! Maybe try this too x

AriadneO · 10/11/2019 18:16

Thanks for the replies. I've been using the cheap OPKs and the line gets darker over the fertile window, but it never goes as dark as the control line until like 10 mins later. So I've sort of given up with them!

Interested in any answers too- my opks tend to stay positive for 3 days but I get what OP describes (discharge etc) about 2-3 days after they've gone back to negative. Confused as to when ovulation actually is!

keepingbees · 10/11/2019 18:40

If you're tracking your cycles (I'm not ttc but I use the Clue app which is good) your period will always arrive 14 days after ovulation occurred. So if you look back you should be able to pin point the day and any symptoms you had.
I get egg white mucus for about a week, with ovulation happening at the end usually. I get a distinctive ovulation pain which feels 'sore' on one side of my lower abdomen and lasts several hours.
The LH surge that gets picked up on the tests usually happens just before ovulation. My lines never matched the control line on cheapies either Op, even the month I conceived.

AriadneO · 10/11/2019 19:15

@keepingbees is it always 14 days though? I use Clue too and it uses the 14 day assumption, but I've read posters on here talking about a short luteal phase, which isn't conducive to conception, so am a bit confused.

OP posts:
AriadneO · 10/11/2019 19:17

But glad to hear I'm not the only one not getting lines with OPKs - I was starting to wonder if I was having anovulatory periods.

OP posts:
keepingbees · 10/11/2019 21:30

I'm not sure actually about short luteal phases. I was of the understanding that a period is always 14 days after ovulation. So if a period is late, it was actually the ovulation that was late not the period, if that makes sense.
I have occasional long cycles and I know when to expect them now as I can tell when I've ovulated late.
Sorry I'm probably being no help at all!

Hi everyone, I’m new to this site , I’m 36 yrs old and TTC last 2 months . I’m trying to watch for the signs of ovulation usually tender breasts, sharp pain in one side and fatigue indicate that im ovulating but my app shows me usually later dates. I thought I ovulated on the 7 th or 8 th day of my cycle (my average cycle 24 days, last month 26 tho ) according to my signs. I used ovulation sticks on the 9 th and 10 th of my cycle because app showed me that I I suppose to ovulate on the 11 th on Saturday and they were negative ! I think I’m going all confused 🤷‍♀️ when Do I actually ovulate ! Sorry just looking for advice and see if Any one share the same struggles with ovulation dates !

AriadneO · 11/11/2019 12:57

@Aggie53 it might be because your LH surges are brief, so if you were only testing once a day, you might have missed them. Someone on here recommended that I tested twice a day, ideally mid morning and mid afternoon, as those were the most probable times for surges. Of course, I never quite managed this strict regimen of testing twice daily at specific times, which is probably a contributing factor to my lack of results from OPKs.

Aggie53 · 11/11/2019 15:37

@AriadneO oh i see well i tried twice within one day and then next day in the morning but to be honest i did not feel anything if that was my 1 or 2 days before ovulation ,according to my app. I just dont know if i should follow my feeling and my body signs or the app which i think might be less accurate !! my cycle on average are 24 but some month 23 some 25 depends i guess the same with the ovulation day. You are right about the LH its hard to detect, and i would need to test more. Thx for advice.

AriadneO · 11/11/2019 15:56

@Aggie53 have you tried the SMEP? Basically the advice is to do it lots over an extended period around the estimated ovulation date, so that it doesn't even matter when exactly ovulation was! We tried one month but were exhausted, but I know some posters have more energy!

OP posts:
Aggie53 · 11/11/2019 21:02

@AriadneO never tried SMEP ? Have to be honest what SMEP stands for Blush sorry embarrassing but don’t know !

AriadneO · 11/11/2019 21:06

Oh sorry it's sperm meets egg plan Smile spermmeetseggplan.com/ I hope it works for you!

ilovetrees30 · 11/11/2019 21:09

Theres no guarantee your period is always 14 days after your ovulation however your luteal phase will always in theory be the same (unless there are underlying hormonal things going on) my luteal phase for example is 12days so i have a 26day cycle

Aggie53 · 11/11/2019 23:29

@AriadneO thank you for explanation I’m a bit slow in terms 🤦‍♀️, well I wouldn’t really rely exactly on 10 CD of my cycle being the start day for the testing with OPK because I might have ovulated earlier , each month can vary . I went to see my OBG doc on Aug I was 7 CD then and he told me I’m just about to ovulate ‘🤔😳 He told me to start TTC on day 5 or 6 of my cycle , it’s just really hard to point the exact day I mean for me even tho I have quite regular cycles 24 ~26 days ! Crazy !!!!!
