Hello All,

I have just bit the bullet and signed up to Mums Net. I hope it's OK to start a new thread.

I really need some guidance, and I am looking forward to hearing from you guys. I have never been on the pill, the only contraception I have used are condoms. My cycles have always been regular and I've never had any problems. My partner and I decided we would start trying for a baby this year. So in January, I downloaded the app, Eve, to track my cycle. This gave me an idea of when I would be ovulating.

My last period was 6th - 11th May. We did the deed whilst I was ovulating (20th - 26th May.) AF was due 8th June. I tried to wait for as long as possible before doing a pregnancy test. I did one on 15th June and it was a BFN. I followed all of the instructions and ensured I did it first thing. I was really upset.

AF has still not come. Pregnancy tests are really expensive and I can't afford to keep buying them. I have one test left, should I use it tonight? It's been six weeks today since my last period so I think this technically counts as a 'missed' period, as opposed to a 'late' one. My periods have always been so regular, so if I'm not pregnant, what is going on?

Pregnancy tests can be bought for as little as a pound. I'd buy a few packets and take one. Two weeks late would show up by now. Good luck

Thank you, @Mycrazylife85. I'll pop into the Pound Shop after work.

So annoying that suddenly TTC seems to mess up your cycles! I dint know whether it's our bodies playing tricks or you just suddenly become more aware. I hope you're ok @october92

@Mycrazylife85 is right, if you're pregnant you'd expect the BFP to show by now - although there are always stories of people who got BFNs and yet were pregnant

I'd do another test. They say the best result will be with first morning urine but when you're so far late then it shouldn't make a difference now. What brand of test did you do? The tests all have different sensitivity levels so if your hgc level was slow to rise and you used a test that wasn't that sensitive it might not have picked it up then, but should do now.

Are you doing anything to track your ovulation signs (CM,OPKs, bbt?) or just using the app? If you're just using the app to tell you when you're ovulating then it's possible you ovulated later in your cycle than it thinks.

Good luck and let us know how you get on xx

Thank you for being so lovely, @satsumasaturday. I used Clear Blue, the 'Rapid Detection' ones. I haven't been using anything else to track ovulation. I don't really understand it all, if I'm completely honest.

I'm going to do a bunch of tests this evening, and if they're all negative, I'll count this as a missed period and start all over again!

I don't think the rapid detection tests are the most sensitive. The best by far I think are the first response early response tests (not to be confused with the first response rapid response). They cost more than the cheap chemist own brands/pound shop tests, but I'd say if you can get hold of one of them you can test and it should definitely show you a positive now if you are pregnant. So it might cost more, but you will only need one if you see what I mean?

Don't buy the digitals, they're the least sensitive and most expensive. I got a positive on a first response early response, but didn't get a positive digital test until 6 days later (unfortunately ended in miscarriage so I'm still going 😊)

If you're wanting to track other signs so you can know when to need to test in the future I'd suggest keeping an eye on you cervical mucus as this doesn't cost a penny! I track everything I can as my DH protests I'm "using him as a sperm bank" so the idea of just doing it every other day all month is just never going to happen 😂 by tracking ovulation at least I know when to "use" him!!

Fingers crossed for you @october92

Couldn’t get hold of any First Response tests so grabbed a few from the Pound Shop. One was inconclusive (typical!) and the other was negative. What do I do now? Just go back to trying even though no AF..

Good luck, @satsumasaturday. Thank you for all the tips. I don’t have many gal pals, and you’ve been ever so kind. Flowers

I was 9 days late before I finally got my BFP, don't lose hope just yet x

october92 · 17/06/2019 21:05

Ahh thank you, @SamRwl. I’m 9 days late today. A part of me is still hopeful... but then I think, at what point do I fully accept a BFN and start trying again?

Another negative this morning.

@october92 Sorry to hear that. What's going on?! Do you have any PMS symptoms/feel like AF is on its way? I guess the only thing to do now is wait it out. If it hasn't come by next week perhaps make an appointment to see a doctor so they can do a blood test to be sure?

I also don't have many close girl friends, and definitely none close by (we relocated for my work so the only "friends" I have locally are male work colleagues). I therefore rely on google on mumsnet for all my TTC chat and advice 😊

october92 · 18/06/2019 10:03

No symptoms at all, it's so strange @satsumasaturday. I have just booked an appointment to see my doctor next week. If I was pregnant, surely the tests would be picking it up by now?!

OP posts:
october92 · 18/06/2019 10:39

I feel hot/ fever-ish a lot.. not sure if this means anything (clutching at straws!)

OP posts:
satsumasaturday · 18/06/2019 16:15

I've got no idea either, I think everything can be a symptom of pregnancy so I'm not sure I should have asked - unless you'd said you had awful morning sickness or something obvious!! 😂

Well hopefully by the time you go to the docs then you might have had a bfp by or af arrive. While AF arriving isn't good at least you'll be able to draw a line under this cycle and get on with the next.

october92 · 18/06/2019 16:44

@satsumasaturday definitely! I would feel sad if AF came but at least I’d know what’s going on with my body. Dust myself off and start again Smile

Hi @october92 how are you doing?

Abi58 · 23/06/2019 09:39

@october92 sorry to hear this it must be really frustrating 💕
Is there anything that could be affecting it? Are you recently off birth control or unusually stressed? We're your periods regular before? 🤞🏻 for you
