TTC after miscarriage

Hey, I suffered a miscarriage at 5 weeks recently and I'm wondering if anyone in a similar position waited for the next period to pass before TTC? According to my Flo app I'll ovulate in a few days so not sure if we should try or if I need to have a period and then try? Emotionally I feel ready to continue to TTC but not sure if I need to wait for health reasons? Xx

Hi Op,
I'm sure it's fine to go ahead and try.
I too had a miscarriage at 5 Weeks back in June, after we had some time off TTC and ovulation tracking, I'm now 7 Weeks pregnant with hopefully a sticky!
Good luck with your journey, sending positive vibes 💫

MindyStClaire · 16/10/2019 15:10

Hi OP, sorry to hear about your mc. I was told it was fine to go ahead the first month and that I didn't have to wait for a period. It would just make it more complicated for dating purposes, so I should get a negative test for dating. Took 4 weeks to get the negative test and then got my period 3 days later! So never did try that month.

Avvii · 16/10/2019 15:15

So sorry for your loss. I had a miscarriage at a similar stage and tried again straight away - got my positive test a couple of weeks later and now 6 months pregnant with a baby boy. For me TTC (and conceiving) immediately was a hugely healing experience. All the best xxx

ceebee21 · 16/10/2019 16:50

Hi OP,

I had a MMC, with Surgical Management on 1st October.

We are just going for it and seeing what happens. Have had a negative test though, so would wait for that!

xx

AliSxo · 16/10/2019 19:02

Thanks @OohEekAah sorry to hear you went through it too, but such amazing news you're now pregnant, thanks for your advice x

@MindyStClaire I've had a negative test on Tuesday, bleeding started last week, thanks for your advice x

@Avvii I massively relate to your point that it's part of the healing process. I know everyone is different, but I want to just crack on now and try again, did you not have any period after your miscarriage, can I please ask when you tested and how you worked out how far along you were?

Thanks @ceebee21 I've had my negative test, I'm just wanting to get on with it now and hopefully get pregnant again soon xxxx

@AliSxo I didn't wait to ttc until after my first af and in the end I didn't ovulate until cd31 so on reflection, I wish I had because I put myself through a lot of unnecessary stress.

AliSxo · 16/10/2019 19:30

Thanks @whatdayisit7 did you use OPK tests to see when you ovulated? I think I'll give it a week and just crack on as we were and see what happens xxx

Avvii · 16/10/2019 19:40

@AliSxo I had no period afterwards. I used OPKs straight away and at my booking appointment the midwife took the date of my positive OPK and deducted two weeks to work out how far along I was. This pretty much matched up with what they said at the 12 week scan.

The only thing is I had a fair bit of spotting around 8 weeks, when my second period would have been due. The EPU said spotting like this can be common when you conceive straight away after a miscarriage and it was nothing to worry about in the end, but obviously was quite alarming at the time given my previous experience.

Good luck x

AliSxo · 16/10/2019 20:03

Thanks @Avvii really good advice 🥰 that must have been quite scary, how long did the spotting last? I started spotting on the Tuesday night and by Friday it was a period so any bleeding in my next pregnancy will scare me so much xx

OP posts:
Avvii · 16/10/2019 20:13

On and off for about 3 weeks! My miscarriage started with spotting too so it was quite scary but it never progressed past the spotting stage. I had a scan in the EPU at 8 weeks after a couple of days of spotting and they showed me the baby with heartbeat and reassured me, but I was so glad when it finally stopped. I did a search on mumsnet and it looks like a lot of people get spotting around 8 or 9 weeks. Actually it was mumsnet that kept me sane through the first twelve weeks as it was a pretty anxious time! A good place to be Smile

whatdayisit7 · 16/10/2019 20:33

@AliSxo yes I was using opks and temping which confirmed.

