Thrush when ttc!

Sorry if this is tmi guys.
Long story short, I suffered terrible thrush during my first pregnancy and it never really left. About 7 months ago I was referred to the gynaecologist who prescribed me 6 months of antibiotics and bingo! I had no thrush during this period. Me and my husband have wanted to starting trying for our second but it was no advisable when on the tablets so we've waited. I have suspected pcos and I'm almost 29 so I don't want to delay this anymore as it may not be a straight line to getting pregnant anyway. Finished the antibiotics and within a couple of weeks it's back :( last month we were ok during the fertile window but I can feel it coming back now and my fertile window is coming up again. I do have an app with my go but not for a couple of weeks. Just wondered if anyone else has suffered with this whilst ttc and what to do and how to manage it? I will grit and bare the discomfort if I have to, but obviously I don't want to! I've read online it should effect my chances of conceiving, it's just obviously not very nice :(

You are fine to get pregnant on fluconazole but shouldn’t continue it once you have a positive pregnancy test. Sadly the success rate of the 6 month course for long term clearance isn’t that great.

Have you been treating your partner too? I've been suffering with recurrent thrush recently and the nurse mentioned about treating my husband ! I never even thought about that, men don't get the symptoms. You're probably already doing this but I would advise using the cream morning and night too. You can use the pessarys safely when ttc, and even once pregnant.
Hope you feel better soon.

I got thrush for the first time when we started TTC. It turned out I’d caught it from DH who had undiagnosed diabetes. He treated it and got rid of it easily. I, on the other hand, had it rumbling on for months. It’s so hard to shift! I have a tendency to suffer from fungal infections (eg I get athletes foot as well). I tried most of the treatments out there - nothing really worked. In the end I had to change my diet - basically very little sugar and much reduced caffeine and that plus the cream shifted it.

Thank you for replying everyone! I'm sorry to hear you've suffered but it's finally nice to speak to people who understand!
Yes my husband has had the oral capsule and also uses the cream despite not having any symptoms at all. I'm really sorry to hear about your husband diabetes, I've been tested in dec and they tested a water sample the other week and thank goodness the results were ok!
Can I ask did anyone have success conceptions when ttc with thrush? It's so hard to get rid of isn't it! I honestly thought it was all behind me, but obviously not :(

I've just read online that warm coconut oil can help relieve symptoms and fight fungal infections. Has anyone tried this? I can't seem to find any info on whether this would effect conceiving or not ! I'm so annoyed with the doctors as I feel they just dismiss thrush and don't realise how awful it is!

Yeah, the diabetes is pretty rubbish - definitely worse than thrush I guess!

I think we gave up on ttc while the thrush was really raging (it’s a long time ago now) but started again the following month although I was still a bit itchy and uncomfortable. It took a few months to get pregnant though, and I can’t remember quite how I was when I finally conceived.

Don’t know anything about coconut oil I’m afraid.

I would just try to cut down a bit on starchy carbs and definitely cut out the sugar. If you do have PCOS it might help you conceive anyway.

Good luck!

Aww thanks for sharing! I think that's the thing, if you're prone to it it'll always come back! I know it might sound ott but the thought of it is giving me anxiety and really effecting my confidence! :( I just feel like, urgh, another obstacle!

Wouldn’t recommend coconut oil. Just wash with water and avoid soap.
