Positive IC, negative FRER?

A bit of a long one, sorry! So on Friday I took a FRER (ordered off Amazon) and it was an all be it faint positive. Sunday with FMU I took another and that was negative, I thought it had been a chemical pregnancy. Today I woke up feeling fairly queasy, and with sore boobs, although I've been feeling like this for a few days - hence the testing. So I took an IC with FMU that I had because I didn't want to waste another FRER, this one came up positive straight away as soon as the dye started moving across the screen.
After this I was feeling much more positive and despite telling myself I wouldn't test again until tomorrow morning, I couldn't resist and took a FRER about half an hour ago which to my massive disappointment came up negative again.
So after that long somewhat rambling story, my questions are:

  1. the FRER test from this evening and 2 days ago were both done after drinking a lot of water, can more dilute urine give a negative test despite being positive?
  2. All the FRER tests I've used have been ordered off Amazon, has anyone has any issues with faulty tests from there? Or even tests that are fake and falsely advertised as first response?
  3. Can anyone else see lines on my 2 what I thought were negative FRER's? - the ones dated 07/09 & 09/09.

And just to double check that my IC is definitely positive? Not imagining things am I?

If you've managed to get this far, thanks for reading! Smile

Hey!
My first response test looked exactly like ur first one when I tested last weds...... since then I've had negative IC and first response tests and I'm not sure why.
Still have nausea and sore boobs tho x

RedFox695 · 09/07/2019 22:45

@CrazyFooLady yeah I'm so confused by it all, and it's a bit of an emotional rollercoaster too because I'm not sure whether to be happy or sad!
Hopefully you get your BFP!

More dilute urine does indeed increase the chances of a false negative. Ideally you should be using your first morning urine or holding your urine for about 4 hours with minimal fluid intake

CrazyFooLady · 09/07/2019 23:15

@RedFox695 I hope u get ur BFP too...... it is really confusing ur definitely right there... gone to bed feeling as sick as a dog tonight x

elliollie · 09/07/2019 23:18

There's a faint positive on the first FRER

elliollie · 09/07/2019 23:20

Sorry, posted too soon. Meant to say, can't see anything on the other two. Wait a few days and test again

RedFox695 · 09/07/2019 23:53

@Bambamber so maybe that was the cause of the negatives? The second FRER I did I must have drank 2 whole bottles of water before bed and really struggled to fall asleep because my bladder was so full! I didn't realise or even think about the dilution of the urine tbh.
@CrazyFooLady get some rest and hopefully you'll feel better tomorrow.
@elliollie yeah me too, on another "line eyes" post of mine after that 1st frer test quite a few people replied and said they saw it too. Hopefully it's just a case of the 2 following frer tests have just come up negative because I've diluted my urine too much before taking them.
I'm going to try and hold off taking a test again until Friday and take a clear blue digital. Or see if AF arrives before then (which it is due too) either way ill have my answer I suppose!

Same situation here! Faint line on IC last night.

11dpo today, faint line on IC. Negative FRER.

Any update for you?

Livingmagicallyagain · 10/07/2019 06:58

AF also due Friday!

250515xx · 10/07/2019 07:20

Sorry to jump on your thread. I can definitely see a line on the first one. How sensitive are the FRER? First cycle ever trying here (bit clueless about it all really!) and I’ve done two, one yesterday and today and both definitely negative. My friend reckons they are no better than a normal one though. My dates are the same as yours @Livingmagicallyagain

RedFox695 · 10/07/2019 09:37

@Livingmagicallyagain, fingers crossed for you that it's a genuine positive! I haven't taken any more tests today but I just have a feeling that it's not going to work out for me this month.
@250515xx I can too, DH couldn't but I'm sure it was there. I'm a bit clueless to it all too, it's only our first cycle TTC so I suppose we'd be very lucky to conceive 1st go and I certainly wasnt expecting to! I've read that they detect a lower amount of HCG in the urine to standard tests so are more sensitive, but how much exactly I don't know.

@RedFox695 well I have everything crossed for you. Not feeling hopeful myself, due on tomorrow and have got the usual cramps I get a few days before. Oh well, there is always next month, although until it actually arrives there is always a little bit of hope I suppose!

Ginmonkey84 · 10/07/2019 19:20

FRER are the most sensitive of all tests they are 6.5miu that first one is definitely positive and I can see a faint line on the second. HCG usually doubles 48-72hrs in the early stages, most times in between 30-48 that I’ve seen. It all comes down to your starting point. So say your first hcg was 5 at implantation after 4 days it would only be 20. So if your urine is very diluted you may not get a positive result.

The other scenario would be a chemical pregnancy but you’ll only know if you test again in a few days. Fingers crossed it gets darker for you x

250515xx · 10/07/2019 19:52

Ooh thanks @Ginmonkey84 that’s really helpful 😊

Bobbi31 · 10/07/2019 19:55

See my post about frer.....mine were from Boots and were faulty.

RedFox695 · 11/07/2019 10:29

@250515xx any news? Did AF arrive for you today? Exactly there's always next month and hopefully you'll get your BFP! I'm currently 2 days late for AF and no sign yet, no spotting or cramping at all so hopefully that's a good sign!

@Ginmonkey84 thankyou so much that's very helpful! I was very tempted to test this morning but resisted, so I'm going to do one tomorrow morning and see what happens.

@Bobbi31 really? Wow I'm shocked that you'd get faulty ones from boots... I've read through a few reviews on the Amazon ones and se people have said they are faulty too.

OP posts:
250515xx · 11/07/2019 20:46

@RedFox695 nope, still not here but definitely feel like it’s not far away. The waiting and not knowing for sure is so frustrating isn’t it! Kind of just want it to come so I can start a fresh month now! Hope you get good news tomorrow morning when you test!
@Bobbi31 worrying that you can’t rely on tests from somewhere like boots!

RedFox695 · 12/07/2019 09:31

Well it looks like I'm out for this month then. Nothing on the frer and I'd expect a pretty obvious line on there by now if I was. I suppose my positive IC must have just been a false positive or a chemical. I'm still overdue for AF though, this is the 3rd day now but I do feel like it's coming, been having cramps since yesterday so maybe I'm just late.
@250515xx any news?

@RedFox695 Same, I’ve done another test this morning which is definitely negative no matter how hard I look! Still no AF though. Same again next month!

RedFox695 · 12/07/2019 13:48

@250515xx hopefully you have more luck next time! I'm with you in that now I just want AF to come, I can't be doing with the waiting around. Want it here and over with so we can get on with trying again next month Smile
