Starting to try

Just wanted to say hello to everyone and introduce myself as I will probably need to pick all your brains over the coming months!

Me and DP have decided we're ready to try for a baby together. I have 2DC from a previous marriage but this will be my DPs first. I'm literally fresh off rigevidon (took last one on Wednesday - not even had withdrawal bleed yet....I'm just so excited about trying but don't want to tell anyone IRL yet!!!) and today I ordered a bunch of IC ovulation sticks.

I've never used these before so was wondering when to start....I have 50 coming on Monday lol do I start straight after my withdrawal bleed? How quickly was everyone able to start to tracking ovulation? Are there any other ways to track? Do they get done morning and night or just once a day?

I know it will take a while for my body to settle into a routine again after almost 3 and a half years on the pill.

I'm wishing for sticky baby dust for everyone...in my previous marriage I had 1 missed miscarriage and 3 miscarriages so I know the emotional rollercoaster of conception well.

Hi.

Sounds like we are in a similar position! I have 2 children (12 and 9) from a previous and TTC #3 with hubby (his first).

Massive gap and can’t remember much from 9 years ago.

I came off Cerazette on Tuesday, still waiting for the withdrawal bleed.

I’m really impatient and have been doing OPKs and BDing just in case!

prettyretro · 13/07/2019 18:41

Ah that's so exciting that we're in the same situation! Haha!

I know what I'm like and as soon as I get these sticks through I'll end up using them straight away too!

We've been BDing too as soon as I stopped pill before withdrawal but more for the excitement that we're actually going to be trying....we also had a couple child free days so we're making the most of it! Lol

Did you fall pregnant quite quick with your previous children?

The age gap will be fab the kids will love being able to help out!

Best of luck to you!

@prettyretro it's recommended that you wait 1-2 cycles after coming off the pill before doing opks as you may have a longer cycle than usual/ not ovulate. Dtd every other day is best.

VicT1984 · 13/07/2019 19:10

I can’t remember as such - but think it was the first month.

I did come off the pill in December, had the breakthrough bleed, think I ovulated on CD6 then had real period in January but lost my job so went back on the pill. All I know it was a 21 day cycle. Just hope I’ve not confused my body too much by being on off on off, hoping it all comes back pretty quickly, better still get pregnant before a real period.

I was on various contraception for 10 years and word of warning, for me it was THE worst period ever!

Best of luck on your TTC journey, hopefully happens quick for both of us! Smile

prettyretro · 13/07/2019 19:21

Thanks @mexicantaco that's really good advice, appreciate it! X

@VicT1984 oh no!!! I went on the pill for contraception but also cause my periods were horrifically heavy...I'm not looking forward to that again 🙈

Fingers crossed it will work out for us all!! Keep me posted on your journey would love to follow it!

@prettyretro withdrawal bleed has started for me this afternoon. Counting this as CD1. Feeling sad yet happy!

When I came off the pill last time i ovulated 6 days after the withdrawal bleed started, so CD6. Going to be keeping a close eye on my body for the next few days to see if the same happens.

prettyretro · 14/07/2019 20:25

@VicT1984

I also thought I'd started withdrawal bleed today, when I wiped was faint pink, I've put a pad on but that's had nothing on it and barely anything when wiping really anymore. My opks should arrive tomorrow so will start from then and keep fingers crossed. My last 2 withdrawal bleeds have been really heavy, I'm a keen swimmer and the last 2 are the only ones since I've started the pill (over 3 years ago) that I didn't want to go in the pool so will see what happens. Tomorrow might be horrendous like before. I'm also counting at CD1 and see from here what happens.

Me and DP are both teachers in Scotland so on our first couple weeks of holidays and in fairness we've been eating terribly (fry ups in the morning!) and drank a bit more than normal having a few child free days and we were in a lovey hotel (when we decided not to continue with the pill!) I dare say that might have something to do with the difference in this bleed. Now I've started with this bleed though is my cue to get focussed and make sure my body is as ready and as healthy as can be.

