Hello Smile

I had my implant out yesterday after being on it for just over 5 years. Plan is to TTC #1 but absolutely in no rush and not putting any pressure on ourselves.

I'm interested to hear about people's experiences after removal in terms of period/consistent cycle return? I've read all the threads on here but I'm confused that everybody is told different things by their nurse/doctor. Mine told me yesterday to expect a first period in 6 weeks. (I haven't had any periods at all in 5yrs whilst the implant was in).

Thank you all in advance!

Hi! I had my implant taken out 5 weeks ago. It was my third implant which had almost expired, so have been on that method of BC for 9 years. I had a very short period 11 days after removal, which was heavyish bleeding and the usual cramping for one day and then two more days of a very light period. 10 days after that i had a almost positive OPK. Today it is now 13 days later after that OPK, and i have no pregnancy symptoms and no impending AF symptoms. My apps say that I should have a period starting in 5 days time but as i am so fresh off the implant i have no idea if thats going to be the case. I did always have periods on the implant but they were generally 5 week cycles. I would be very interested to hear how you get on in the coming days/weeks!

CooperLooper · 06/10/2019 14:59

@blackpinkinyourarea thanks for your reply, it's really valuable to have a real life account for what to expect! I'll definitely keep you posted and likewise please do the same :)

I never thought I'd be sitting here wanting a period to arrive!! But I'm looking forward to having one so I can at least start to understand my cycles and when things are happening.

Are you going to do another test soon or just wait for AF? Which app are you using?

@CooperLooper hey - I had my implant out at the start of July after 9 years. Had my first period after 28 days then I had a 40 day cycle (yikes) before I got my next one. Now it's due on Tuesday if I've got another 28 day cycle...but who knows! Guess it takes a while to settle down. I'm using the Flo app which seems pretty user friendly so far

CooperLooper · 06/10/2019 17:28

@Tapada thank you I'll take a look at the Flo app, just need to wait for AF before I can input dates it looks like!

Fingers crossed your cycles are settling back into your usual routine :)

Implant out end of October, pregnant middle of January using opk 35 yo, first pregnancy, had been on the implant 5-6 years.

InsertFunnyUsername · 06/10/2019 17:40

I had my implant out in January, my period returned March and I found out I was pregnant in May. Good luck Smile

InsertFunnyUsername · 06/10/2019 17:41

Sorry also to add I had it back to back for 9 years and was worried because I hardly had periods whilst on it.

Tapada · 06/10/2019 18:12

@CooperLooper hopefully your cycle starts quickly 🤞🏻 I don't really know what my normal cycles are as I was on the implant for so long and the pill for a few years before that...obviously I had a few years of normal cycles before that but I wasn't exactly counting cycle days when I was a teenager 😂 so it could be anything. Just hoping for a bit of a routine so I can track it a bit more easily...

blackpinkinyourarea · 06/10/2019 18:33

@cooperlooper i downloaded a few apps but Flo is my favourite one so im going to delete the others! I took a cheapy test on friday and another one today, both BFN which i expected but couldnt help myself haha. I am going to wait until tuesday and use a first response which is the ultra sensitive test.. if neg then going to force myself to just wait for AF as i feel like im just wasting tests/money. I am not even sure i did ovulate as my opk was dark but not positive, and by the next day it went light again. It's so frustrating isnt it when you dont know what your body is up to Confused

Alarae · 06/10/2019 18:45

Had my implant out in April, with first period six weeks later. Fell pregnant on my first cycle which would have worked out to be 28 days based on ovulation on CD 14.

Tapada · 06/10/2019 20:01

@blackpinkinyourarea what OPKs have you been using if you don't mind me asking? I bought the horribly expensive digital CB last month because I wanted to see if I'd started ovulating - I got flashing smilies for 9 days but no static, so I think I either didn't ovulate or I missed it! I cba to do that much testing every month though! When's AF due for you?

