Hello,
I am booked to have a cervical smear this Thursday which will be day 24 of my cycle and as we are trying to conceive, I could potentially be pregnant. Is this safe?
Thanks!

Yes it's safe. You're best to have the test and clear results as if you are pregnant then it will be a year before you can get it done.

Yes it’s safe I had my smear early pregnancy. Mention it to the nurse beforehand

I mentioned that we were ttc when I had my smear due when we were ttc baby number two and she suggested waiting to see if I was pg that month and coming back straight after my period if not. As it happened I was pg and had my smear 8 weeks pp. She said she was unsure whether it would have any negative effect so would rather not, but I can see what other people are saying by having it done to make sure you're in optimal health. This time I made sure I had it before ttc, but it wasn't something I thought of before

I had a smear done when I was about 4 weeks pregnant (didn’t know I was at the time) and I ended up miscarrying shortly after. The nurse when giving me my smear struggled to find my cervix for ages as it had moved so high up. Neither of us twigged that this could mean I was potentially pregnant.
No idea if the smear caused the miscarriage or if it was just something that happened by chance though.