Are you taking any vitamins/ supplements? I know it will happen when it's meant to but I just want to help things along where I can! X

VicT1984 · 15/07/2019 12:33

@prettyretro I’m just taking folic acid and B vitamins at the moment, I was taking evening primrose oil but ran out yesterday. I’ve heard Agnus Castus/vitex is good for helping with the cycle. I’ve bought some apple cider vinegar as well yesterday but got the wrong one as it’s supposed to be “The Mother” and I got the clear stuff - supposed to have good all round health benefits.

My withdrawal is medium flow, painful and almost black. Really not pleasant. I can’t wait for it to be over!

I intend to do some running and Pilates, try lose my love handles and tone up really as I tore my stomach muscle about 4 years ago pole dancing as they didn’t go back to how they should’ve done after my youngest who was 6 at the time of the muscle tear! The pain was worse than giving birth! Smile

prettyretro · 15/07/2019 16:43

@VicT1984 eeek! Torn stomach muscles must have been horrible! Pole dancing!!! Wow! I'm impressed I have a friend that does it and I'm in awe at some of positions she can get herself in! 😂😂

I'm really thrown off by my withdrawal...especially after the last 2 I had before coming off the pill, it's more a brownish discharge and hardly anything on pad (I'm counting this as CD1 since it's at least left a couple dots on pad) and only a little when wiping as well. The last 2 I was paranoid about leaking they were so heavy.

My opks came today as well....naturally and because I'm a nightmare I took one already 😂😂😂 surprisingly enough it was negative!

I swim and not long started yoga so I'm trying to focus on that a bit more I can make between 2-3 classes a week and will try at home as well.

So glad we're at roughly the same stage it's good to have someone to go through this with!

OP posts:
VicT1984 · 15/07/2019 21:10

@prettyretro yes very painful, 999 called, gas and air and 2 weeks off work! Was only on my 3rd lesson and dared not go back. So embarrassing!

I feel so nauseous at the moment with my withdrawal bleed. I remember this a few months ago though, passes after a week.

I took my first OPK on Thursday which had a line but negative and it got fainter and fainter as the days went on so I’ll start testing when I’ve finished on this bleed. Last time I knew I was ovulating because of the boob pain and lower abdo pains but it was only CD6 when I started getting the symptoms. Bodies are confusing!

I find it comforting someone is at the same stage as me, especially as no one I know knows we are trying!

prettyretro · 15/07/2019 23:10

@VicT1984 omg that sounds crazy!!! Hopefully no lasting damage and you're ok now?

My opk was very very faint today but I'll keep trying with them and see how I get on. Going to try and take at the same time every day so that was about 4:15 so will see how I get on!

Still literally nothing of a withdrawal bleed that it's freaking me out a bit now. This would be day 5 off my pill and usually I would have started day 4 and today would have been heavy but nothing! Bodies are defo confusing!

We've not told anyone else that we're trying either, I'm literally bursting with excitement when i talk about it to my DP or on here lol

Had a wee giggle at my DP today when I told him my delivery was just cheap pregnancy tests and opks....he nodded and said "oh right, no probs" then tonight he was talking a lot about the darkness of lines and days in a cycle with the opks....I looked at him and asked how the heck he know all that...his response...."I googled it when you were putting the kids in bed!" 😂😂 wee soul!

VicT1984 · 16/07/2019 08:30

@prettyretro yes all better now but I will make sure after this one to do some soft core muscle exercises.

From what I’ve read some people don’t get much of a withdrawal bleed and skip straight to AF or get pregnant.

My hubby, normally has the mindset of its women’s things, eiw not to be discussed sort of mentality. This week he has been talking about period cycles, the birth cycle and waters breaking etc! Gotta love em!

Sunflower2019 · 16/07/2019 09:50

Hey,

I’m 32, have a dd from a previous relationship. My new dp has no children so it’s all new to him. Stopped the pill around a month ago, have had a couple of bleeds but no actually af.
Believe I just ovulated as doing opks and had positive lines for 24 hours, although have yet to take an actual hpt (bar onestep) but they are rubbish!!!
So time will tell Grin
Had some symptoms but could be through coming off the pill! Woke up feeling extremely tired and some waves of nausea but heard you can get that with ovulation.

