We are currently in the stages of TTC only one cycle in currently in the TWW but I'm not expecting it to happen first time.

I'm just wondering how long it took people to conceive? And did you use anything like clear blue ovulation kits? Or any other OPK's? X

I used clear blue ovulation tests and conceived cycle 2

MrsB899 · 20/07/2019 20:08

I also took pregnacare conception and my husband took the men's ones

You will get a vast range of different answers on here. It’s mostly just luck/genetics/compatibility/fertility - there are all sorts of factors.

I got pregnant first time both times and used ovulation kits. However a friend who’s the same age also used these and it took her 2-3 years to get pregnant.

FearnRJ · 20/07/2019 20:18

@MrsB899 quite a few people I know have used these and conceived.

Thinking about trying them as currently using the cheap ones and sometimes difficult to read and the clear blue one gives you more days.

@Oilyskinproblems I know everyone is different I'm just being nosey really x

It took me a year to fall pregnant with my first baby. We didn't use any ovulations tests but I used an app to try and track my fertility days and became so obsessed that we gave up and that was when it actually happened! Good luck xx

3 months for #1, we weren’t particularly trying to time things, we just ditched the contraception and carried on as normal.

Ttc#2 now. Not going so well! DD1 has had some health issues that make it difficult to get alone time, and DH is now sometimes away for a week or more at a time. Ttc for a year, starting using OPKs last cycle in the hope of timing things better.

PixieLumos · 20/07/2019 21:11

Straight away - which I wasn’t expecting as I knew others for who it took a while! We were a bit shocked as we didn’t really think it would happen that quick - we used nothing (it was our honeymoon and I was drinking like a fish never mind taking extra vits, not the best start really) it was more ‘not preventing’ rather than actively trying. As others have said it’s mainly chance and luck, which I don’t take for granted at all. We were very lucky.

Conceived 2nd cycle first pregnancy but it ended in miscarriage.

I’ve just had my BFP after 12 months of trying. We used the cheapie ovulation tests off Amazon for the last few months and found them really useful.

I’d also recommend using an app such as Ovia to track cycles and symptoms.

LauraPalmersBodybag · 20/07/2019 21:54

4 months for #1 - I paid attention to my cycles and tracked using an app

6 months for #2 - this time used clearblue ovulation tests

Good luck op

Didn’t happen with DP. We tried for two years. We had investigations with nothing found. We broke up.
I got pregnant on my second cycle with ExDP while using condoms.

10 years
2 husbands
And IVF!

BadBadBeans · 20/07/2019 22:06

First cycle for DS1. First cycle for a miscarriage. Second cycle after the miscarriage for DS2. Didn't use anything the first two times but the third time I used cheap ovulation strips as my cycle was out of whack and I had no idea when I would ovulate. Missed ovulation the first cycle (I was expecting it to happen earlier and gave up testing too early), caught ovulation on the second cycle and conceived.

The women in my family do seem to conceive quickly though so I don't think it was anything particular I was doing (other than the obvious!). Best of luck x

BadBadBeans · 20/07/2019 22:08

Also used Ovia to track my cycles!

Trickyteens · 20/07/2019 22:49

It took my mother 2 years, apparently, and her sister 7. They both had several children.

Professor Winston, if he is still fashionable, said that one of the reasons for lower conception rates amongst some was that those people weren't having enough sex, and that fertile periods are not an exact science.

IveNotSlept · 20/07/2019 23:31

Just have sex every other day after your period if you can. We did this and got pregnant first time. My second child we weren’t trying, I actually got pregnant the day my period was due. So trying to target 1 or 2 days doesn’t always work. I think it can get a bit obsessive too looking at some of the posts when women tape 30 ovulation tests together stating times and dates on each. We are planning to have another child next year, we’ll be taking the relaxed approach again.

Trickyteens · 21/07/2019 00:07

Also sperm can live for 5 days, so any day from day 9 for average 28 day cycle women.

Pipandmum · 21/07/2019 00:11

Had both kids after 40. First one took about four months. Just had alot of sex (conceived a couple weeks after getting married). Second also took about three or four months, again not doing anything but having frequent sex.

Doyouavocado · 21/07/2019 07:34

Misscarried in December and been trying since then. Used the cheap ovulation kits from Amazon and tracking cycles of Flo app but nothing for 6 months.
Tested the clear blue 2 day window ovulation stick 2 weeks ago and got my positive yesterday! Turns out the flo app was telling me I was ovulating 2 days earlier than I should have been each month and the cheap sticks are not great.

Good luck!! X

First DC first month of trying.

Second pregnancy 2nd month, but ended in miscarriage at 10 weeks.

Third pregnancy 6 months after miscarriage, but I found my cycle was very messed up for ages after my miscarriage, periods every 2-3 weeks. So it was more cycles of trying than 6, but I never really knew if the cycle would be normal or a short one.

I do know lots of others who have taken a long time to conceive. It's very hard to know why sometimes it happens quickly and others it doesn't, I guess it's just timing and some luck.

All cycles I got pregnant we had sex early in the month and not at all on or after ovulation prediction day ( according to apps). I did try clear blue predictor for 2 months, but didn't use the month I got pregnant this time.

Hollyxrx · 21/07/2019 12:08

Been ttc for 1 year and 5 months..still no luck! Use clear blue ovulation tests and the cheapies off amazon.

userabcname · 21/07/2019 12:13

DC1 - 1st cycle, didn't track anything (other than knowing when period was due).
DC2 - 8 months. Did end up using OPKs for a few months, wasn't hugely necessary as we dtd consistently anyway but satisfied my need to POAS!