AliSxo · 17/10/2019 12:13

Thanks @Avvii @whatdayisit7 according to my app I'll ovulate around this weekend into early next week, I want to keep trying but my partner wants to wait until I have another period before we try again, I'm worried if I conceive now that I'll have some spotting again xxx

Sorry for your loss!
I've had 2 miscarriages: tried immediately after both.
The first took 6 months to get pregnant again, sadly that ended in another miscarriage. The second I got pregnant before having a period and I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant....just do whatever you feel comfortable with and good luck!! xx

AliSxo · 18/10/2019 18:00

A very BFN on pregnancy test, I'm now testing with OPK's so I can track ovulation should I get pregnant this month and it'll help with dating. If I do come on my period in a few weeks that's also fine but I think it's good for my healing of what's happened if we just keep trying xx

Blindingpeaky · 18/10/2019 18:15

Hey, in the same boat, I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks. Its still bleeding but started on Wednesday. My DH is going away for work for 3 weeks on Sunday and I'm worried that will make me miss my next ovulation window.

AliSxo · 18/10/2019 19:32

Hey @Blindingpeaky it's rubbish isn't it, so sorry to hear about you going through it, it happened to me with spotting last Wednesday and by Frisia it was a proper period and bleeding stopped Tues/Weds this week. Some people advise to wait until your next period before trying but I don't want to wait xx when does your partner go away? Xx

OP posts:
AliSxo · 18/10/2019 19:33

@Blindingpeaky sorry just reread it, when he comes back you'll be physically better and able to start trying again xxxx

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm so sorry for your loss, it's so hard isn't it. I think your right though, a few weeks wait is probably a good thing.

I hope you everything works out for you very quickly x

Naylor19 · 24/10/2019 09:11

@AliSxo just wanted to share my experience, I miscarried last month I was 12 weeks but had a mmc, baby stopped growing at 10 weeks. It was horrific, as we'd been trying for 2 years and recently started clomid hence the pregnancy. We started TTC straight away as I know I'll feel horrendous not trying, so it really is whatever's best for you. We didn't get pregnant last month but I did get my period 28 days after miscarriage with what looked like some retained tissue so we're hoping this month we'll be more lucky! I also had my bloods done and they were hcg 6 over 10 days ago so definitely should be back to normal now. I should be ovulating tomorrow and even though I'm still sad about loosing our first baby I'm excited to become pregnant again x

AliSxo · 24/10/2019 23:41

Hi @Naylor19 thanks so much for sharing your story, so sorry to hear what happened. I really hope this is your month and best of luck, it's such a rubbish thing to have to go through. I've found just carrying on trying has really helped me stay positive, according to the OPK's I ovulated today so I suppose I'm back in the TWW tomorrow, sending you lots of love 💕 xxxx

Naylor19 · 25/10/2019 06:29

@AliSxo thankyou lovely, I've had some great support but I'm completely with you about TTC again straight away as even though it's a sad experience it doesn't stop the longing I've felt for year about wanting to become a mum. That's great news, I really hope you have a successful cycle too! Sending you sticky baby dust, hopefully we'll be in a much nicer thread shortly! Xx

Mystie · 25/10/2019 09:11

I had a MMC/D&C on 8 October and have been DTD since the bleeding stopped. Have been tracking ov with opks and think I ovulated on Wednesday despite not getting a static smiley face, going to carry on DTD every other day until next week just to be sure and then settle in for the 2WW. As I haven't had a cycle yet hard to know if my cycle will be longer than usual. Really hoping it catches this month. Sending baby dust and sticky bean glue to all of you x

kitty763 · 27/06/2020 21:05

Can I ask for an update off you guys? How long did it take for a normal cycle to come back and hopefully for a bfp to come. I had a mmc in may and have been ttc since but jo success. My periods have been all over the place and of course all of my friends are pregnant with no problems , all I want is to make my husband a father. Any tips or advice would be most welcome

Naylor19 · 27/06/2020 22:00

@kitty763 hey lovely we're still ttc sadly! So no good news as of yet, however we started iui this month and I'm triggering tomorrow then having the procedure on Monday so keeping everything crossed for this cycle! 🤞🏻 hope you get your BFP soon! x
