Hello,

It's probably a simple question. Can anyone please help confirming me what the usual course of Norethisterone 5mg to regulate irregular period. I haven't had a period since last 3 months ago and it's been like that for couple of years. I have found many references saying to take it 3 times a day for 10 days. But I would like to be more sure if that's correct. If anyone else also had taken this tablet and found it worked, please let me know what the prescribed course was.

Many thanks in advance
Andrina

Hi - I've been taking it 3 times a day for nearly 12 months for various reasons so I imagine that's the dose - I have done 10mg 3 times a day.

It completely stopped my bleeding for about 6 months but then stopped working.

I cant remember the strength but I took 3 tablets a day, I took them all at once each day & was on them for nearly two years before my hysterectomy.

You couldnt be pregnant could you? You can still get pregnant while taking it.

Sounds about right. I have them to induce a withdrawal bleed when I haven't had a period for a few months (I have PCOS). I didn't think it regulates them though, just either stops you from bleeding until you stop taking them if you use them to delay a period or induces a withdrawal bleed if you have irregular cycles.

@Greyhound22:
Thanks... 10mg 3 times a day for almost 12 months? That sounds like a huge dose!!! Though it might be because there were other issues as well as you have mentioned. This would be a overdose for irregular period issues, wouldn't it?

@Nat6999:
Thanks but no, I am not pregnant and I am not going to be soon either. I haven't had any sort of physical intercourse yet. I have a boyfriend though! :-)

@DuploRelatedInjury:
So, you mean Norethisterone 5mg does not fix irregular period but simply induce a withdrawal bleeding?? That doesn't sound useful for the issue.

Yes my issues are complicated as I'm also on blood thinners and have fibroids. If I bleed I end up having to have a blood transfusion.

I've always known them as just being used to stop periods when people get married/ho on holiday to be honest - I can get what people are saying about it being used to start a bleed when coming off it. What are you wanting to use it for OP if you want to say? It's not a nice drug to be on long term. I'm can hopefully come off it soon and I can't wait.
