I'm desperate now. I've been back an forth to the doctors for 6 months after coming off the depo almost a year ago with breast pain and irregular bleeding. Period returned January (ish, here and there) with a 3 week period in April. Now on day 26 of this 'period' which alternates between dark, old stringy blood for a few days then a sudden gush of bright red, fresh blood.
Doctors have put me off with medication to stop the bleeding (didn't work) and told me to wait for my smear in June. Had my smear today and explained my symptoms to the nurse. She is worried and angry that I haven't been referred to a gynecologist before now. She told me this isn't normal after depo so wouldn't blame that. She said irregular bleeding would be caused by depo but not this length and not a year later. Also not alternating between old and fresh blood. She also said a smear test does not diagnose cancer but merely picks up early abnormalities so we can stop it developing if cells are present... waiting for it was pointless!! and I need an urgent gynecologist referral.
Well I'm now beside myself and convinced of the worst.
I just want to know other people's experiences please. Could this be down to the depo??
I also had an MRI scan on my brain earlier in the year as my prolactin levels were high and I even started lactating (not pregnant but wish I was). That was clear but they stopped investigating, according to the nurse they should have continued on after this. Had routine bloods all clear but apparently this means nothing either,in the cervical cancer arena anyway.
I'm terrified. And yet more waiting now for referrals which should have been done months ago!
I've been checking my ovulation as well and I haven't ovulated once since coming off the depo. Is this related to the bleeding or not?
Sorry for the long post I really am scared. I might add I came off antidepressants to try for a baby in January and my anxiety is off the scale 😞
