Mid-cycle bleeding for 10 days (?!), cramping, back ache.

Hi everyone,

Apologies if this isn't in the right category - only just made this account and not overly sure on how Mumsnet works!

I had my last period from the 25th of September until the 30th. A week after it finished, I started bleeding again on the 7th - just a slight line of very pale pink blood when wiping. I assumed this was ovulation bleeding, which I don't usually have, but was the only thing I could narrow it down to after a quick google search. I've been having upper and lower back pain and cramping on both sides of my abdomen, and last night before bed I vomited the whole contents of my stomach. I've also been feeling really hot internally but seem okay to the touch.

I'm now getting slightly worried because I'm still bleeding (albeit still very lightly) and it's been 10 days. I have just moved to a new city and have registered at the GP but my registration is still processing and I have to go for a "welcome" appointment before I can even book myself in for anything else. I have just turned 25 and am awaiting my first smear so unsure whether it might be an issue with my cervix.

Anyone been through anything similar or know what the symptoms might be linked with?

Thanks in advance for responses.

Hello, didn't want to read and dash!
I've not really got any helpful insights for you OP but i'd get in touch with a GP if you are worried or request a call back.
Are you on new contraception? New partner ? (i'm thinking.... unprotected)
Get your smear booked in also, you should have had a letter before the age of 25 inviting you!
Hope you feel better soon

Thanks for responding anyway @CharlieB93

I've been with the same partner for the past 3 years however we don't use contraception. I tested this morning and got a negative result but have a spare test handy that I'll do if no period when I'm due but that's not for 10 days.

Have called the GP and they should get back to me tomorrow with a date for my first appointment as a new patient so will arrange my smear and explain the bleeding to them. Just wanted some peace of mind until then if anyone was able to offer.

@ellllierose I could have written this word for word. Came on my period 5th Oct - 8th Oct then started bleeding again on Monday (14th) and am still spotting now. It started off light pink / fresh blood but the last couple of days has gone darker with some clotting. I also put it down to ovulation bleeding at first but sounds as though that is usually only 2 days.

Got 2 x positive tests earlier in the week followed by a negative and then read that blood can cause false positives so haven't tested again since. I think it's highly unlikely I'm pregnant as like I said I had a proper period at the beginning of the month so also interesting to see if anyone else has experienced this.

@Whambam89 Thanks for responding.

Yeah I get what you mean - I also doubt it's pregnancy related because of my normal period at the end of September, but with the cramps and back pain I just wanted to see if a test would show anything. I've stopped bleeding now and the cramps have settled down a bit but still having light twinges.

My bleeding stayed light in colour and flow for the whole 10 days so not sure why you'd be clotting. Are you having any pain? I'm really stumped and still no word from the GP. Hoping it's just some kind of hormone glitch and I'll be back to normal next month but I can't help but worry about something more sinister being wrong because I'm only 25 and a lot of the women who have been through this found out it was due to them being perimenopausal. Are you going to make a GP appointment or anything?

I'll keep the thread updated when I get to the bottom of things in case anyone has similar experiences in the future.

@ellllierose my flow is also very light, literally only there when I wipe. We're TTC at the moment so it's very frustrating. I'm a few years older than you (30), going to give it until Monday and if it's still happening then I'll call the doctors (or if it happens again). I think it's not abnormal for it to happen as long as it doesn't keep recurring.

I've only really had cramps just before it started and not since then. I am slightly concerned but more frustrated that it likely means there's no chance of us falling pregnant this month 😫
