Perimenopause or pregnant?

Hi,
Am 45 and a bit unsure what to do. Am now at least 17 days late for period but can't actually remember when I had my last period. Definateiy had one May half term, can't remember June. Think I was due about 24th of July not sure if I had worked this out or just was having pms type symptoms. Used a condom last time we had sex which was a while ago now but after may half term. ( Struggling to keep DD in her own room but that's another story.) Not sure whether to do a test. Had a few days spotting around time I thought I might be due but came to nothing. Have sore boobs but often do. Had a weird cycle few months back where was late then bled for weeks had to get hormones to get me back in sync. What do people reckon? Took 10 years to conceive DD so I think a second miraculous pregnancy very unlikely but there's that niggle. Or do I just wait a bit longer? Confused

Personally I'd test just to rule it out.

I'm younger but convinced I'm perimenopausal so have actually started tracking my cycles and symptoms. Perhaps if the test is negative you can do something like that.

I had similar and, like Fatted, started tracking my cycle on an app from then on. For me it was a peri menopausal blip but you'll either have to take a test or wait it out to find out. Flowers

Thanks,
I probably will do a test next week when OH not about so as not to freak him out and just to rule it out and will start tracking when my period finally shows up

I had a friend who had had unprotected sex with her husband for 25 years of marriage and didn't get pregnant and then at 45 thought she was going through early menopause and discovered that in fact she was actually pregnant. They had a healthy baby boy 20 plus years ago.

Nobody can predict this for you. Do a test. There are plenty of ones you can do discreetly now.

This happened to me last year. I was 43 nearly 44. Missed my first ever period (apart from when i'd been pregnant). Convinced it was pregnancy, took about 4 tests (all negative), saw 2 different doctors (negative tests). I am sterilised! So then convinced myself it must be ectopic (despite both doctors saying it could be the start of the menopause). Had blood test - normal hormone levels. Next period came at the usual time.

I think I was in denial because I still felt so young in my head! Have since missed 2 more periods, no other symptoms, just completely missed periods then got next one the month after. I've accepted its the perimenopause and now cannot wait for the buggers to stop altogether.
There's no way to know until you take a test. Quite easy to do surreptitiously- buy one, bin all the packaging and slip the stick in your handbag.

Thanks all. Will let you know the outcome when I know 🙂

As expected not pregnant but a teeny bit of me disappointed as in my head had got used to the idea even though it would have been terrifying X
