New pregnancy or hgc from miscarriage?

Sophiewilson123 · 06/08/2019 10:55

I had a miscarriage on the 23rd June at around 5 weeks pregnant. I am now getting faint postive tests. Is it likely to be a new pregnancy or just its in my system still from my miscarriage?

It took absolutely ages for me to stop getting positives on tests after my miscarriage.

EvelineUK · 06/08/2019 11:35

If I remember rightly it usually takes 4-6 weeks before HCG returns to normal (Below 5IU), so at 8 weeks it would be unusual, unless you are using a highly sensitive test like FRER?

Fingers crossed it's good news for you X

Sophiewilson123 · 06/08/2019 11:50

I'm just using the cheap tests off eBay, the tests are very faint but there's definitely a pink line there

I had a MC the week before you. My HPTs are still positive. Unless you definitely had negatives before this, it's impossible to say whether it's a new pregnancy or not from just one test. Serial tests should get darker though so you could try again in a few days and see if it's darker?

Michellebops · 07/08/2019 13:26

I was 9 weeks before I got a negative.

Contact your gp to arrange a blood test which will be repeated to check levels.

Sorry for your loss

Sophiewilson123 · 07/08/2019 14:21

I did another cheap test today which looked slightly darker, but then repeated with a clear blue digital which cane back not pregnant. So I'm guessing it must be from the miscarriage

@Sophiewilson123 sorry for your loss. If you were 5 weeks I'd imagine it wouldn't be from that. I was nearly 5 weeks when I had an early miscarriage in June and had negative tests less than a week later. Everyone is different and will depend on the level of hormone you had and how quickly that decreases. If you didn't check after I'd suggest you go to the dr as they should be able to do blood tests. Digital aren't as sensitive so if it's a new pregnancy it might just be too early for a digital 🤞🏻

Ah rite ok, well I'm going to give it a few more days and if I'm still getting postives/ They get any darker then il make a appointment with my gp. I didn't think it would stay in my system that long so just a waiting game I guess!

Sorry you had a MC Thanksthey're foul.

I was still getting faint positive HPT's 6 weeks after mine. 6 weeks after the bleeding ended that is.

Sophiewilson123 · 07/08/2019 16:24

Oh god seems that some people get negatives very soon and others have postives for a long time!

EvelineUK · 07/08/2019 16:37

Yep, no hard and fast rules on it, just general observations, also varies with length of pregnancy...

Abi58 · 07/08/2019 16:39

@EvelineUK I think that's a good point it depends how far along you were as the further along the more hcg that needs to get out of your system

Sexnotgender · 07/08/2019 16:42

Have you had a negative test before you got these faint positives?

I had an early miscarriage last year and fell pregnant immediately afterwards. He’s currently an ear splitting 6 month old menace!

I got negative tests after about a week and then obviously got a new positive.

CmdrCressidaDuck · 07/08/2019 16:46

It's impossible to say at this stage unless you tested down to 0 and/or have had a period in between. You can only wait and see really.

boosterrooster · 07/08/2019 17:07

@Sophiewilson123 I know, there's no one size fits all with this unfortunately Sadabsolute head f**king experience

Sophiewilson123 · 07/08/2019 17:20

No period so far, but seems as I was only about 5 weeks I thought it would come out of my system fairly soon. I didn't do a test to make sure I got the negative. But my test was slightly darker but still faint today which was the reason I got the clear blue today.

Could you go to the doctors or Epu and have bloods done to see if the Hcg rises?x

Sophiewilson123 · 07/08/2019 17:50

Ye i think I'm going to have to make an appointment with my go but it's a absolute nightmare to try get a appointment 🙈

Can you speak to an on call gp or ask for referral for phlebotomy.?

I know all doctors surgeries are different so depends what their procedure is.

Fingers crossed it's a new pregnancy

Hoppinggreen · 07/08/2019 20:01

I’m sorry for your loss
I had a mmc with surgical removal at 12 weeks. After 8 weeks my periods hadn’t returned so I did a test and it was positive , went to my GP who confirmed it. I had actually got pg 1 week after my D&C and was pg for a year!
Psychologically it was hard and some people thought I wasnt pg but was having some sort of breakdown but the pregnancy was fine and Dd was healthy.
I hope you get the result you want

Sophiewilson123 · 12/08/2019 08:00

So on the 8th August I had two negative tests so it must of been from the miscarriage. But now today iv done another test as period still hasn't come and iv got another faint postive..so confusing! And I can't get into my doctors till the 21st August Confused

Michellebops · 12/08/2019 15:45

Sophiewilson123 · 12/08/2019 16:46
