TTC after pill - proving tricky

Came off the pill last August to try and get back to normal before TTC. Had one long cycle (60 days) then 4 normal cycles (27-35 days) before we started trying.

As soon as we started TTC, I had one 65 day cycle with only light AF, then I've just had a 101 day cycle with the heaviest AF I've ever had. Soaked through a night pad in less than an hour yesterday and had to wear night pads plus super tampons to work today. Seems to have calmed down now but I'm feeling seriously weak and weirded out.

Any suggestions anybody? I want to hope this is me getting back to normal after the pill.

Hopeful bump - I can't really talk to anyone but DH and even though he has three sisters he doesn't really get it!

Hey @iRawra !!!

What pill were you on? I was advised by doctors last year that it could take me up to 2 years to conceive after stopping the combined pill! I never realised how difficult it would be until I entered the ttc world!
Those are super long cycles... mine have been 27/28 days like clockwork since I came off it in March. Definitely have had heavier and much more painful AFs too Sad but not to that extent. Were they this heavy pre pill? Hope you're feeling a little better x

Thanks for the reply @lonelyonee ! I was on cilest, then microgynon when I lived in holland, then cilest again once it became available in Holland, then one that I can't even remember what it was called in Australia as they didn't have vilest either, and that one made me breakthrough bleed which I had never had. I just stopped them last year cause I hated the thought of what all the changes must be doing to me.

I've honestly never had a AF this heavy in my life! I used to think I had heavy ones when I was a teen before pill but now I know they were normal.

My doctor said it could take a while too and due to the fact I had normal cycles after the pill and before TTC and blood tests being normal, he has put it down to stress induced amenhorrea. I'm starting a stress course that I've been referred to this Thursday, but I feel like perhaps just thinking about it less has helped AF come on.

I really wanna get back to the normal cycles I had from September to January before we were TTC :(

@iRawra ahh okay! I was on microgynon then levest then rigivedon. They're different brands but essentially the same pill.
I'm a proper stress head so I struggle with relaxing as well, not sure how I can though!
How long have you been ttc?
Maybe keep an eye on it and go back to docs if it doesn't stop soon.

iRawra · 26/06/2019 08:00

@lonelyonee been TTC properly since March. Before that was just messing about a bit lol. What about you? It's so weird and stressful isn't it. I've been pregnant before not when expecting it twice, and now I actually want to be it won't happen. I'm such a perfectionist and generally high achiever so the fact I can't control this is doing me in haha!

Still going on for now but I think it's gradually calming down. At this point I'd be worried about missing OV because of bleeding so long!

@iRawra I came off the pill in March but decided to properly try end of April. Aww at least it's calming down so you know you're heading towards OV. Maybe try OPKs to see?
I'm actually going to step up my actively trying this month as I'm determined to have an April due date haha!

iRawra · 26/06/2019 19:22

@lonelyonee I know! I really want to catch soon as DH best friend and his partner are in 2nd trimester with #2. I'd love them to be close in age!

Nothing much to add, but good luck. I think just dtd every other day. Not having a regular period doesn't necessarily mean not ovulating. I had a bfp (DD) after eight weeks without a period. If you can, just dtd really regularly and don't bother with ovulation tests. Try not to stress.

ReganSomerset · 26/06/2019 19:36

I should add that the bfp was very faint and came up as one to two weeks on clear blue digital- it wasn't just being pregnant for ages without noticing!

wannabemum38 · 26/06/2019 19:45

Ive just come off the pill and TTC not bothering to wait for a cycle just starting straight away. I was on the progestogen only pill(cerelle) . When I came off it before I had a bleed about 28 days after stopping it and then pretty much a regular cycle of 28 days.
I went back on the pill with my now DP and now coming off it again I do get hormonal problems so not looking forward that and heavy periods but will hopefully be worth it. I have age against me too (im 38) so we shall see cross fingers for all. x

lonelyonee · 27/06/2019 13:46

@iRawra yes! DPs little sister has a 7 week old so I'd love them to be close in age as well.
@ReganSomerset very true! You can still be ovulating, I'd test for it @iRawra to see if you are and dtd every other day around that fertile window if you want to be sure.
@wannabemum38 they're a killer when you come off it, my first one was THE WORST I've ever had hands down. They're getting easier but still VERY painful. Another reason why I can't wait to get a BFP no more angry AFs! Haha x

Avocuddles · 27/06/2019 17:25

Hi @iRawra hope you're ok. I can sympathise with the long cycles. I came off cerelle in May last year and it took me over four months to have a bleed, and from then onwards my cycles were at least 42 days long. I've never seen a positive ovulation test and as a result was referred for fertility treatment in April, however before my appointment came along I found out I was unexpectedly pregnant! Unfortunately I miscarried at 7 weeks and am now back to the stressful / frustrating experience of not ovulating / menstruating. I'm hoping I fall pregnant again naturally but if not I'll go back to my GP in a few months time. Have you spoke to your doctor about your long cycles?
