TTC - Is the Dr right?

Hi,

Me and my husband have decided we want to start a family, hoorah!

I came off the cerelle pill after 10 years about 7 weeks ago and haven't had any real bleed at all as yet. I have been using ovulation tests and the lines do seem to show a pattern - i.e. darker lines on the 12th of June and darker lines on the 12th of July. My doctor has said that without a period it's unlikely I have ovulated yet - but I'm not sure I am buying that! So my questions are, is it possible I am ovulating without having had a period, and also, how much darker do you think these OPK tests need to be before they are positive?

Those OPK's are only positive when the line is darker or as dark as (I think) the test line

It looks like you're body is gearing up to ovulate but then isn't. It's quite common for it to take a while to settle down after hormonal contraception.

Opks don't confirm ovulation, just that you're body has a higher level of the hormone, you'll usually ovulate between 12-36 hours after a positive opk. Yours haven't been quite positive yet though.

Fingers crossed you're not waiting long, keep dtd regularly 🤞

I agree with the doctor. You would have a period only if you had ovulated. No ovulation = no period.
The opk lines need to be as dark or darker to be positive. As another pp said a positive opk test doesn't confirm ovulation, they detect the LH surge that you are about to ovulate

I'm not being smart here but the doctor told you this & you don't want to believe them so off to Mumsnet for alternative advice 🤷🏻‍♀️

Other posters are right, both about the lines needing to be darker & the LH surge. It can take a while for your cycle to settle down but I'm sure it will soon so best of luck to you!

No ovulation no period is absolutely not true!!! You can get anovulatory cycles. When I came off the pill I only started ovulating on my third cycle

tessiegirl · 16/07/2019 09:57

But an anovulatory cycle is a period without having ovulated...

Abi58 · 16/07/2019 10:35

You can have an lh surge and not ovulate and usually ovulation triggers a period usually 14 days afterwards so I'd tend to agree with the dr but I'm no expert
🤞🏻 for you

They all look negative to me.
You should try and mentally prepare yourself for this to take a while. Your body has been used to years of artificial hormones so needs time to adjust and find it own rhythm. I hope you don't have to wait too long for your BFP but be careful about becoming obsessed with these OPKs and tracking your cycle. It can eat you up! I've seen it happen to a close friend when she consumed by it all. It's easier said than done but try to take the focus off TTC and let your body normalise itself.
Just to note though another friend of mine fell pregnant as soon as she came off the pill so everyone is different. She did struggle more with the changes that come with being a mum because she didn't think it would happen so quickly!

Thanks everyone! I thought i'd ovulated last month had (sorry for tmi) the egg like mucus and pretty dark lines, then dark brown 'spotting' (heavy enough for a pad) that I thought could be my period, but dr doesn't seem to think so...
