EURGH! OPK and Clear Blue confusion - which one to believe?!

I've been using OPKs for the last few months but not had any luck so got Clear Blue Digital this month - the one that has low, high and peak.

Started testing on CD10 as advised in the instructions and got low as expected as it's first reading and much earlier than I normally seem to ovulate.

Tested again today CD11 and I've skipped flashing smiley for high fertility and gone straight to peak! This seems early for me, I'd normally not ovulate until Monday/Tuesday if the OPKs were to be believed (although I'm yet to get a bfp so who knows)

I thought I'd test using OPKs as well, just to see if they correspond so I did...and didn't get a positive OPK, it's dark but not darker than control.

So now I'm a bit confused - I guess I could get a darker OPK later on today earlier on tomorrow which would still line up with Clearblue?

I don't track temps or anything so have been basing it all around physical symptoms and OPKs. I do have EWCM today...

Anyone had similar and can shed any light as to whether I'm misunderstanding? Thank you!

How long are your cycles and what day do you usually get a positive opk?

Yakadee · 23/03/2019 17:45

I used the CB ones and found them to be really good (used it for 2 months and got pregnant the second month). I'd be dtd to make sure you cover all bases but maybe keep testing just to see what happens.

Good luck x

@nannypear on average 29 days and I usually get a positive OPK day 16/17

thanks @yakadee as it's my first time using them maybe next month will be better - I was just a bit confused I've seemingly skipped the high fertility days

That is early right enough! I used them and fell pregnant first month of use after using the one step opks the prior months. I too went from low to peak fertility and skipped the flashing face. Not sure what to say OP... I guess you just continue having sex and using your strips and see when they turn positive. Weird though.

@nannypear Thanks for your reply, I'm baffled by it! But I also wondered if maybe I've been ovulating earlier than I thought and that's why I've not got that elusive bfp yet, I guess only one way to find out! We dtd thursday, so now I'm wondering if that was technically in my fertile window, the clearblue just wouldn't have picked it up because it was the first time I used them so it had to get a measure of my hormone levels...so hopefully I've already got one chance in already ;)

The opks are nearly positive but definitely not dark enough yet.

I think I'll get on with DTD and also keep testing with the cheapy opks and see what happens. I guess I could just be ovulating earlier this month but it seems bang on the tail of my period which was highly unexpected.

I've done another cheapy opk and it's now lighter than it was this morning, so who knows!

Can't test with CB again as the smiley stays for 48hours and OPK are no negative so maybe CB was right and OPK just missed the surge. Unsure whether that means I've missed my chance now or whether I should get on with it anyway just so I'm covered!

I didn't realise tracking could be so complicated!

The opk detects the surge of hormones before you're going to ovulate. If it's lighter again it's because you're probably ovulating / going to ovulate really soon x

NannyPear · 24/03/2019 17:31

Get on with it anyway! I temped as well as used opks and I appeared to ovulate 2 days after the peak so still got a chance there. Keep us updated!

thank you both, will do Grin

that's really interesting @nannypear just when I think I've got my head around this stuff I confuse myself and forget what I already know! Let's hope DH isn't feeling tired tonight haha
