TTC - Blood Tests

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this - we visited the doctors after ttc for 12 months (with no success ) and the doctor booked me in for a blood test on day 21.

However, I've just taken a call from another doctor at my surgery for my results, who said she had no idea why I'd been asked to have a 21 day bloody test, as this wasn't showing her anything and I should / need to have a blood test on days 1-5 (during AF)

I'm a little confused and losing faith in the doctors to be honest, I've got a real phobia of doctors/ hospitals to begin with and i don't think they realise the added stress this is putting me through. The blood test I've already had has resulted in large black bruising and a painful arm I can't straighten properly (which the doctor informed me is 'just one of those things that sometimes happens') - now shes asking me to go back in the next few days when AF arrives for blood tests in the other arm (because the original one is still sore and badly bruised a week and a half on!)

Sorry to rant, but I'm just not sure what the process should be - and would really appreciate some clarity on what is meant to happen from someone who has been through this process already?

@Melonhead87 hello, I've been TTC for 8 months and have just been to the doctors for day 21 blood tests also. Think this is the first routine thing they will check, for progesterone levels (to show I have ovulated) but also other things like thyroid and as my doctor said anything general that could affect fertility. (Not entirey sure what these were 🤔) I am awaiting the results. So your first GP was certainly right to do so. I think there is another test they do on CD3 but this wasn't mentioned when I went. Hope that's helps!

Not sure the other doctor you spoke to knows what they are on about! Slightly worrying! 🙄

Should have mentioned the CD3 test (or around then) I think measure LSH and Estrogen levels so if they have offered those too then I would probably go and get that done too so you have everything covered

@RudyRoo thanks so much, that makes so much more sense! I'lll go get the second ones done too, just felt a bit lost like I was being sent for bloods with no reasons behind them.. may have to look at a new doctors surgery going forward, seems like you get different answers depending on who you end up getting, it's a doctor lottery xx

@Melonhead87 yes totally agree, luckily my GP was very helpful. Good luck and let me know how you get on with your results x

@Melonhead87 do you have regular cycles? Cd21 tests need to be done 7 days before your period (based on average 28 day cycle). My cycles are shorted so I went on cd19 and this confirmed ovulation. Just to save you unnecessary stress. If you already knew this, then ignore me!

Good luck with the tests, we had them late last year and got our fertility clinic appointment next month.