CooperLooper · 06/10/2019 20:08

Thank you all! I'll have a look into Flo and OPKs online - the price of the CB ones are insane though

OP posts:
blackpinkinyourarea · 06/10/2019 20:23

@Tapada i have been using the cheap Onestep ones off Amazon - "One Step Highly Sensitive 20mIU Ovulation / Fertility Strip Tests". I was actually considering buying the Clearblue ones for my next cycle as i figured they are easier to interpret. How frustrating you never got a static though Sad.
AF should be due Friday so 5 more days.
@cooperlooper keep your eye on the price of OPKs on amazon as they go up and down quite a lot. i saw the advanced ones last week for around £22 and they are now £32!! Im kicking myself for not buying them last week

Tapada · 06/10/2019 20:30

@CooperLooper @blackpinkinyourarea the CB ones are soo expensive! I don't know how people pay for them month after month!! I'm going to wait until they're discounted again on Amazon (and look at the cheapies in the meantime 😁)

blackpinkinyourarea · 06/10/2019 20:47

@CooperLooper @Tapada are either of you logging your BBT or considering doing it? I've just bought a thermometer and will start temping on my next cycle. It's another annoying thing to do every day however it's another way of knowing that you've ovulated as it should go up quite a lot at the same time as getting a positive OPK.

Tapada · 06/10/2019 20:51

@blackpinkinyourarea no I've not done it yet - definitely let me know how you get on though! Are you doing it through an app or just taking your temp when you wake up and logging it?

CooperLooper · 06/10/2019 20:59

@blackpinkinyourarea no not yet either as we're still so early on, but I've researched it quite a bit and will likely consider it if we've not been lucky after a few months.
I think it's a great idea to try and read the signs from your own body yourself though :) it does make you realise how cool women's bodies are

Also thanks for the tip on amazon prices I'll have a look and see if or when the prided goes down!

Hi OP. I had my implant out in the October and was pregnant with my son by December. All I had was some spotting around the time of cocneption, but before hand, no hint of a period. The implant was my second one and had been in since April. Good idea regarding zero pressure. Best of luck OP Flowers

CooperLooper · 07/10/2019 08:33

Thanks @Raffles1981 Smile

ceebee21 · 07/10/2019 09:49

Hello,

I had my implant out on July 9th and found out I was pregnant exactly 4 weeks later... without a period!

Unfortunately I miscarried, but just thought I would share how quickly my cycle returned, bearing in mind I didn't have any periods (the odd spotting) whilst my implant was in

xxx

CooperLooper · 07/10/2019 13:15

Hey @ceebee21 I'm really sorry to hear that, that must have been tough.

I've read literally hundreds of MN threads over the last couple of weeks - are MCs more common if people get pregnant in their first cycle after BC? Seems to be a lot of people that unfortunately happens to.

Very best of luck to you xxx

OP posts:
ceebee21 · 07/10/2019 14:24

@CooperLooper

Thank you.

I don't think there is any medical evidence that suggests that is the case, the main reason they suggest waiting for one cycle is so that it is easier to date, as they date your pregnancy from your LMP (last period), so without one, they have to go by scan measurements etc.

There are many people who fall pregnant on their first cycle either after coming off of BC, or after a MC and have successful pregnancies.

xx

CooperLooper · 10/10/2019 12:23

Hey @blackpinkinyourarea keeping you updated as I promised! It's been 5 days since I had my implant out and I figured I'd try a couple of OPKs to get an idea of what my body is doing. I got a flashing smiley on a CB digital today which is a good sign that my long lost friend AF will likely return in around 14 days I suppose, if I'm close to ovulating again in the next day or two Smile

OP posts:
blackpinkinyourarea · 11/10/2019 09:49

@CooperLooper ooh that's all sounding very promising! Fingers crossed for you Smile
By the way i have looked on Amazon and the CB Advanced OPKs have dropped too £25, and interestingly the non advanced ones have just shot up to £32!! So im going to get stocked up for my next cycle. AF is due today but not arrived yet, hoping it comes soon as really just want to get cracking on with cycle 2.
