HI all
We've been trying for number 2 for just over a year. Had one pregnancy but only lasted until 5 weeks, sadly.

Doctor has just suggested HSG (Fallopian tube flush!) as an option.
Apparently it can increase chances of conception for three months afterwards.

My question is about the date it is done. The info pack says day 10-14 of your cycle (you call them to book on CD1) but the doctor also said it didn't interfere with trying that month as it's done before you can be pregnant.

But it WOULD interfere with trying, as you can't have sex before your appointment. i.e. if done on day 14, then that's the month out!

Lots of things online say it just has to be done in the first half of your cycle, and lots say day 5-10. This makes more sense to me as we could still have at least a few days of trying after the test.

Does anyone know why they say 10-14?

Thanks! :)
Baby dust to all xx

There should be no risk of pregnancy when the HSG is performed so that's why the tend to aim to do it before ovulation. You also can't be bleeding as that can interfere.

It completely depends on each woman's cycle. If your period lasts 4 days and you generally ovulate on day 14, then see if you can book it for CD5 - 12 or so.

If you know your cycle well enough, hopefully they can fit you in at a time that suits so you don't lose the month.

Thank you!

So it's just to fit the timing in after bleeding but before ovulation?

(Cycle day 10 avoiding bleeding?)

Thanks

Yes, it's all about timing to avoid your period. I had mine on CD19 so knew we couldn't try that month. I just wanted it done as soon as possible, & if the next available date coincided with my period/spotting, I would have taken a pill to stop my bleed so that month would have been out anyway.

So basically, the HSG can be done at any point except when you're bleeding, but the best time is between your period finishing & a couple of days before ov, so you can still try that cycle.

The purpose of the test is to make sure the Fallopian tubes aren't blocked. It can be a bit painful, so take some painkillers before.

OK thanks very much for your help.
I'll try to book it in for as soon as my period is due to finish! :)
