Anyone avoiding ttc this month for a Christmas baby

We were waiting til later this year to ttc but this month I honestly thought I was pregnant afrer having what I thought was an implantation bleed. AF then arrived. Its made me realise how much I want another baby. DH still wants to wait as he doesn't want a Christmas baby. I wouldnt mind but I have to respect his wishes.

Anyone else in ttc limbo?

I’m in the same boat! My DH doesn’t want an Xmas baby or winter baby as we were both born jan & feb so we get the real blues as can’t celebrate our birthdays due to the crap weather. This month though we have agreed to take a more relaxed approach still dtd but not all the time and not putting pressure on. So not using opks this month as I have been a bit obsessed the last 3 cycles. I’ve also been told by the GP to relax a bit more as trying too hard can stop it all happening.

I didn’t want a Dec baby either when I started off ttc. I really wanted a summer baby but it hasn’t worked out for us as this will be my 7th cycle ttc. @explorers10 I’m the same as you I’ve been told my GP to chill out too as I have been obsessing a bit too much over the last 3/4 cycles. So this month we’ll dtd as and when we can but as I want it so much now I don’t mind.

It is really hard isn’t it to not obsess over it. I’m going on holiday tomorrow so hopefully that can take my mind off TTC. I think the next 3 cycles if it doesn’t happen I won’t be too distraught as we didn’t want a winter baby to begin with either but if it happens it’s a bonus. I was the same as you wanted a summer baby and didn’t realise it would take a few cycles. My first happened straight away.

From another perspective - we aren't delaying- my DP was born a week before Christmas- he says he loves having his birthday at that time of year because everyone is so jolly and festive.

DS is a Christmas (ish) baby and this is the first cycle we can TTC since MMC. It would be an expensive month but no I'm not delaying. I love Christmas even more now it's extra special.

I have a Christmas birthday. It's fine. Sorry to be harsh but it's a stupid reason to not TTC. You could wait a month and have an early baby anyway.

I have a Christmas birthday. I think it’s a pretty magical time of year to have a birthday to be honest. Yes it’s abit rubbish with everyone being skint, and tight arses giving you one present for both but I really don’t see why you would hold off ttc...we’re having an August baby which some people say they wouldn’t want. I don’t really care when their birthday is.

@explorers10 I ended up booking a holiday for 6 weeks time too as it’s getting to me so much. Everyone around me is getting pregnant and I’m finding it really hard. I didn’t think it would take this long I know it sounds so stupid!

@mrs71 I know exactly how you feel. It is so hard. I think the only thing we can do is enjoy life and try to keep occupied to take our minds off TTC. That’s what I’m going to try and do anyway and try to be positive even though it’s so soul destroying each month when AF arrives. We are doing all we can to try and make it happen. Fingers crossed we get our BFPs soon.

Sorry I didn't in any way mean to upset anyone that has been ttc for a while. I personally dont take it for granted how difficult it could be ttc this time around and am forever grateful we were so fortunate to fall pregnant so quickly with my son. I am 33 this year and had a few issues in and after labour which I think may make pregnancy more difficult. I now also have irregular periods so cannot easily predict fertile window etc. I dont have an issue with an xmas baby, its DH. He says he thinks it would confuse DS if #2 was born close to christmas. Going on first date of period this month if we concieved then the due date would be around the 23rd.

I am in the same predicament?! I have a December baby and me and my husband have said having another December one would be crazy as it’s such a busy time of year for us already and I would hate anything to overshine my daughters birthday or Christmas? but we are ready to start trying and undestand that it might not happen quickly again Anyway, whats everyone’s thoughts?

I was due to have a June baby but miscarried. I then got pregnant again and he turned up on Christmas Eve last year (a bit early!). You can't really plan these things: those couples who decide they want/don't want a specific month and get their wish are very, very, very lucky.

When we're ready for another one we'll be trying regardless of the month, just because we know life can be unpredictable. Enjoy the process and remember you can't plan for this kind of thing!

I never wanted a Christmas baby either. But after my MC in January I've just decided that I would give the earth for another healthy baby and I'm not arsed which month it's born.

It's also not ideal to be giving birth around Christmas Day and Boxing Day due to reduced staffing coverage in hospital etc. After a long time TTC I'm not taking any months off myself but understand why some people would.

@Retrieversandredwine I am the same. After a miscarriage in Jan I would be very happy even if it was a Christmas Day baby.
I started ttc in March last year and almost delayed it until May but decided not to and now still ttc. I think it happens when it's meant to happen.

@FlapJackered sorry for your loss and that you've been trying for so long. I agree it happens when it's meant to, personally I think it's bonkers to take months off TTC when you want a baby just because of the potential due date.

I don't really accept the reduced staffing argument over Xmas - I had DS in September and it was mindlessly busy on the labour ward due to the month.

Christmas day is a normal working day in hospitals reduced staffing isn't a problem.

I would be delighted to conceive this mo th and then I'd have 2 Dec babies! All I want is a healthy baby.

I’ve got an almost Christmas baby (well she’s 11 but you know what I mean). She loves her Christmas birthday, there’s so much going on at that time of year we never struggle to find a fun thing to do for birthday, and she never has her birthday at school. For school it’s a good time to be born, old in the year but not the oldest. It’s also a good time to generally have a baby as you can hibernate indoors when they’re tiny and it’s cold out and then as they get older the weather warms up and you can have lovely spring and summer walks with them in the pram.

We have been TTC for a couple of months now and initially we agreed that we wouldn’t nessesarily try for a December due date but after failing to fall pregnant (with my first I fell pregnant straight away) we’ve decided to carry on ttc as we just don’t want to miss any opportunities x

I accidentally clicked onto this thread. I don't think I've been be ttc before. Is this an actual thing?? Avoiding certain months? If so, avoid July, new nchd rotation...

Ds is a Xmas day baby. We celebrate his half birthday in June which works well for us. Having him was fab as the wards were generally quiet of mums so had more attention than when I had dd.

Think I’m going to not hold back this month and just go for it, it might not happen again as quickly so just need to go for it and what’s meant to be will be, if another December is what’s meant for us that will be lovely :-)

Staffing is the same over Christmas as it is any other day of the year. That's why us poor sods in the NHS can't spend Christmas with our own families!

My DH has worked many a Christmas Day for the NHS. I know technically it's the same as any other weekend or bank holiday, but in practice it doesn't seem to work out that way. I'm just going on the experiences of a) him being overstretched and b) friends who felt there was a noticeable difference giving birth over the Christmas holiday and the Easter bank holiday than for their other births. Maybe they were just unlucky!
