I know what you mean - best way is to introduce yourself and gradually you will catch up with who's who
I didn't follow the sperm meets egg plan to the letter, but I followed a lot of the most important principles of it. This is what I did, and it worked twice for me:
Track your ovulation for a month or two and get to know your cycle and when your fertile window is.
Have sex every couple of days during your fertile window - usually that's about 5 days before you ovulate and 2 days afterwards. If you want to maximise your chances (probably a good idea with your cycles being longer) then you can start having sex a bit earlier in your cycle and continue until a bit later. But trying during that fertile window is key.
Apps like Flo can be good for tracking your cycle and symptoms, assuming you don't mind entering your info into them!
Both you and your partner should generally look after your health in terms of diet, drinking, smoking etc, as this increases sperm and egg quality. There is a lot more info about that online but it's mostly common sense really.
You can begin taking a prenatal multivitamin now, or at minimum some folic acid and vitamin D.
Try not to cave into taking early tests. Wait until at least 10 days past ovulation, ideally until your period is actually due. Getting overly anxious about it all can disrupt your cycle and make symptoms more confusing. I say this having taken tests as early as 6 dpo myself 🤦 It's just a waste of money and mental energy!
