TTC #2 short luteal phase

Hi. We have been TTC baby number 2 for 5 months now. My cycle was a bit all over the place at first but I have noticed I ovulate late recently (positive opk days 19/20) but my cycle is only 29 days usually, and was 27 this month. Im concerned that there isnt the time after ovulation for implantation and asked my GP but they didnt seem to get what I was worried about. Google seems to point to low progesterone and wondered if anyone else had similar and had any advice? Thanks x

Hi Ladies,

Can I join in? This is my first month TTC and tbh before this, I haven't really taken any notice of the length of periods etc.

I came off the pill probably over a year and a half ago now and initially it did take a while for my periods to return to normal (At the start it took about 10 weeks to even get a period!) but my body is all settled now.

Now I didn't really know anything about the luteal phase until I started reading the forums and I don't know how long or short mine is. I do know my period lengths seem long but couldn't say anymore than 30+ days (no idea on exact days) as this is my first month tracking.

I have been taking OPKs from around the 12th day and I am currently on CD19 with no positive OPK. I do have 2 line every time, though the second is never darker than the first so they are always negative!

Its comforting to know there are some other ladies who also take a long time to ovulate. Every morning I'm waking up and hoping this is the day I get the positive but so far just disappointment!

Fredthespider · 21/11/2019 20:28

@turquoisebaby that is a bit weird! Is there a chance your last period could have actually been implantation bleeding? As far as I know it's very very rare to get a false positive pregnancy test, especially two different types so it sounds like congratulations may be in order!

whambam89 · 21/11/2019 20:57

@turquoisebaby I would say that you fell pregnant last cycle by the sounds of things!

whambam89 · 21/11/2019 21:00

@turquoisebaby if you ovulated cd23 last time and your cycle was 29 days I would probably say that day 29 was an implantation bleed which would put you about right for a 2-3 weeks on CB digital?

Sarahsarahsarah303030 · 21/11/2019 21:17

@turquoisebaby I have read a few posts about people mistaking implantation bleeding for their period. I have also heard that opk can sometimes detect pregnancy.
Sounds like it's good news for you, congratulations!! 💟 Lovely to hear that someone has managed to get a BFP with late ovulation and short LP!

I'm really hoping it was implantation bleeding now. I think I'm in shock still, I cried lots. Losing are little Alexandra at 16 weeks in August broke me. I did 3 tests in the end just to make sure. I really hope you lovely ladies get your BFP soon, It is possible!

whambam89 · 21/11/2019 22:36

@turquoisebaby I can't imagine what you've been through, I really really hope you get the news you want this time!

VenusTiger · 21/11/2019 23:01

@Sarahsarahsarah303030 that’s odd - fsh and lh levels are tested at the beginning of your cycle and ovulation and prog levels at the end (midway through luteal) - I was tested for everything too - liver, vitamin deficiencies, blood count, thyroid etc and had one vial taken at each. Are you in the UK? Maybe different drs do different things.
Good luck anyway Grin
We’re ttc second and I don’t think it’s going to happen - my DH has a high stress job and it’s clearly effecting his swimmers Sad

elevendollarbills · 21/11/2019 23:13

I don't look at the pregnancy threads nowadays, as it's a decade since I had my kids, but I saw this today and thought I'd contribute. When we were TTC DS2 I did strict temperature tests and detected a very short luteal phase (c. 7 days IIRC). We tried for a year with no luck, but I was convinced we had conceived 3 or 4 times in that period, due to temperature patterns, but that AF had arrived before implantation. The GP didn't take me very seriously, so I consulted Google and bought some progesterone cream. I conceived successfully the first cycle that I used it. I will never know if it was just coincidence - but it certainly didn't feel like it at the time.

han2291 · 22/11/2019 07:16

@turquoisebaby I'm going to jump in with the congratulations too - so excited for you! ☺️ I can imagine it was a bit of a shock, but the best kind. Keep us all updated x

han2291 · 22/11/2019 07:46

@FingersCrossedXXX welcome to the group ☺️ I'm also TTC#1 but only stopped taking the pill at the end of July. If your cycles are longer you just might ovulate later than textbook, which is still normal! Hope you get your positive OPK soon x

JuneSpoon · 30/11/2019 21:54

Hi I just found this thread.
I'm not TTC yet but will be soon so I hope it's ok if I tag along. Just to say
"turquoise* I had spotting after conceiving my second baby. I had a MC at 15 weeks with my first pregnancy which was devastating so I send you my condolences. With 2nd baby I thought it was my period and actually bought 100 OPKs on Amazon to try the next month! Turns out the spotting was probably implantation bleeding because that baby is now 2! So I wish you luck.

