Starting period after nexaplanon removal

Good morning!

Abit of back story for you to start.

I started on the implant in 2011.
I had it for three years, didn't bleed until the final month. Had a replacement done.

Due to a consultant wondering why I have painful intercourse, they took me off the implant after my second insert, around 2017. I bled really bad for around 2 months before being put on the combined pill.
So all in all, during implant years I barely bled! The year I was on the pill, I bled like clockwork. 28 day cycle, on for 4 days, just like when I was younger before the implant.

2018 - August, I went back on to the implant as nothing pain wise had changed and I felt more secure.

Fast forward to this year! Myself and the now husband are wanting to try. So after the honeymoon we booked to get the implant removed.
It has now been out for two weeks and I haven't bled! We got told to wait for the first cycle before trying.

I know it is different for different people but, wondering if anyone has had similar and how long people waited for it to come through?

(Both ovulation and pregnancy tests have been negative)

I am hoping I will just be back at cycle within 28 days, lol.

Any help would be good!! TIA x

Hi @bclaire123,

We're going to move your thread over to our Conception topic if that's okay with you - hopefully there'll be some Mumsnetters on hand to offer you some advice.

Thankyou! I thought I had done already but, clearly the app didn't register it! Much appreciated x

Giving this another bump for you.

Hi, I had the implant (implanon then nexplanon) for 5 years. Period came 4 weeks after removal and have been fairly regular ever since.

Not sure if that means that my hormones settled quickly, though I doubt it. Apparently it can take a year for hormones to settle.

Lauren3118 · 05/09/2019 19:49

I had my implant removed on the 7th August and AF started 26th August so just under 3 weeks - I was told it takes 7 days for the hormone to leave your system and your period should return within 3-6 and if no AF after 6 weeks to take a preg test as she told me I could catch straight away!
I had no periods for 4 years with the implant (2 separate ones)

Hope your cycle settles back to normal soon x

Thankyou you two, I am into my third week on Thursday and keep getting perineum twinches and other random symptoms so, hoping it could be soon! I never really had 'pains' as when I did have them it was more pins and needles with the odd twinge in the tummy or down there so, we shall see! Hopefully I should see something soon! Xx

Hi OP, I got my first period pretty much exactly a month after having the nexplanon implant removed. Cycles were then quite long (36-38 ish days) but gradually shortened. I conceived on the 8th cycle after having it removed (currently 34w). Good luck!

Lauren3118 · 13/09/2019 19:30

@bclaire123
How you getting on sweet? X

bclaire123 · 13/09/2019 19:40

@lauren

Still nothing 🤦🏻‍♀️

I keep getting shooting pains in perineum area and in my stomach. Plus additional symptoms but, nothing to say I am pregnant or even close to being on!

A bit lost on what to do so, just waiting xx

I had nexplanon removed when we got engaged as like you I had been on it for a while and I wanted things to have chance to get back to normal. My periods didn't return to normal for over a year! Probably just me being weird but I went months without a period at times during that year. I was convinced we would have trouble conceiving but we didn't. I'm sure yours will come back soon. I just wanted to offer some reassurance from my own experience as I was really worried about it at the time.

bclaire123 · 13/09/2019 21:06

Thankyou sweet, I am trying not to worry too much as I know that won't help but, you always go in with an idea and an expectation don't you.
When I came off before going on the pill, the doctor's made comments on us having a mmc which now we are waiting is just playing with me.
Thankyou for the message! It is good to hear others stories xx

Good morning everyone! Original poster here!

After a grueling 3 week and 2 day wait as I prepared for a fancy dress night out in Leeds, Aunt flow arrived!

Thankyou to everyone who messaged and give their experiences, it has been helpful to know that it may not all be as straightforward as you always hope or assume after getting the contraception removed.

Now to move forward with the husband and hope for the positive results over the next year.
