When to count cycle day 1?

Have started what I think is af, but it's light brown, so would I count today as day 1 or wait until it's more red?

My IVF clinic rules are you count the day 1 as the day you wake up with bright red bleeding

If you start red bleeding say in the afternoon then you count the following day as day 1 - brown spotting doesn't count x
