Missed Miscarriage and then Chemical Pregnancy soon after

Hi everyone, so last week I got my bfp and was very excited though surprised as straight after a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks without a period. I however had lots of pregnancy symptoms. The midwife reassured me no more likely to have another loss because of ERPC surgery and to not worry. I also had good line progressions on my FRER tests so it felt like all was well.

Unfortunately I’ve had severe cramping over the weekend so I tested again just to check progression and my FRER is now barely positive. I’m just waiting for the bleeding to start so another loss albeit very early. I’d be over 4 weeks so there should be a stronger line if still pregnant.

I just wondered has anyone else had surgery for a missed miscarriage and then had an early loss (sorry hate the word chemical) soon after? My doctor and midwife both didn’t think it would make another miscarriage likely but can’t help think it has.

I recovered very quickly from the surgery but I’ve had cramping since just after ovulating which has progressively got worse. I’d hoped when I got the bfp it was implantation as it seemed to ramp up at that point. Now I’m assuming it was something to do with why the embryo didn’t stick.

The pain is now very sharp and uncomfortable. I don’t normally get strong period pains which makes me think it’s linked to my situation. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Thanks @Michellebops and @Mistymeow

This is extremely heavy. I know I had a very early miscarriage but find it hard to believe my lining was thin. Xx

I saw an amazing GP. She's going to do a full fertility screen on me and husband. The bad news is I'm in the hospital. They think it's ectopic. I'll keep you posted @Mistymeow and @Michellebops xx

Also glad your saw a better gp.
I have an appointment tomorrow with mine xxx

Catconfusion · 20/03/2019 19:14

Thanks @Michellebops just relieved the GP spotted it. Hopefully it's not. It's horrible being back here but you're right, it's the best place. I hope your appointment goes well. Let us know how it goes. Xx

Will do thank you.

Hope you get a good rest tonight xx

Mistymeow · 20/03/2019 20:36

Gosh that’s scary. Fingers crossed it’s not ectopic (I remember you said you had sharp pain and then it calmed down). It’s good that they are being so thorough. A decent GP is worth their weight in gold. Take care x

@Catconfusion

Just wondering how you are today xx

Catconfusion · 21/03/2019 19:59

Hi @Michellebops thanks for asking after me. It not ectopic. Saw a very lovely young male gynaecologist who really helped me gain perspective on what's happened.

His theory is I'm having a very heavy and painful bleed as it's the first one since the surgery and I've had a chemical pregnancy. The endometrium will have thickened as the embryo tried to implant making it doubly as heavy.

It could be either the lining wasn't right or another chromosomal issue. He told me we can try again straight away if I can accept we may have another chemical if the lining still hasn't recovered next cycle. He suspects though I'll be back to normal now I've had a decent bleed. Chemical pregnancies are not harmful to the body so I think we'll risk it. The worst that could happen is a heavy bleed again next period if another embryo tries to implant.

All in all I'm feeling much better about what happened. Xx

I'm so glad it's not ectopic.

Hope you get lots of rest and allow yourself to recover emotionally as well as physically xxx

Mistymeow · 21/03/2019 22:13

So glad you’re home and resting, and it wasn’t ectopic. That totally makes sense what the gynae doctor says. I suppose they just don’t know enough about early pregnancy loss to say for sure, which is why we get so many mixed opinions from doctors.

Hope you’re feeling a little better now x

Michellebops · 31/03/2019 19:54

@Catconfusion hey! Just wondering how you are doing xx

Catconfusion · 31/03/2019 20:57

Hey @Michellebops I'm doing ok thanks. Been keeping busy today. My doctor has diagnosed me with IBS so explains why the cramping I got was so painful. Im seeing the doc on Wednesday and hoping we can get some more tests done. She's the one who sent me to hospital the other week. She said she was willing to do a sperm analysis on DH and look at my hormone levels.

I saw a different gp after her who refused to do any more testing until 3 miscarriages. She wouldn't count the second one as thinks it's related to the first. I'm going back to the other doctor who was quite willing to test due to our age (39). Fingers crossed!

How are you? Thanks for asking after me!

Xx

@Catconfusion that's good things might be a bit more positive for you.

I was at doctors for bloods on Friday for cycle day 21 to check I'm ovulating.

Also been referred for pelvic ultrasound to check for ovarian cysts. I had a large one removed last year.

I'm due period next weekend but not hopeful this month.

Xxx

Catconfusion · 03/04/2019 08:23

How did you get on with the tests @Michellebops ? It's my doctors appointment today so hoping I get some tests done. Really struggled yesterday with IBS and low mood.

I hope the ultrasound goes well and there are no cysts. It's amazing how quickly ovaries can resolve cysts. My ovaries were completely polycystic a few years back, they're now clear of any! Xx

I've just had a text from surgery to phone after 10, results are in.

It's my birthday tomorrow so I did an frer this morning, total bfn. 11dpo but I reckon if positive it would be showing.

Not had my scan date, night actually push for it to go private as I have private healthcare but need the initial referral before I can transfer.

How are you feeling?
Good luck with your appointment ❤️❤️❤️

Catconfusion · 03/04/2019 13:46

How did you get on with your results?

So difficult as some people don't get a positive test until later. I guess if you're absolutely sure about when you ovulated you'd expect a faint positive on frer.

If you have private healthcare I'd push for it.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow. Anything fun planned?

Im feeling a bit deflated. Saw the same doc I saw during last miscarriage and she's gone back on her word to do a fertility screen on me. She's given me a sperm analysis form for DH though so that's something. We've just been left to get on with it. I now have stress related IBS so she's said to stop temping and monitoring symptoms but we really want to be pregnant again. I have irregular cycles so wouldn't know when to DTD if I stop temping. I think the NHS really do neglect the mental health issues TTC and miscarriages cause. xx

I totally agree re the nhs. Lots of awareness re mental health but there wouldn't be so many sad endings for families if the awareness was put into action. Same with miscarriage shouldn't need 3 consecutive before you're tested. A failed chemical is before a heartbeat can be seen therefore as soon as you are over 6 weeks if you miscarry it should be investigated. I was almost 13 weeks and my baby measured over 11 weeks and I've no idea why it died.

And it's such a taboo subject but more common than you know.

The blood results showed low b12 so tablets first then possibly injections if it doesn't rise. It's good that nothing else showed but makes no sense if I can't get pregnant.

I'm not 💯 sure when I ovulated. I got the smiley on the 21st, flo app suggested it would be 22nd but I didn't get the ewcm until the 24th. So I'm either 10, 11 or 12 dpo.

People are getting positive on 9dpo so I don't know for sure I'm out but don't feel confident. I've ordered some frer from amazon due between 5th and 8th so I'm not going to waste them unless my period doesn't show by Monday.

I'm out for afternoon tea with family tomorrow and going out for dinner with partner on Saturday night.

Thanks for asking, sorry for the novel xxx
