Those who have had baby number 2, how long did it take you to conceive? My first i conceived on 1st cycle. Trying for number 2 and currently on cycle 4

Think it is very unpredictable, I took 7 years to conceive my first and it only took one attempt to get number 2 !

endevo · 01/03/2019 17:07

First pregnancy 2 months, ended in MMC. Second pregnancy 2 months, third pregnancy 1 month.

PastaSauceHoarder · 01/03/2019 17:21

My first baby was a surprise (but much longed for!) pregnancy - currently 11 weeks pregnant with my second baby who was conceived on our second cycle of TTC. Smile

ShowOfHands · 01/03/2019 17:23

First took 14 cycles and two losses. Second took one night.

Explorers10 · 01/03/2019 17:48

Should i be worried that I'm in cycle 4? All of you have conceived on shorter cycles

tried20names · 01/03/2019 17:57

My first was one night and the second was 12 months. I was surprised the second took so long, I naively assumed it would be easy like the first time. Try not to worry, 4 cycles isn't long - a GP will advise that up to a year is quite normal

Explorers10 · 01/03/2019 18:25

Thank you, I also naively thought I get pregnant straight away with 2nd. Trying not to worry something is wrong

I’m pregnant with number 3 - took 5 cycles and was the first cycle using clear blue ovulation kit - I obviously would highly recommend the test kit (although the morning sickness has me doubting it at times!)

13 months with DC1, it is now month 18 of TTC DC2. I do have very irregular periods though which is probably why it takes me so long.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 02/03/2019 00:56

Dc 1 was a surprise (the best one ever), dc 2 was 5 days after I had the coil removed and our first time dtd- very shocked it happened so fast, but was warned it could take at least a year of trying and I was 24 at the time.

Arowana · 02/03/2019 01:06

Don't worry OP. It's totally normal for it to take a few months. Even if you're both fertile and you have sex at the right time there's still only a 20% ish chance of conceiving in a given month (age dependent obvs).

impatientmammy · 02/03/2019 05:10

First baby was a surprise been ttc for 16 months so far x

Lauren83 · 02/03/2019 05:58

9 years and 5 IVF cycles for DC1 (donor eggs) then pregnant with DC2 8 months later (3rd period since stopping breast feeding and only got 1 tube) bodies are strange things!

abcriskringle · 02/03/2019 06:04

First time with DC1
7 months with DC2 (7 weeks pregnant now).

seven201 · 02/03/2019 06:06

9 months for dc1
2nd cycle pregnant then early miscarriage
Been trying for 14 months with no joy.

You really shouldn't worry yet. If you're over 35 you go to the gp after 6 months. If you're under 35 I think it's a year but they may tell you to keep trying for a while!

ShowOfHands · 02/03/2019 06:46

You can expect it to take up to a year in a normally fertile couple. As I said, it took me 14 cycles and 2 losses to conceive dc1. If your chances of conception are only around 20% and up to half of fertilised eggs fail to implant successfully (chemical pregnancy), you can't expect it to happen immediately.

Try to enjoy ttc safe in the knowledge that it's a marathon, not a sprint.

ThankYouDebbie · 02/03/2019 06:52

I never got baby number 2, I stopped after 7 years and 4 M/c. I know it seems interminable when you're going through it but a few months is really not so long Flowers

Explorers10 · 02/03/2019 08:57

Thank you that’s so helpful and reassuring l. Will try to relax a bit more. I’m 34 so I guess that’s got my anxiety up

6 cycles for me at age 35. Keep going and don't panic!

icannotremember · 02/03/2019 10:22

Just over a year. I was really down about it by the time we conceived ds2. Ds1 had been an oops, I'd stupidly thought the next baby would be very easy to conceive. As it happens, his was the very best birth of the lot and he is my easiest child, so the year of waiting and worrying was more than worth it.

Mummytoboyxx · 02/03/2019 14:48

2nd cycle DS1 and 9 months with DC2 (currently 28+2). But had Mc in between x

Explorers10 · 02/03/2019 15:21

Thank you for all your replies and sorry for all those that had unfortunate mcs. I wish the best for all those still trying. I know the feeling of being down I will try to pick myself up from it and be positive and just keep trying X

OP posts:
TillyTheTiger · 02/03/2019 15:27

1st cycle for DS, 12th cycle for second pregnancy which resulted in MC at 13 weeks. 4th cycle for my current pregnancy (8 weeks). It seems to be totally random!
I know TTC is soul-destroying at times, just try to keep your chin up OP, and best of luck.

FilthyforFirth · 02/03/2019 18:24

Hi Explorers. 8 months for my first, this will be cycle 5 this time. Also 34 and feeling very fed up. Fertile window next week so let's see...

Marshnic · 03/03/2019 06:35

6 months with my first and approaching cycle number 11 trying for number 2. Finding it really hard to stay positive :-/
