Hi,
I had my first appt yesterday
She took down details from me about my last period what my periods are like etc.

She also asked my hubby questions.
And our sex life etc.

She did do an internal exam quickly too and i think she took some swabs.

I had blood tests done and also made an appt for a transvaginal scan and then have to make an appt for a H.S.G scan once my period comes.

Hubby also referred to have a sperm analysis.

It really wasn't a daunting appt at all.

Oh you also get weighed and measured!!

Hope that helps!!

Xx

Thank you so much. My hubby had his sperm checked at the start of January ( everything all good) and ive just finished my period on sunday xx

What was the internal for?
Whats a transvaginal scan?
Whats a hsg scan and why do u need it when your period comes.
Sorry for all the questions xx

Hi OP. Recently started the process too. We were referred to consultant by gp. DP had sperm analysis before appointment. At the appointment the consultant asked us both questions about general health, periods and sex life and gave advice about what any symptoms may or may not mean and what tests would come next. He then referred me for 21day blood tests to check for ovulation, referred DP for some support with ED issues. I've now had an ultrasound and am due to Have a hsg x-ray to check fallopian tubes. I think this is all fairly standard and then we go back for decision on action.

I've found it a really positive process to be honest. Blood test results were quick and they told me about my ultrasound there and then and same with hsg apparently. Nurses always on hand to answer queries. Good luck!

veeboo · 06/03/2019 19:42

The internal scan checks womb lining/ovaries/uterus. It would spit anything unusual like a cyst. The hsg checks your fallopian tubes aren't blocked. I've got mine next Thursday. They will explain all of this and should give you leaflets. The bus website is also helpful but don't be afraid to ask them questions.

sazzle3 · 06/03/2019 19:53

I have also had 1-4 day and 21 day bloods done. Thank u ladies. Have u both got any children? Xx

OP posts:
veeboo · 06/03/2019 19:59

No children!

sazzle3 · 06/03/2019 20:06

@smarty14 do u have children?? The weight thing im a little over weight but im doing slimming world. So far ive lost just under 3 stone but still have about 4 to lose xx

OP posts:
smarty14 · 06/03/2019 20:10

We have no children. I'm 33 and hubby is 36

The internal scan i have been told is very much like a smear .

The hsg one they put a catherter (sp?) into your uterus and then put in a dye to check your tubes; if they are fine my doc has said that she will then look into endometriosis for me.
They have to make sure you aren't pregnant when they do this scan so you ring when your period starts and they get you booked in within 10 days and you have to abstain from sex too. This is my hospitals way but yours may be different

I have also read alot of people have got pregnant after the hsg as it "clears the cobwebs" so to speak.

Nice to talk to people in the same boat tbh.

Xx

Refilona · 06/03/2019 20:12

The HSG can flush the tubes and lubricate them - lots of people get pregnant immediately after, me included! Good luck.

MollyD88 · 06/03/2019 20:14

Exactly the same experience as @smarty14.
Didn’t expect the weighing - and it was straight after Christmas...

Internal exam straight away, lots of questions, the sperm analysis booked, bloods booked and hsg ordered.

So far I’ve had the hsg and found a blocked tube - waiting for our next appointment now to see where we go from here. The waiting is the worst!

smarty14 · 06/03/2019 20:14

@sazzle3
Yes i am overweight too and i know that. Also doing slimming world but only 3 wks in. But have done sw before and know i can do it if i really put my mind to it!!

I know weight will effect my fertility but i also know myself that something isn't right if you get what i mean

You've done amazing!!!

Fyi the doc will tell you that if you aren't in a healthy bmi range you won't currently be eligible for nhs ivf if thats what it comes to down the line. They will still do all the investigative tests first
What area of the uk are you in

sazzle3 · 06/03/2019 20:16

Ohhh yes my sister had this and then fell pregnant the following month. Xx

smarty14 · 06/03/2019 20:17

@MollyD88

How far away is your appt?
My results appt is in aug 🙈🤣 but told to ring once i've all my scans and they will hopefully bring it forward.

Hubbys sa is in july but going to see if gp can get us an appt at a different hospital quicker on the advice of the doctor yesterday.

veeboo · 06/03/2019 20:19

@smarty14 they told me exactly the same about hsg. That's good to know about hsg @refilona as I'm due to ovulate the day or two after so secretly hopeful!

smarty14 · 06/03/2019 20:28

@veeboo what is the bus website? I like to try and get alot of info and read stuff up. Sometimes not a good thing 🙈

Good luck with your hsg! Let us know how you get on!

sazzle3 · 06/03/2019 20:28

@smarty14 im in the north east. Oh so im ahead really then arent i because ive just had all my bloods take. The 1-4 day bloods to check fsh level which were all good and my day 21 day bloods. Ive just finished Af tomorrow will be cycle day 7.
We are ttc#4 my older 2 we fell without trying and our 3rd it took us 6 months. When we started ttc#4 never did i think it would take this long 😔😔 xx

OP posts:
smarty14 · 06/03/2019 20:32

@sazzle3
I had already had bloods done too but doc then ordered more. They took 5 vials!
But hopefully you won't have to give any more though!

Lets hope a hsg scan can help us all!! Xx

sazzle3 · 06/03/2019 20:34

@smarty14 i hope so. Xx

MissBridgetJones · 06/03/2019 20:38

Ok for me to follow this one too? First appointment next week x

agteacht · 06/03/2019 20:46

I would like to follow this too

I have had day 2 bloods and husband SA, both fine, but my bloods showed elevated prolactin so I am in the middle of taking medication to reduce that. That is meant to take 4-8 weeks so we haven't done any further investigations yet.

I am tempted to book in for private tests such as the hsg you are describing as I am 36 and DH and we have been trying for well over a year now. I'm probably just being impatient... so I will follow your journey for now...

MollyD88 · 06/03/2019 21:25

@smarty14 it’s a week on thurs, so not long now...terrified of being hit with terrible news!

We already knew the sperm analysis wasn’t great but now problems with me as well
make it all so much worse!

August is forever away - hope they bring it forward for you!

smarty14 · 07/03/2019 11:08

I just like to have someone/people to talk to about it all.

Its all very scary but know we are now under the right place to be for help.

I was also very tempted to get some tests done privately as i am very impatient.

Hubby had a sa a few years ago for different reason and he was fine then and i just know my body and know its something to do with me

smarty14 · 07/03/2019 17:07

@sazzle3 how did it go?

sazzle3 · 07/03/2019 17:18

@smarty14 truthfully s**t
Took bloods thats it basically coz im over weight she said thats why im not falling. Lose more weight ( ive lost just under 3 stone) and i might fall.
They did nothing else at all no scans or nothing. Im devastated for all they know i might be blocked. X x
