HSG/Hycosy - worth TTC the week before?

A Hycosy is the new HSG: solution is injected through the cervix into the uterus and tubes and this is all observed with an ultrasound scan.

I finally have an appointment, and it's going to be about 4 days after I ovulate. Is there any point TTC this month? Would any newly-fertilised egg - even if it had started implanting - be washed away?

no, you should not ttc this month just in case im afraid!

yes, but the timing hasn't worked for her either for a few months - too much summer travelling for ttc! We're both trying to chill out and forget about it. Which you know is easier said than done!

Impatience - I don't know how different hycosy is to the traditional HSG, but I've just had mine, and I think the main concern about being in the early stages of pregnancy with the HSG was the x-rays being harmful. That's what my consultant said anyway.

I had to sign a form to say that I had abstained since my last period, and that I was not pregnant. Luckily I haven't ovulated yet this cycle, so I didn't feel like a wasted month - however, I wonder if it is ok to ttc so close after the dye has been in my tubes??

i conceived straight after my HSG and mc'd again, dont know if its related but cant have helped tbh.

I wonder if I shouldn't just write this cycle off then?

tbh, if i could go back in time i wouldnt have ttc'd that month. sorry.

Lissie - Don't be sorry, I'm grateful of the opinion. To be honest, I am due to ovulate tomorrow or Monday and I am quite tender still, so not sure I would feel up for it anyway. How are you?

supposed to be on a ttc break but am due to ov on sun/mon/tues too so am really really wavering now. keep thinking, what if this month is the sticky eggs month. daft i know.

I had HSG booked this Wed and was sent home because I'd had sex after my period without protection.

they use radiation so if you were pg they would advise a termination.

have to call when I get period and book another one.

Will keep my legs crossed next month

It's not daft at all. It must be really hard to take a break from trying. Just go with your instincts, I say.

think i might. its just that every month we dont ttc feels like a waste iykwim. (which i know you do). did they give you your results there and then?

I have to see my consultant on the 21st to discuss the x-rays, but the radiographer said they looked normal, and I "spilled" - which what they are looking for essentially. So sounds positive. I've started a new thread as I feel like I have hi-jacked Impatience's thread

Oh Hijack away, it's interesting to hear your stories. The hycosy uses ultrasound rather than xray, so that's not a problem. And the solution is just sugar-based which doesn't sound so potentially poluting to my ignorant ears! They say that it's safe to use at any time of the month. But I've been phoning the clinic and no-one seems particularly clued-up. I've had people saying it's safe and others saying if in doubt, don't, but I think they're just following my lead. What I'm worried about is flushing any new ball of cells out. Of course it would be extremely irritating if the one month I conceive it gets washed out. But far worse than that would be to have it washed up into my tubes. When I firmly suggested to the person who was supposed to know that I didn't want to risk an ectopic but wondered whether I was being naive, she was silent then said stroppily, well if you feel it's a bad idea don't risk it. You know, it would just be nice to get an answer!

I think I probably will just play it safe and not inseminate this month. If I ever get an answer I will update!

Haha. It's funny you mention about clueless medical professionals... I asked if it was safe to ttc over the weekend straight after the hsg, both members of staff, I asked, were not sure. I asked if it was possible to talk to someone that did know (imagine the cheek of me!) - I was told "you could ring your GP on Monday". I said "thanks" I didn't want to point out that by Monday it probably wouldn't make a blind bit of difference as I'd have ovulated and missed my chance anyway.

Silly me for thinking that people in gynaecology would be able to help. In hindsight I should have asked the Dr who performed the HSG, but I wasn't really thinking too clearly with a tube in my uterus

it just makes me so fecking angry. these people get paid to specialise in this area, you'd think they'd be able to give us a straight answer. reminds me of the doc who suggested that i take the MAP is i have any ttc "accidents" after my last mc. 5 mins after she'd talked about my ep.
