Should I get my finances in order first?

Me and my bf are getting married in August and then we can try to conceive anytime after then (wanted to be married and have house first). I'm 31 and turn 32 in December. Before we start trying we wanted to pay off our 5k credit card, get me a 3k car and get lots of savings and try and pay extra off mortgage. Is this a good thing to do or should we start trying sooner? Know age isn't on my side especially as we're hoping for more than 1 child

Hmm. I think it’s never a bad thing to get on top of your finances but equally, it could take a while to get pregnant and give you more time than you think..

What’s your mat leave like? I get 6 months full pay so I found life OK. We did save up my half of the bills for the second 6 months which was a huge help. But we didn’t pay extra off the mortgage or our car loan etc, it remained affordable.

It sounds like a huge amount of saving to pay off credit cards, cars, more of your mortgage & save! I’d maybe just focus on a couple that’ll help make life more comfortable?

That's a tough one that only really you can answer. That said TTC can take a while anyway, it took us 5 years only food it to end in miscarriage and the second pregnancy also ended in miscarriage so we've had a long time to save. However, when we started TTC 6 years ago we weren't as comfortable as we are now and had just spent a fortune on our wedding and honeymoon so savings were wiped out.

Maybe focus on clearing the credit card as that'll be the most expensive debt but see what happens with TTC. You may regret holding off ......... or you might be lucky.

Yea I think I need to be more prepared that it could take a long time to conceive. Unfortunately I just get statutory maternity pay which isn't great.
Thanks I think we'll focus on the credit card, see how long that takes us and the reevaluate from there. Hoping to get it paid off quick but if it takes too long then we'll have to start trying before the car etc.
