Ok after saying that I was absolutely having no more kids (8 and a half years ago after my 3rd)
And being single for as long as that too, I had finally met a lovely guy and we decided to try for another baby 🤦‍♂️
Only problem being that I'm 39 and he is 35, in the navy and smokes or vapes. That and I was on the mini pill for 8 years........
Although I don't smoke.
Am I really too old?!
Just after I had come off the pill, I had a chemical pregnancy...... really don't want it to happen again.
Apparently I have passed my fertile days now for this month, we have been DTD over that time....
Now for the wait x

I had a baby at 41. I don't know your medical history, op.

mommybear1 · 03/08/2019 14:28

I had my first baby at 39 and I'm expecting my second at 41.

CountFosco · 03/08/2019 14:29

I had DD2 at 39 and DS at 41 so you are not necessarily too old. But get married and get your OH to stop smoking before TTC.

Just been reading too much crap on the internet saying how ur chances of becoming pregnant become a lot lower in ur early 30's etc.
Yeah he definitely needs to stop smoking but it's highly unlikely at the mo as he is going thru a rough divorce (his ex is making it far from easy)

If you want a baby go for it! I don’t think you’re too old. I’m 36 and 6 weeks and I have 2 older ones from a previous relationship. Just try to be as healthy as you can now and ask your partner not to smoke in front of you and try to encourage him to stop/cut down but if he can’t dont like the pressure as it’s difficult for people to stop. All being well I will be 36yrs 9mth when I have a baby again and I am aware there’s more risk than when in early 20s but I am I better financial position and have a wonderful partner rather than awful ex so I think age can be a positive thing too. Don’t be put off as I know women in their 40s who have given birth to healthy babies

It’s certainly not impossible at 39, as many ladies here have proven, so go for it!
However, the ‘crap’ you’ve been reading isn’t just crap... it’s true that for most women fertility declines rapidly after the age of 36. That doesn’t mean every 39 year old won’t get pregnant and every 35 year old will, but it’s something to be aware of if it doesn’t happen for you. It’s worth seeking advice sooner rather than later as you approach 40 especially, the general advice is give it 6 months of trying.
But I’ll keep my fingers crossed it just happens for you easily Smile

Just been reading too much crap on the internet saying how ur chances of becoming pregnant become a lot lower in ur early 30's etc

A lot of this is based on studies from HUNDREDS of years ago that have now been debunked. A friend of mine is a fertility Dr - she told me to ignore anything I read on the internet regarding fertility because it's almost always based on inaccurate outdated advice and debunked "research".
Fertility does decline, but not at the rate scare stories you read on the internet make out. Plenty of women are having healthy babies in their 40s, and have done for years.

I had my first at 45 after being told by GP that I couldn’t have a baby - big surprise.

If you’re sure you want to try, take your folic acid, cut any alcohol down to a minimum, eat healthily & have lots of sex Smile

Broodyaf · 03/08/2019 20:09

No you're definitely not too old OP, nor do u need to get married as someone foolishly suggested... but I would defo recommend stopping smoking.

🤞 for you & ur DP xx

Had mine at 41 and 43, conceived within three-four months.
My sister had hers at 45 (with PCOS!). Friend had hers at 40, another at 46, two more at 41.... all conceived naturally. And that’s just people I know!
