3 weeks late, BFNs but a weird doctor’s appointment! HELP!

Hi,

So I’m 3 weeks late, I’m never late so instantly thought I’m pregnant! We weren’t actively trying but weren’t using contraception and was planning to start at the end of the year. I’ve always had regular periods so was shocked when all hpts were negative. I then went crazy and was testing daily and had a BFP (big fat positive) on Thursday! Tested with a clear blue on Friday and they were all BFNs. My head is all over the place!

I went to the doctor today and had a negative test there. She was brilliant and said that some ladies’ HCG levels can be low so she booked me in to do my bloods tomorrow. She said it maybe that there was a pregnancy but it didn’t stick 😢

She then asked to feel my tummy and that’s where things changed! She was asking lots of questions and was feeling my tummy for ages. She then said ‘you’re either one pregnant or you have a cyst’.

She’s booked me in for a scan as well as the bloods but I’m a bit worried and confused! Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

I’m sure pregnancy tests are more likely to be wrong when they’re false then when they’re positive. Feel for you OP, all sounds very confusing, my head would be in a spin! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you

Rebecca612 · 16/09/2019 17:03

Thank you Nc! It’s so frustrating as I’ve heard you can have false negatives but hoping the blood test will shed some light. If not then here’s hoping the scan will show something.
I’ll be gutted if this is all just a late AF!

When is your scan?

Rebecca612 · 16/09/2019 17:25

No idea Pondering Panda. Only went to the doctors this morning so she said I should be receiving an appointment letter in the next 2 weeks. That seems a lifetime at the moment, I’m so impatient!

I'm surprised they didn't give you an appointment with the early pregnancy unit! I had one for the very next day. Saying that, you can have varying levels of hcg throughout the early pregnancy so that may be why you're having different answers? Have you had any bleeding at all?

Alice8688 · 16/09/2019 19:18

Hello! I have had this. 5 months before I conceived DS. I had lots of negative and very faint positive tests. Then I had a positive digi and thought that was conclusive. Turns out I had a uterine cyst and was booked in for a D&E. Which reset me back to normal.

I hope you get the answers you want op. And here to answer any questions! Xx

Rebecca612 · 16/09/2019 19:31

Thank you ladies! No, no bleeding or spotting at all. Feel nausea, headaches, twinges in the lower abdomen and want to eat everything in sight - weirdly want KFC for breakfast? Haha! Lots of clear/creamy discharge and sore boobs but they just feel how they would usually before AF is due to visit.
Obviously I’d love to be pregnant but at this stage just knowing what is going on with my body would put my mind at rest then if we need to start trying again next month we can.

I had exactly this and it was a cyst. V regular cycles and then one month nothing....waited until day 40 before getting an internal scan that showed 3 large cysts (6cms each). I took norethisterone to induce a period and the cysts had gone a month later. I found out yesterday that I am pregnant (following cycle).
I would assume it is a cyst stopping your period.

Rebecca612 · 17/09/2019 08:08

Thanks Robs20! I’ll hold tight for a scan appointment and will keep you all updated!

So an update today - had my blood test this morning and the doctor just rang to say my HCG levels are elevated and she thinks I’m around 3 weeks pregnant! She wants me to have bloods taken again on Friday to check whether they hormone is elevating as they should be and go check with 100% certainty that I am. She wants me to still go for the scan though so I’ll pop another update after.

I’d convinced myself it was a cyst and to hear results so quickly I’m in a bit of a whirlwind!

Hi there,
Not to worry you at all but I had quite similar symptoms with an ectopic pregnancy 5 years back. I had a previous successful pregnancy before and after but I did have a ruptured tube with the ectopic so please do go for the scan and have your mind put at rest. All the best xxxx

Rebecca612 · 17/09/2019 17:02

Hi @Alice8688Alice8688 - thank you, will do!

Hi @Shortyshortcake1 sorry to hear that. Oh don't worry, I need all the info I can get from you lovely ladies - I'll keep an eye on my symptoms and might pop the doctor a call tomorrow so talk through any worries about an ectopic pregnancy. Thanks for sharing your story :) I'll let you know how Friday goes and how the scan goes (when I get the appointment!) x

How exciting!!!Star

WeeDinah · 24/10/2019 07:18

@Rebecca612 hi I was just wondering how you scan was? I'm going through the exact same 12/14 days late, waiting on blood results and iv also been referred for a ultrasound! Its driving me crazy but you've gave me hope x

Rebecca612 · 24/10/2019 09:40

Hi @WeeDinah

So it's been a bit of a saga but ended with good news!

I had a pelvic/tummy scan and they found a large cyst and no pregnancy in September. They said I could be too early to detect a pregnancy but they doubted I was pregnant. So my GP called me the next day to say that my blood test results show that I'm around 3/4 weeks pregnant and I need another blood test to see if there's an increase of HCG. I did the blood test and was told, you're 100% pregnant!

So my GP referred me to a specialist gyno at the hospital who I saw last week (quite a wait)! He said that the cyst was quite large and that he still needed further proof I was pregnant. 2 days later, I was booked in for an internal scan and clear as day, we saw a little healthy baby, measuring at 8 weeks and 1 day with a strong heartbeat.

They're now preparing a specialised pregnancy plan for me but I'm now over 9 weeks and my first midwife appointment is next Tuesday!

I read so many threads online and everyone kept saying, if you have that over whelming feeling that you're pregnant then listen to your body! Let us know how you get on!

@Rebecca612 thank you for replying, I'm kinda lost as to when I had AF last but it was around the 10th of September. I got a new contract phone and wiped my old phone to give it to my friends son without thinking to check my last dates on the calander. Anyhow me and my partner worked it back it I'd say it was between the 8th and 11th at the latest which would make me about 15 days overdue if I went by the 11th! My breasts are sore, I've got sore heads, I'm eating loads, I'm having cramps and generally just feeling crappy! My cycle is usually 28 days for 3 days maybe give or take a day or 2 but never in my life has it been this late and I'm 38 years old! I have 2 DS age 16 and 18 and my periods always went straight back to normal even after giving birth so it's really frustrating me! I went to the doctors yesterday and the urine was negative but she she sent my bloods away and I get them back on Monday and she also said she was booking me in for an ultrasound that my appointment would come through in the post! Iv had 9 miscarriages in total over the years and my periods always went straight back to normal then also! Was all your test negative in he 3 weeks your period was running late? I'm starting to think I might have ovulated later or something! Iv not been stressed or anything recently so I cant think what would cause it to do this unless I'm going through early menopause! Just need to hope and pray my story ends like yours. I'm back with my 1st love, weve been back together for 4 years and even though we both have 2 children ( he has a daughter 18 and a son 20) it would just be the icing on the cake to experience it together.

Rebecca612 · 24/10/2019 11:38

@WeeDinah the blood test will tell you either way 100%. I was nearly 3 weeks late and had 14 negative urine tests. Had a urine test at the doctors which was negative, had a blood test the same day that said I was pregnant!

My scan appointment was pretty quick but that was because of the cyst, but the bloods will tell you 100% even if you're super early! I know the wait til Monday feels like forever but you'll know for definite then. xx
