Don’t think I’m ovulating at all

Hello,

I am TTC for the first time. Came off the pill last August, knew it would take a while to get back to normal cycles but has now been 8 months and I still don’t think I’m ovulating. I’m having irregular cycles anywhere between 35 and 45 days, have been tracking temperature, CM and more recently using OPKs and not getting even a sniff of a temp rise, change in CM or an LH surge. I’m finding it really stressful as I know lots of people who conceived after coming off the pill quickly, whereas I don’t even think I’m ovulating so surely have no chance! I know I have to be TTC for a year in order for the GP to do tests. I’m just starting to lose the faith, surely all the pill hormones must be way out of my body by now so what’s with the irregular cycles? Has anybody spontaneously developed a regular cycle late after stoping the pill like me, or is it a sign that’s there’s something else going on like PCOS? 😕

Thank you

The pill would have been completely out of your system months ago. I would go to your doctor and request hormone tests if possible. Although they cannot give help with ttc before a year, your cycles not returning is technically a separate issue so they might be able to do some blood tests to check a few bits out.

MapleAndCats · 28/03/2019 17:53

Everything the above poster said. ^^

sassenach84 · 28/03/2019 19:09

When I came off the pill I had two cycles with periods (each about 45-60 days long) and then nothing for about 6-7 months. Had bloods done and everything came back normal. Then suddenly my periods returned and gradually regulated themselves. No idea why I didn't have anything for 6-7 months - could have been stress. But it's worth getting some initial bloods done.

Kins00 · 29/03/2019 19:06

I am in the same boat following my implant being removed in August. Cycles are all over the place going from 26 Days to 39 days to 22 days and now on CD 37 and nos ign of AF but still a BFN! I am waiting for results of blood tests to come back so will go from there. It is so frustrating! X

KatieLl · 29/03/2019 19:08

How do i upload a pic?

Torsz · 29/03/2019 19:16

I had exactly the same experience and it turned out to be due to pcos - as soon as I was diagnosed they were able to fast track us to a fertility clinic which normally takes 2 years (we'd been TTC for about a year at that point).
I'd definitely ask to get checked out - are you using an ovulation monitor at all?

Torsz · 29/03/2019 19:16

Sorry just saw you put about the OPK, ignore that question!

Kins00 · 29/03/2019 19:32

Did you find out about pcos following blood tests?

Syncope · 29/03/2019 21:31

@Seventytwoseventythree and @Kins00 I'm in the same boat - cycles anywhere from 32 days to 47 since coming off the pill. Hugely frustrating. I'm temping and doing OPKs properly for the first time this month. A couple of cycles ago I used some CB advanced tests that I'd been given, but never got peak fertility - although I ran out of tests on CD23 and had such a long cycle that month that if I did ovulate, it wouldn't have been until around CD28 anyway.

Thus far this cycle my BBT has been all over the place. Currently on CD16 with no positive on OPKs either. No bloody idea what's going on. Confused

Kins00 · 29/03/2019 23:12

@syncope our paths cross again (unfortunately not with news of BFPs!) I got peak fertility on clear blue last Cycle CD15 but then AF came on what would have been CD23! I got flashing smiley CD13 to CD17 this time but then ran out of tests! I tried with temping but I don't have a steady enough routine to be able to do it at the same time each morning so my results were all over the place. I just want to move on to the the next cycle now, no AF and BFNs are a great combination for stress!

Torsz · 30/03/2019 07:54

@Kins00 not sure if that was for me, but my sister has pcos so they already knew it was a possibility, but we're both naturally quite small and didn't tick many of the 'physical' symptom boxes. They did blood tests and an internal scan and both my ovaries were covered in cysts so it was easy to diagnose!

MrsB899 · 30/03/2019 10:42

Hi OP I came off my pill last April and my periods have only just become regular (last 3 months 28 days) before that I would be anything from 30- 40 day cycles. I was told it could take anything up to a year for normal cycles to resume. Hope this helps x

Explorers10 · 05/04/2019 20:27

@torsz

Im also small and my blood tests came back with high testerone. Due to have a scan soon to check for cysts. My periods are regular. Can I ask how you are getting on at the fertility clinic having being diagnosed with pcos? Are there many options? I’m a bit puzzled as I got pregnant first try with my first and when it’s come to trying for my second I was a bit shocked about my blood tests. Not sure if I had pcos when I had my first and wasn’t aware of it?

Torsz · 06/04/2019 05:47

@Explorers10 hi, the fertility clinic were brilliant - I was put on metformin straight away which helped with symptoms like my bad skin, and they kick-started my periods over a few months with norathisterone. Once they got them back up and running I was given clomid for 6 cycles along with monthly scans and the last cycle worked Grin so it took a long time (about 12m from referral) but we managed to conceive and are now 32 weeks!
This is our first and my sister had the same issues from the start but we've been advised there's a good chance that our mum also has pcos and never knew about it so it could be the same for you!

Explorers10 · 06/04/2019 10:02

@torsz

Thank you so much for your reply & congratulations on your pregnancy! This really helps as given me some hope that I can have a 2nd child. Just took me by such a surprise as I had no issues conceiving my 1st & she was a healthy baby. I also have no physical symptoms of it no bad skin or hairs on face, regular periods and I am slim. Will see what the scan reveals and fingers crossed there be something the doctors can put me on to help me conceive if I have pcos.

Explorers10 · 06/04/2019 11:19

@torsz

Sorry forgot to ask did you change your diet to low carb keto? Also have you been taking infolic? Hope you don't mind all the questions

Torsz · 06/04/2019 22:12

@Explorers10 no worries, thanks and good luck! I didn't change my diet, other than to start eating more as the clinic also made me cut down on exercise and increase my food to reduce stress on my body... although the metformin did take away my usual cravings for junk food!

Torsz · 06/04/2019 22:13

Ps and yes I was taking folic acid and omega 3 from when we started ttc onwards x

AysLon · 07/04/2019 08:05

Hi, mind if I join here? I'm CD22 and after 8 days of flashing smiley face on the CBOPK I am beginning to think O is not happening for me this month. TTC 2nd month so I know early days. More than anything I just want regular cycles. Been off the pill since October, cycles around 32/33 days but it's come down from 52! Any ideas how to speed O along? I take seven seas supplement for TTC.

Explorers10 · 09/04/2019 19:24

@ayslon

I had the same as you flashing smiley faces and no static smiley face then I ran out of the opks. Made me more anxious as was not sure when I ovulated. I’ve heard the seven seas vitamins can make your cycle longer. Not sure why

Explorers10 · 09/04/2019 19:29

@torsz thank you for your reply. I’m trying to stay positive. Was this all done under the nhs or privately? Did your blood tests also show high testesterone? Or was your pcos down to both irregular periods & cysts?

RudyRoo · 09/04/2019 19:39

I am in the same boat. Came off pill 8 months ago and cycles are still anything between 35 - 45 days. Went to my GP expecting to be robbed off but they were helpful and now I have to go back for 21 cycle day to get tested to check I am ovulating.

RudyRoo · 09/04/2019 19:39

Also should add my periods are very, VERY light, practically just spotting for 2 days. Trying not to stress but it's so hard not to!

RudyRoo · 09/04/2019 19:40

Sorry first post should read 'fobbed off' not robbed 😂

Torsz · 09/04/2019 19:43

@Explorers10 I think I had high testosterone too but can't really remember! And yes all nhs - we were due to start ivf the following month but then got lucky ☺️
