Ovulation pains?

For those ladies that get them, what do they feel like?

For background: I came off BC in December which I had started immediately after having DD (who’s now 1), and I don’t ever remember having ovulation pains before my pregnancy. Periods have pretty much gone back to normal since December, 27/28 days each time. I have been getting random mild cramps a week or two before my period but never noted what cycle day it was or anything, and just assumed I was gearing up for AF.

This month we have started TTC #2 so I’m very aware of where I am in my cycle, I’m now CD13 and for the past day or two I have been having mild period like cramps, only lasting 10 mins or so at a time, so I’m thinking it could be ovulation pain, however all I can find on Dr Google is it described as ‘sharp’ or ‘twinges’ or on one side of the abdomen, but mine are definitely low down but not on a particular side, and definitely a dull ache like period cramps.

Sound familiar to anyone?!

Ovulation pain for me has always been on one side and like a pulling feeling as opposed to period cramps.

JamesBoredom · 28/04/2019 20:18

For me, it’s very painful. Apparently, following ovulation, some kind of fluid is released from the follicle and it’s that that causes the pain for people who feel mittelschmertz. Scans confirmed that it was in fact ovulation I was feeling - far worse pain than period pains and trapped wind too. I’m not convinced I’m entirely normal though...

I feel slightly bloated with a piercing / stabbing pain. Drives me crackers...... Hmm

loveskaka · 28/04/2019 20:21

@QueenAnneBoleyn mines are the same, when I sit down it's like theres a knitting needle going up there.

MMama18 · 28/04/2019 21:28

Ouch! to all of the above.

I’ve been having it more frequently this evening, and kind of a bit sharper, more like wind pain maybe? Unless I have trapped wind as well 🙄

No that checks out - it’s definitely a wind pain.

Mine is quite painful, on one side only normally and feels like I giant sharp cramp. Can last anywhere from 30 mins to a couple of hours. Sometimes sharp enough to wake me from sleep.

MMama18 · 29/04/2019 11:08

Thank you everyone!
It’s definitely moved to the right hand side today, and is less crampy, more sharp pinchy? I’m CD14 so hopefully it is ovulation 🤞

Mines a stabby pain on one side (varied each month). I feel quite sicky too.

MMama18 · 29/04/2019 15:49

For those that have pains over a few hours/days does it build up to a grand finale, really bad pain? (i.e. will I know when egg is released?) Or does it just go away?

Starting to wish I’d used an OPK so I wouldn’t be stressing, ironically decided against OPKs as to try and be more ‘relaxed’ and just BD every-other day 🙄 🤦‍♀️

@MMama18 No mine are just bad the whole way through! Almost a bit like contractions (but obviously not), in that they come and then they go... But always at the same consistency.

MMama18 · 29/04/2019 16:56

Mmm it’s such a hard pain to describe! It’s hurting when I’m walking now, if you looked on a diagram it’s almost exactly where I’d assume my right ovary is, and the best way I can think to describe it is like a stitch!
My only slight concern is that because it’s right side I’m thinking appendix 😫 (which would really be inconvenient and mess up my TTC plans! 😂) but I think it’s too low down really...

I'm on CD13 and having what I believe are ovulation pains. Have nausea too! I did an OPK at 5pm which was positive and have ewcm. The pains feel like trapped wind/a stitch you'd get after running! I've always had them but this is my first cycle ttc so have now become aware of what they actually are, haha!

MMama18 · 29/04/2019 19:17

Ooo @Roo that sounds promising! I’ve been having EWCM past few days too so thinking it must be ov! Looks as though we’ll be doing the TWW together! 🤞

@MMama18 Fabulous! I'm so excited! Finally in the 2ww woohoo! 💕

So pain was easing off by 8ish last night and was completely gone by the time I went to bed at 11. No pain today so am I right counting yesterday as ov and I’m now 1DPO?