How’s everyone else doing!!!
Exciting but scary xx

prettyretro · 16/07/2019 17:13

@VicT1984 Haha! Funny how they're all of a sudden interested isn't it! 😂😂 glad you've recovered well after your accident, will you need to do any exercises or physio when you are pregnant to help with them stretching again?

Looks like withdrawal bleed is happening properly now although still lighter than I'm used to but just glad my body is moving along in the right way!

We spent a day out enjoying the sunshine here, it hasn't been great here but the past couple of days we've enjoyed! I'm meeting up with some friends tomorrow and it's going to take everything in my power not to say anything 😂😂 there's nothing even to tell yet but still! Haha!

@Sunflower2019 lovey to hear your story! We're similar ages as well I'm 32 next week and starting for number 3 for me and number 1 for my DP! It's so exciting isn't it! I'm only just going through my withdrawal bleed just now then will track with opks as best I can I know it will take a while for my cycle to return to normal! I know I was early starting this thread about starting to try but I had to tell someone and was hoping to find people in the same position! So glad I posted now!

Sounds like you're well on your way, have everything crossed for you that it happens quickly and smoothly!

OP posts:
VicT1984 · 16/07/2019 18:43

@prettyretro I’m not sure about the exercises, I don’t think so though.

My day took an interesting turn today. I practically passed out in the playground this morning! No idea why. I feel so nauseous as well. I feel like poop!

@Sunflower2019 welcome to our little thread! I’m 34, TTC #3 for me and #1 for hubby. Good luck with the BDing, hopefully the S meets the E x

prettyretro · 17/07/2019 15:17

Omg @VicT1984

Are you ok?! How are you feeling today?

OP posts:
VicT1984 · 17/07/2019 17:31

@prettyretro yes all better today, felt a bit funky yesterday for the day but today no problem.

The nausea is still getting to me and withdrawal is slowing down now.

How are you doing?

prettyretro · 17/07/2019 22:25

@VicT1984 so glad you're feeling better!

I'm good thanks, withdrawal still ongoing and I'm sorry I know this is total tmi for a stranger but today was almost like slimy blood...sorry I know that's totally gross but I have no one else to talk to about it! Hope you don't mind! Today I would say has been the heaviest but again (and I know I'm like a broken record going on!) just compared to my last 2 this has been a dream lol

Decided not to use opks (although still counting from CD1) until this bleed is over and hopefully spot something quick!

We had a child free night tonight my mum took them so we went to visit my cousin and now sitting with a bottle of wine and a 4 in a bed marathon....yes I'm just that sad! 😂😂😂

Do you think your nausea is a sign of anything? Have you told your other DC that your trying for another yet? We haven't said anything yet and not sure o would until I was starting to show but again not sure how to play it if and when it happens. Just feels a bit different this time with my DP and other children x

OP posts:
VicT1984 · 18/07/2019 14:17

My withdrawal has tapered off which is good, just there when I wipe.

I have always found the withdrawal bleed old blood, stringy and slimy and full of clots. You should bask in the fact it’s not all gory and floods! My last first period last year when I came off originally was like a blood bath, it was vile.

I feel different this time. Last time I felt ovulation coming as ovulated CD6, swollen boobs, cramps, ewcm etc and this time it’s, well, nothing, other than the nausea which is the pill withdrawal side effects.

My OPKs are so faint and definitely negative so will start testing in a few days I think.

We haven’t told the kids but My daughter who is 11 has been rifling through my wardrobe as I heard her the other day after I did an OPK. Funny as the box the OPKs are in are wedged, so she will have to move the box with the sex toys and naughty underwear in first BlushGrin. She’s quite a negative nelly and sure she will throw a teenage strop but I think she will come round to it. The boy who’s 9 will be well happy about it. X
