First time temping - does it become obvious with temp rise?

This is my first cycle temping. Does it really become obvious when the ovulation happens? I was supposed to ovulate yesterday, but today there was no significant rise in temperature. Perhaps I might ovulate later? I had days of EWCM....I had the flashing smiles days ago, but ran out of the strips to test for LH surge...Now I am just waiting to see if temp starts to raise a little to see a clear pattern.

For me, it's usually a couple of days afterward ovulation that temp rises by about 0.4 of a degree. It takes three days (I think) of above average temperatures for most apps to confirm that you've ovulated, so you don't really know til after the event.

Thanks for your responses. I use femometer and put it in my mouth. Its linked to my phone. I guess one bad thing, is I am not the most strict on not moving etc before taking temp. I try to move minimum, but I have two dc and sometimes the climb in bed and I have to scoot over in the morning etc or they talk to me, just before taking my temp...or early morning pee or I left the thermometer in the other bedroom (we play musical beds at night in our house). Also, have to take temp at different times in the morning depending when my kids wake (so from 6am to 7:30am). Its my first month, so I am hoping to see a pattern.

I found temps really good although I had to remind myself that it's the overall trend you are looking for.
I looked at too many example charts online which have smooth, obvious rises and falls and then would freak out if I thought my temp that day was higher or lower than what I deemed acceptable....
I would definitely try and do a full cycle as accurately as possible and then see what you think!
And my temperature doesn't rise for a couple of days after ovulating!

RLI1105 , thanks for responding. But how did you know it was not until a few days after ovulating and not that you ovulated a little later then you thought?

I woke at 4am and took my temp and it was 36.1 and then woke at 7:30am and temp was 36.68, which would be considered a rise...but then why at 4am my temp is lower? I guess ill count the 7:30am temp as its closer to the other times taking temps.

If your temps are higher does this mean you have a good amount of progesterone? For example, if they only raise a little, do you think it means that you have low pogersterone (i spot sometimes before my period so I am wondering if this is why).

So on my last cycle I had a positive OPK on cycle day 18. I know some say OPK's are not an exact science but it's a good indication that you will ovulate in the next 12-24 hours. My temp on day 19 was similar to day 18 and then I experienced a jump of 0.5 degrees on day 20. My temperature stayed on the higher side for the rest of my cycle so I'm pretty sure I ovulated on day 19!
I've found it really good using OPK's and tempting because it adds that extra bit of reassurance. Some mornings my temp can be a bit out there and I work night shifts too which can be an issue but using the OPK's too has helped and when looking at my last graph it was actually quite clear!
As for what temp to use (4am or 7:30) you should use the one where you have had the most unbroken sleep so the 4am one would be better.
