Is it possible to have af and be pregnant?

In june my contraception failed and I took the morning after pill but I think I had already ovulated so may not have been as effective but although it was late, af did show that month. I had another period since as well but I am urinating more than often, am tired, keep getting headaches and my lower stomach is looking a bit bigger than usual. I know I'm probably being paranoid and crazy but is there a chance? You hear stories of people bleeding or having "af" in pregnancy, including stories of family members but all the science points to it not being possible. Any insight or help to weather this is possible or not would be great

It is possible to have periods, or at least something that looks very much like a period, while pregnant. It's highly highly unlikely you're pregnant if you've taken the MAP though. Have you done a test?

Young21 · 29/08/2019 14:44

Have you taken a test at all? Also have your periods been usual at all?

Emae26 · 29/08/2019 14:46

I did a test when my period was a day late in june but it was a cheepie and came back negative. I haven't really noticed much change apart from my june period being late but I haven't really been paying much attention after I got the negative on the test and af showing...

I really suggest talking to your doctor about it :) they may be able to tell you if you are pregnant or help you with your unusual symptoms
Maybe take a different test type too? I've had trouble with the cheap ones recently 😩

I bought some FR tests before my period showed the first time so I might do one of them. The other thing is I think my nipples look bigger and that my boobs are a bit bigger but my fiancé doesn't think there is any chance and I know that my boobs could be bigger if I've put on weight and that's what's causing my lower stomach to be bigger but I don't think I have put on weight and some people have said I look thinner generally... it's all so confusing

@Young21 I also never know whether to trust the cheep tests or not but given my period was late and it said negative I trusted it because they all say they are accurate after af...

Weight's got nothing to do with it at this stage - get a test!

Hi sorry to jump on but I got positive tests this week 4 clear blue, yesterday I started to bleed with period pain, today I've passed clots with bleeding when I wipe but the bleed isn't heavy enough to overfill pads does anyone have any idea what's going on? Midwife won't do anything until I'm 6 weeks which will be next week I have a scan booked at epu can't help but get upset as I misscarried Jan last year

I'd see your GP if I was you, your symptoms could be something else other than pregnancy if HPT is negative.

Graphista · 29/08/2019 19:11

You could be pregnant my mum was almost 5 months gone with me before she knew! She was still bleeding regular, bit lighter than usual but she was going through a stressful time at work and put it down to that, otherwise no symptoms at all, I've seen photos taken when she'd have been about 4.5 months gone and she was very slim then and didn't look at all pregnant and one photo she's wearing a swimsuit!

However there could be something else going on, the symptoms you describe could also point to diabetes or any number of other conditions so even if negative hpt probably worth a trip to Drs

I had a period when I was pregnant with my second child and so didn't realize I was pregnant till ten weeks when second period was overdue.

ParkheadParadise · 29/08/2019 19:56

I had periods when pregnant with dd2. I went to the doctors with a suspected kidney infection to be told I pregnant.
Turns out I was 5mths.

Emae26 · 29/08/2019 20:40

Thank you everyone for your help. I think I'm gonna do a test in the morning just to make sure and may arrange a doctors appointment if negative test and symptoms continues

Would a cheap test be enough to tell me or should I use a FR?

If you’ve had a period/s since you took the emergency contraception and negative tests since, I don’t know how much good a GP appointment will be.

A lot of your symptoms sound psychosomatic to be honest, which is understandable, but really if you’re getting negative tests and periods the chances of you being pregnant is tiny.

switcharoo · 30/08/2019 09:22

Did you test this morning OP?

Spingtrolls · 30/08/2019 09:56

I still had periods with my boys. I was around 4/5 months when I found out.

BabyWant · 30/08/2019 10:46

Hi ladies hope I can join?!,
Before my period I had all the symptoms pregnant women say, sore boobs, feeling sickly when eating, head aches, back pain, tired, wiped and was brown so i was thinking im defiantly pregnant, I wiped again and was brown this was in the morning, and this never happened to me before, but maybe the third or fourth time I went bathroom and I started my period so I started my period and thought no way I'm pregnant now,it's my 6th day today and no blood or nothing until not long ago I wiped and was a tiny bit of brown when wiped but assumed it's just finishing off my period, but seeing as you have had periods with your babies I'm wondering am I the same? Because when I got pregnant first time about a year ago I had a period got test in gp and they said I'm pregnant but by my next period I lost but if I didn't get don't with gp and just went with my clear blue which said 2 to 3 weeks I would have thought was a false test, what do ye reckon?

BabyWant · 30/08/2019 10:47

If I didn't get test done with my gp*
