Does second line only show colour if HCG is picked up?

I had a faint positive yesterday on a FRER at around 12DPO (long cycles around 41 days so AF not due until sometime over next few days). Today no second line at all when I tested but it wasn't my first morning urine. I drink lots of water so I'm hoping my wee was just too diluted to pick up the low level?

Am I right in thinking a second line would only ever show up coloured (pink) even if faint, if the hormone was picked up? Thank you for any advice. Driving myself mad here. I've no patience and just want to know for sure! I'm sure many of you understand! This line showed up after about 4 or 5 mins I think? X

The same thing has happened to me, I had faint positive yesterday and this morning barely a squinter. I'm also hoping the same that my wee was too diluted as I was up all night and went . Fingers crossed for you, sorry I'm not much help but the frer are quite sensitive so you might not have a lot of hcg yet and only 12dpo so you've got a good chance yet!

Sorry ladies I made it confusing! Both photos are the same test, I posted two photos as line was hard to capture on camera. The Clear Blue test today had no line at all. I'm going to do another FRER tomorrow morning. My app says AF is due tomorrow/over next few days c

No line this morning on my FRER that I can see. I don't understand. What does this mean? Why would I have a faint pink line after 4/5 mins the day before yesterday and now no line with my FMU today? I have no cramps or bleeding. Today is day my AF is due looking at my Clue app. X

I know exactly how you feel as the same thing is happening to me, I think in my case I might have had a chemical. Hope this hasn't happened to you, unfortunately I think you will just have to wait it out until af arrives, I've stopped taking tests now and only got really faint or negative and it's driving me mad. Your not out yet fingers crossed for you x

@Olivebranch26 I'm sorry you feel it may have been a CP for you. What makes you think that? Have you had cramps and bleeding? I had my bloods taken yesterday morning, and will do the same tomorrow morning and then Fridays afternoon the gp will phone to tell me if there's a hcg level there and if it rose. I probably shouldn't, and should wait, but I think I'll ring this morning to see if there was even a level at all yesterday to see if I actually am pregnant. But the whole point is whether it is increasing so I probably should wait til tomorrow. Sending hugs x

Hi all. First blood test has come back as 1. So, not pregnant. Confused. Maybe Ive had a CP without bleeding? I feel quite disappointed and silly for slowly believing I was pregnant when I guess I am not. Why the tests then? Are FRER ever mistakes with the pink faint lines? Receptionist said to still go tomorrow for second blood test to check levels but it's pretty unlikely isn't it 😔 x

Oh no I'm sorry you didn't get good results. I've been getting very faint positives for 4 days now so hcg doesn't seem to be rising for me. I'm not sure what could have happened to you it's so strange I definitely see a line on the test. It's not unheard of to get an evap line on frer even a pinkish one so maybe that happen? Or you could have had a chemical and I think that would make your period a few days later than it should be.

Me too on frers, there's definitely a faulty batch out there!!

Can someone please tell me if they can see a line in this? I think I'm going crazy 🤣
