Spotting 8 days after a missed period while on the copper coil

I have had the copper coil for 9 months. My periods have been pretty much like clock work since I had it fitted. Fairly heavy periods that would soak through tampons lasting about 5 days.

My period was due 8 days ago. Yesterday I felt really hormonal, had quite bad cramping and back ache (I had to take pain killers which I don’t usually do) I thought my period was definitely about to arrive. I’ve since been spotting on and off. When I wipe and it’s light pink/clear. It’s been on and off today and the cramping has stopped.

I’ve done a pregnancy test today which was negative. I’ve never been late or missed a period in my life other than when I’ve been pregnant. I’m guessing a test (first response) would have shown positive by now If I was pregnant. What else could cause this?

I have heard of people getting pregnant on the copper coil. It actually happened to a friend of mine!

Light pink spotting certainly sounds suspiciously like what you get when pregnant. I usually take the clear blue digital tests as I have found them to detect both my pregnancies at the due on/ just missed my period stage. I remember with my daughter using a cheap Tesco one (first baby) it came up negative multiple tests and then using a digital one the next day or so and it saying 1-2 weeks pregnant. So maybe try another brand or digital.

I could have written this OP... I've done 3 clear blue tests just to be sure 🙈 all negative!! Thinking of phoning GUM clinic when I get a chance. If I get any words of wisdom I'll report back...

I was thinking it’s like an implantation bleed but I don’t think that would happen 8 days after a missed period? Isn’t it usually around a week or so before a period is due?

And if it was an implantation bleed would that not result in a positive test?

The bleed I had has alternated between pink spotting and brown blood - which is exactly what I had in early pregnancy. I'm phoning now!!!

Can't get an appointment until August!!!!!! I've asked for advice over the telephone so hopefully they'll be able to give me some reassurance...

Mine seems to have gone heavier and dark red today I’m thinking it’s turning into a period just a much lighter one than usual

Sounds like a win! I've been told to wait a couple of weeks & if it doesn't come to phone back. Brilliant 🙄

I phoned the advice line yesterday they said the same to me, wait a few weeks and do another test if nothing has happened