I also had short luteal phases and was taking all kinds of supplements. I went for fertility acupuncture and fell pregnant immediately both times. As in, Acupuncture Day2 of cycle, Day 9 of cycle, then was pregnant (though didn't know it) the next time I went back on Day 16. So I would recommend that. Two different practicioners too so the acupuncture was the common thing

turquoisebaby · 30/11/2019 22:53

@JuneSpoon, thats reassuring!

Quick update, last sunday I began bleeding heavily, it eased up on Monday and stopped. I've since been to EPU for a scan which showed a possible gestational sac and alot of fluid in uterus, I had bloods which came back as 2300, returned 2 days later rescanned and still just a sac, but also my left ovary is covered in cysts, including 2 large ones. Bloods were taken again and thankfully they increased to 3900 which is great! So I could be preganant but very early, also could be ectopic, Just a waiting game now. I'm back in on monday to see if they can find a baby. I'm surprisingly calm and collected. What will be will be.

Sarahsarahsarah303030 · 04/12/2019 13:41

@turquoisebaby sounds like it been a tough week for you. How did you get on on monday? Fingers crossed it was good news for you. X

@Sarahsarahsarah303030 Not good news unfortunately. I knew it was too good to be true. Roll on 2020.

@turquoisebaby I'm really sorry to hear that, make sure you are being well looked after and getting all the support you need ❤ xx

@turquoisebaby, I’m so sorry to hear that. I imagine you’re feeling totally shit, but I hope you’re being looked after so that things are as easy for you as possible.

My last cycle had good and bad news to it. Have been taking bit C and Agnus Castus and saw a slight Improvement to cycle (LP got up to 10 days). Added B vits as well last cycle, and coQ. LP was 12 days! (With some spotting on day 11, admittedly). We did conceive, but alas, not a sticky bean, ended as a chemical 1 day after positive test.

Tentatively feeling hopeful that cycles may manage to stay longer.... might be getting my hopes up, but im hopeful that after 18 months of LPs less than 10 days, maybe they’ll stay at 12 from now on.

Used Ovusense to temperature chart last cycle and this one (currently CD8). I’d recommend it to anyone who is having issues with OPKs. I still use OPKs, but often have more than one surge in my cycle, so temperature charting confirms whether I have actually ovulated or not. You pop the sensor in before you go to sleep and then download the data in the morning, so it’s great if you don’t have a perfect routine or might need to get up quickly in the morning (we have a 3yo DD).

turquoisebaby · 05/12/2019 20:15

@crazychemist thats great news about you LP lengthening. Really great results! Hopefully we will all her a sticky bean soon. The chemical must of really got your hopes up, not nice! I am being well looked after I go in Sat morning to have an ERPC, I also have 2 large cysts on ovaries to top it off so am now being monitored for that.

crazychemist · 06/12/2019 06:40

@turquoisebaby sorry you had to have an Erpc, they sound really tough. The chemical was a bit shit, and a lot more painful than I’d expected. I went to the school nurse for some painkillers as I really wasn’t coping with just paracetamol. To my enormous relief she had codeine as well as the usual ibuprofen - hallelujah! I did blub all over her though. Have been avoiding meeting her eyes since, which doesn’t seem the right way of repaying her kindness.

As you say, it’s still good news because it means LP isn’t too short for conception, even if it didn’t work out this time. It’s the first time we’ve had a sniff of a positive in over 18 months as I’m usually bleeding well before it would make sense to test. I hope your miscarriage is also an indication that your cycles are improving.

Fingers crossed for all of us.

han2291 · 07/12/2019 00:17

@turquoisebaby I'm sorry ❤️ sounds like you've been on such a rollercoaster of emotions over the last few weeks. Sending lots of love, be kind to yourself.

I was using OPKs again last month - started on CD14 as I got my surge on CD16/17 previous months but continued until CD19 and nothing, the line was just getting lighter. AF was due 2 days ago and still nothing.. it's been 5 months since coming off the pill and every month AF has come like clock work (CD27). I'm now on CD29 and this morning tested but got a BFN 🙁 I'm just a little confused.. my husband thinks maybe I ovulated earlier this month and missed the surge but I don't know. I have a ton of cheap Amazon pregnancy tests so I'll just keep checking each morning until AF does arrive.

Feeling a bit drained, you're told/lead to believe that your period is late and BAM you get your BFP.

Hope everyone has had a good week x

Hi everyone, I know this thread hasn't been used in a little while but I was interested to see how everyone is getting on? Hope you don't mind me jumping on, I'm TTC #2 and have an LP of around 9-10 days, taking a vit B complex this month as I have read good things without many negative side effects. Hope everyone see's their BFP soon!
