HSG and Clomid

Hi everyone. Just after a bit of advice as my consultant was not very clear on instructions (Or I'm just being dumb!) But I'm going to be on 6th and final Clomid cycle next month. She has advised me to choose between having my hsg next cycle and don't take Clomid, or take Clomid next cycle and have hsg the cycle after. She didn't say anything about not ttc during the hsg cycle. Are you supposed to avoid pregnancy when having hsg? I was under the impression that it's done before you would ovulate. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you! X

Hi @Willowjasmine I had my hsg last Thursday. I had a leaflet and letter that said not to have sex (not even protected). I was asked 3 times if I'd definitely not had sex before the procedure.

In your shoes I'd do the hsg then take clomid next cycle.

Please make sure you take strong painkillers, I won't lie, it's really not a mild procedure. Good luck x

Thanks for your reply @VenusStarr, and thanks for your advice. I was edging towards that as I just want to get it over with. Do you know the reason you're not meant to have sex? Not that I would risk it, just interested.

I was afraid it would be unpleasant Sad but if it gives me answers it will all be worth it x

I think it's to do with the radiation from the xray @Willowjasmine. I have heard that people can conceive quickly after an hsg. Fingers crossed that we're both lucky 🍀

I had an ultrasound after (part of my fertility tests) and it confirmed id already ovulated but have had ovulation pains and ewcm since.

I took the rest of the day off and dh was with me. I got really bloated and was sore for the rest of the day and not quite right the day after. My one tube is fine but the dye went in the other but they weren't sure it came out but didn't seem concerned. I don't see my consultant until September though. I'm also having a hysteroscopy (the camera one) in August and they'll remove my fibroids then, if they can. Horrible that we have to do these things but hope it will be worth it 🤞

Good luck x

Ohhh I see. That makes sense. I have to call up on cd1 to arrange it, it's so hard to get time off work short notice.

Sorry to hear of everything you've gone through Sad fingers crossed you get some answers!

If you happen to have ovulated before the procedure and there is an embryo floating about in there, it's likely to become ectopic. This is because fluid is forced into the tubes and the cilia within the tubes would begin to push an embryo back towards the ovaries during the procedure. In order to avoid any risk of ectopic, avoid sex in that cycle.

@physicskate Oh I understand now. Thanks so much!
