Realistically what are my chances?

I’m 41 at the weekend, overweight (working on it), DH is 43. I’m worried that we’re just far too old. The statistics are absolutely terrifying....I read that we only have a 5% chance each month of conceiving so basically far more likely that it won’t happen. It’s all just so bleak.

On the plus side - neither of us smoke or drink alcohol, we have a 1-yr old which we conceived fairly easily within 5mths. (I turned 40 5mths after he was born). My periods are regular. Does any of that make it more likely it’ll be ok?

I just feel so worried.

I do appreciate how very very lucky we are to have our little boy and although we’d love to give him a sibling if it doesn’t happen I’ll always be grateful to have him.

Bfp at 43.3 first cycle. Overweight. DP was 49. Statistics give you the general picture but don't give up hope.

Thank you for the reassuring replies :)
Also forgot to say I also get a positive Ovulation Stick each month.

5 percent chance a month is 60 percent by a year.

whitehalleve · 30/04/2019 18:50

The statistics are really out of date.

Vagchange · 30/04/2019 18:54

That’s not quite how probability works - not being a bitch, just want to clarify for anyone reading. It’s not accumulative in that way. That’s not to say it’s not more likely the more times you try, all being well.

However, I would say that if your periods are regular and you know that you ovulate that’s a really good sign OP!

Why worry about it? just have a summer of chilled out fun and see what happens. Smile

I took folic acid and ate loads of green veg! Cut out fizzy pop also.

Same boat, I'm 42 been trying for over 2 years. Giving up hope.
I think it works for some, and not for others. As simple as that.

Thank you for the replies, I guess if it happens it happens and if it doesn’t we’ll just have to enjoy life as it is.
Now to convince myself to stay that laid back about it 😆
