Ask away, whether it's OPK's, LH, Temping (BBT), Surges, lines, DPO's, ask away, I have worked for the big boys of fertility and some of the smaller ones....

@Loula82

Those cheaper tests are more sensitive so they can still pick up after the surge has gone...

@lunamoon1
I'm no expert on the advanced, but it could be you were more diluted later in the day and those tests look for a proper positive before you get the flashing smiley...

@ReeRi @EvelineUK thank you for your help!

Does anyone know how accurate BBT is for confirming ovulation? I only ask because this month I couldn’t buy ovulation strips anywhere and internet ordered ones weren’t going to arrive on time. The app has predicted I would have ovulated yesterday and my temp went up after being really low two days before and has stayed up since

EvelineUK · 01/10/2019 10:59

@Sweetpea12

Yes the temp rise occurs after ovulation, hence it is useful for pinpointing ovulation as long as you are regular. Unfortunately it is confirmatory rather than something you can use to initiate the BD/ SMEP.

@EvelineUK thank you for replying that’s very useful information Smile next month I’ll be more prepared with ovulation tests if unsuccessful this month

EvelineUK · 01/10/2019 11:56

Good luck, it's not a bad idea to back up one with the other as they aren't necessarily going to pick up every ovulation individually depending on BBT technique and LH levels...

Hi @EvelineUK I've read quite a few messages on this thread now and think the help you give everyone is brilliant! On one post a little while ago you mentioned "ninja sperms being little girls" I'm just curious if there is a theory around trying to conceive either a boy or girl and if it can impact the chances of TTC?

EvelineUK · 01/10/2019 17:52

@MrsN2121
OK, so this is a no guarantee response....

TTC is all about hitting the egg with sperm as it makes it's way down the fallopian tube, so you need to send some the day or two before ovulation and then the day of/ day after at the latest, ovulation.
As I understand it, the sperm that either waits for the egg or doesn't have the swimming skill to get up the tube is how girls are made, the sperm that swims up and hits it 'head on' is how boys are made. Hence in the US you can pay to have your sperm spun in a centrifuge and the swimmy stuff is added separately to increase the chance of making boys. Lots of interesting info out there if you want to research more, google choosing the sex of my baby..

@clolo
Hmm, that's a strange one. I guess my first thought is whether one of your 'ovulations' is a false alarm and would need to see what you consider a 'positive opk'. Which kit are you using, any pictures?

EvelineUK · 08/10/2019 09:35

I actually have a question for the group, baring in mind how much you pay for supplements, lubricants, pregnancy tests, apps etc. What is an acceptable cost per month for OPK's, as there seems to be a big difference in prices and what people use. Since OPK's are pretty much the only scientific way of knowing when ovulation is due and therefore pre-empting your SME plan, what is a acceptable number for you all?

I pay £5 for 30 online and am happy with that. Some months I pay more for clear blue advance digital but am prepared to pay more for the convenience of testing once a day with fmu and the results being clear and not open to my interpretation. Hope that helps.

Sweetpea12 · 09/10/2019 18:20

I buy the cheap ones so boxes of five strips for £1 and I find them ok. I could do with buying in bulk as this month I wasn’t prepared lol

CooperLooper · 09/10/2019 21:52

@EvelineUK hey Eveline. Im paying for the CB OPKs at the moment because we're still quite early on so I don't mind the expense nor have I spent a lot so far - I guess they were £19 most recently in Boots if I remember rightly?

Ovulation question if it's okay (and within the realms of your experiences). Is there an average time for ovulation to happen after implant removal?

EvelineUK · 10/10/2019 10:07

Thanks all..

@cooperlooper
There are a bunch of variables based on the type of implant (hormones) your age and fertility history. As an average I think 3 to 6 months, but please don't quote me, that's one for your doctor

Hi @EvelineUK just wondering if you can help me do you know if it's possible to only ever ovulate from the same ovary each cycle?
The reason I'm asking is I've recently had a laparoscopy in which an endometrioma was treated on my right ovary, both my tubes were clear and my left ovary was clear. I have been ttc for 2 years and already have 1 child.
Thanks xx

MummyJasmin · 04/11/2019 14:32

Hi OP

It's the first time used OPK tests - I got cheapo ones off Amazon.

Can you comment on this please. Also disregard November, meant to write October!

I appreciate you doing this. Thank you x

@EvelineUK so happy to have found this thread! I had a MMC early October and AF arrived on 27/10 lasting 4 days. I've started using opks and from what I can tell got a peak reading on my first test. This would only have been CD8 which I'm worried is too early as my normal cycles are around 28 days. Also should be noted that I am 43 and have read that consistent positives could be a sign of menopause, is this true? We are following EMSP from today as the app has said I am ovulating based on opk peak so fingers crossed!

Hey! Thank you in advance for answering my questions...

So my cycles are bang on 28 days every month, I had a scan last month and saw an egg sitting, quite big on cd14(I had a scan to check everything was ok) it was sitting on the left side so does that mean it hadn't been released to sit in the uterus yet and I actually ovulated maybe later that day or cd15? I didnt get to ask these questions, the woman just told me to go home and get to work lol, bearing in mind we had sex the 2 days leading up to this, then that day and the day after and obviously didnt get pregnant.

Normally I get ovulation pain and EWCM when I'm ovulating, this month I had like jelly cervical mucus not a lot either, on Thursday cd13 and that is IT. But I've been wet if you know what I mean, also, ive been having pain since Friday and its predominately from the right side especially on Saturday my god I was having cramps on my right side and back ache...but then Sunday I had similar ovulation pain on the left side too? Just curious as to what's going on?

One more question! Lol...if I'm still getting the ache does that mean I havent ovulated yet? I'm now cd17, but the ache has gone down tremendously, Saturday cd15 it was at its worst...

Normally I get the ovulation ache on the side I'm ovulating for 2 days or so and 3 days of EWCM.

Thank you! Sorry for the long post

EvelineUK · 04/11/2019 17:56

@HE88 Bit of a specialist question for me, but as I understand it, if you have a monthly cycle and the other ovary is fine you should still ovulate, although I must admit I'm not sure how it works, wether it's turn and turn about or more random. I would very much recommend monthly LH testing to at least see if your body is trying to ovulate and pinpoint those two most fertile days to improve your chances of catching the egg as and when it's released.

@MummyJasmin
Looks like a surge to me too.... The short follicular phase would make me think this was what we would call a high rather than a peak, but definitely get doing the BD today and if possible tomorrow too just in case the peak is tomorrow. I cal it SMEP, but deffo a great technique for improving your chances, fingers crossed. x
