Was this a chemical pregnancy?

Hello, I am new to TTC my first baby. I've tried for two cycles so far. Recently my period was two days late. I took one cheap test on my due date and it was negative (a cheap freedom test, taken in the evening).

My cycle is extremely regular and this is very unusual for me. I also had a few different symptoms the week before I was due on eg. severe stabbing pain in one breast and a headache so bad I went to bed early. Highly unusual.

My period arrived two days late and it was the heaviest I have ever experienced in twenty years of menstruation. Sorry for TMI but on day three I took out my tampon and it was covered in massive chunky and stringy blood clots. I was shocked by the quantity and thickness of it. The period also lasted two days longer than usual (7 days rather than 5). I've tracked my cycles for years and I've never had a 7 day bleed.

The only change in circumstance has been having unprotected sex. In light of this, my husband thinks it may have been a chemical pregnancy. Does it sound like one?

Thanks for any insights.

I've had 3 chemical pregnancies in 5 months. All of then showed a bfp and then my AF was a few days (3-6) days late. The period was pretty normal. Maybe its just your body getting used to being off contraception

No one can tell you for sure, but it Doesn’t sound like it, no. You’d have got a positive on the test if you’d been pregnant.

2 days late, even if you’re super regular, isn’t enough of a fluctuation to say it’s was a likely chemical. Equally, a heavy period could just be because you ovulated a bit late, they tend to be heavier from later ovulation.

Everyone is different but when I’ve had chemical pregnancies (I’ve had 7 and one miscarriage) I’ve tested positive on the day my period was due, and continued to test positive for at least a week afterwards and sometimes longer.

I know TTC is frustrating and you’re wanting a sign that you conceived, but honestly it doesn’t sound like it this time. It will happen, give yourselves time.

Having said all that, you know your body better than anyone, so depending how long ago it was, buy a better quality test and you may get a positive to confirm.

Test would of more than likely been positive, was you on any contraception before ?

Thanks ladies. Given the lack of positive test I guess it probably wasn't one although I only tested once. Fingers crossed for this cycle, good luck all.

For extra info, I have not been on any contraception since I had a copper IUD removed three years ago. Just used condoms up until we started TTC. My cycle has been consistent and regular for a long time, which is why I was alarmed by the heaviness and length of the period. Maybe just a coincidence that I had a weird period after starting the TTC journey.
