Why am I always DTD at the wrong time?

Just got AF. Looking at the calendar we DTD 2 days too early ONCE AGAIN.

FML. Why me. When will this end?

I would use OPKs to pinpoint your ovulation??

Why don't you try to pay more attention to when the fertile period is? Or did you make a mistake and think you did correct days when you did not? Sometimes you can be dtd on the correct days and it still does not work! Frustrating.

Also the 2 days before ovulation are more fertile than the day of ovulation itself so I don't think you were doing it at the wrong time x

Do toy track your periods? Apps will pinpoint your fertile period which starts a few days before you ovulate

dementedpixie · 03/04/2019 09:20

You not toy

Try every other day? It's a lot of effort but effective sometimes!

Options are either to use opks to help pinpoint ovulation, or dtd every other day in the middle of your cycle (not as specific but if you are struggling to keep track then it covers the bases). E.g. 30 day cycle; dtd every other day from day 10 to 20

If your cycles are long/irregular and causing you to miss fertile window, I’d really suggest OPKs or temperature charting, and keeping an eye on your CM.

Sperm live for up to 7 days, eggs only 2, so early is better than late! If you have the energy/opportunity, you could always dtd spaced across where your fertile period might be e.g. days 10, 12, 14, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28.... keep it up every 3 days until bfp or AF! (Personally I have a toddler and would find that difficult to maintain! So I’m planning to start charting this month)

Sorry I realise I made a very stupid thread in the middle of the night with no details. I just got my period, was in a lot of pain and simply not thinking straight.

We last DTD 2 days prior to ovulation according to my app. Cycles are pretty regular although they've fallen from 28-29 days for basically most of my life to 25-26 days in the last 3-6 months.

I was using opks for a few months with no success. Then one cycle I got a peak but then my period came 1 week later. I was devastated and confused as I'm under the impression that ovulation is supposed to happen 2 weeks before your period starts.

DP works several night shifts and some long days each month. He just does not have the energy or drive to DTD every other day. It's enough of a struggle to force himself to do it every 3 days, sometimes 3-3-2, in the fertile period. It's already ruining our sex life. Doesn't help that he has just one working testicle.

I just feel at my wits end and like we've tried everything. I'm exhausted and in pain and jaded and fed up.

2 days prior to ovulation is still in your fertile period. Sperm lives for up to 5 days, so you are considered fertile in the 5 days prior and the day after ovulation.
