OPKs - have I missed the positive or am I not ovulating?

Hi everyone, this is my first month of using OPKs - I'm not sure whether I've missed the "peak", or if it just didn't happen! I'm on CD17, my apps estimated that I should have ovulated on CD14/15 (28 day cycle). The line only started getting stronger last night, so I took 3 tests today - at 8:30am, 2pm and 8:30pm. The 2pm test was the strongest, but still negative! It now seems to be going back down. Did I just miss it, or is it likely that my levels aren't getting high enough to ovulate?

We DTD the last 4 days in a row as that's when I thought it should happen, so will again tonight and tomorrow, but I hope that won't affect the sperm count, and I don't even know if ovulation will even happen?! Also, does this mean I have a short luteal phase?! Help! Thanks in advance!

Sorry I have no advice but can I ask what app you are using to help you keep track?

@AdalbertWaffling I came across your post because I'm trying to figure out the same with my strips 🙈 but I've just read that you can get a fainter line just before you get a definite positive. Hope this helps and I hope it's true 😆 xx

It's called PreMom, they want you to use their ovulation tests, but if you log it under 'other' then it will log any type of test!

@sar1988 I'm hoping that's what's happened here! I just thought three tests in one day would have caught it, but apparently not! 🙈 fingers crossed for you too!

Thanks @AdalbertWaffling

It looks day 17 at 2pm is really dark and probably ovulation happening, I never had one as dark as that.

AdalbertWaffling · 30/08/2019 21:52

@spaghettiforhair I was surprised it only said it was 0.6 tbh (1.0 is equal to the test line). I did take a few pictures of that test as thought it must be wrong, but all of them said around 0.6! To be fair, irl it was slightly lighter than test line, I just chose the darkest looking pic in hope 😂 but that's good to know you never got one that dark!

Hey, I use the same app. Last month the number on mine said 0.77 and thats the highest I got and definitely ovulated so I wouldn't rely on the numbers too much just the lines! X

Glitterandunicorns · 03/09/2019 15:56

Hi OP. I use those OPKs too. Sometimes I've had months where the line gets darker then fades then later gets darker and eventually get a positive. I understand that sometimes the hormones don't quite reach the amount needed to trigger ovulation, so your body effectively has another go at it.

In saying that, it's hard to say based on that picture, but your 2pm test looks like it might almost be positive to me. When I've had positive OPKs, they've been very definitely darker than the control and it's been obvious.

Sorry, that's probably not much help, best of luck!

I use Femometer and have had success with it detecting a positive opk, maybe try that app instead? Here’s mine as an example.
