Ovulation kits V app V mucus test?

Hi all,

So back on the trying trail with gusto Smile

Bought some clearblue ovulation testers, which have given me the circle (meaning not ovulating) for the last few days.

Also using this app that tracks my ovulation, and it says that I will be ovulating in a few days.

As of today I have a little mucus when wiping, so know thats a sign that I'm ready too.

Question is, which one should I trust? When is the best time to start trying.

Relatively new to this trying thing, had a miscarriage at christmas, but had conceived very quickly with that pregnancy.

Thanks for any and all help :-)

I used a mixture of all three and worked out a pattern from there. It can take a couple of months. The app can't be as accurate and I found it was off a couple of days sometimes. Good luck!

Hi OP,

We're going to move this over to conception for you - we're sure you'll get some more advice and support!

I think it's best to use them all together and if you want to maybe start tracking your basal body temperature as well (it will rise after you ovulate so not that useful for predicting ovulation in advance but great for confirming that it's happened).

Mucus is not a very accurate sign for me because I can start getting it anywhere from 3 to 7 days before ovulation. Opks are pretty accurate, I normally ovulate the day after I get a positive. Previous cycle length (i.e. using the app) is not that accurate for me as the length varies quite a bit - especially after miscarriage.

I hope you get pregnant as easily as you did before!

Oh I meant to say, you could have a look at the Sperm Meets Egg Plan (SMEP). It basically says have sex every other day from the 8th day of you cycle, do an OPK every day from the 10th day and once you get a positive OPK have sex for three days in a row, skip a day and then have sex once more.

You could start "doing the deed" DTD today if you are noticing signs of ovulation (mucus). Is the mucus quite stretchy like egg white, or wet like water? If so, that's a good sign. If it's kind of creamy, you're not quite ready yet.

If your clearblue opk says you're still in the low fertility stage, you could wait or day or two until you get the high fertility reading. (Flashing smiley face). It's 99% accurate, so you should trust it.

You don't want to wait until you get the peak reading (static smiley face) in my opinion. Just in case you have a quick surge and an egg is released over the next few hours! You limit your chances.

You're most fertile in the days leading up to ovulation and sperm can live for up to 5 days in fertile cervical mucus. Statistically, the best day is the day before the egg is released.

Google the Sperm Meets Egg Plan if you want to optimise DTD on the best days.

You can't have too much sex really (unless your DH has sperm issues). But personally, I find it gets tiresome when we start too early...! Haha.

Every other day is recommended. Every day can have a slightly higher (4%) chance of working if your DH has normal levels of sperm motility etc and you're both otherwise healthy.

Check out countdown to pregnancy website, SMEP and apps like Glow and Fertility Friend.

HTH! And good luck x

Hi guys,

Thank you for all the suggestions and support Smile.

I got a positive ovulation (static smiley face) on Thursday and Friday, so did it both days. Weirdly I did not get high fertility (flashing smiley face), just went straight to smiley face.

The app is way off compared to the ovulation kit - it is nearly always correct in predicting my period start time though, weird! The app says i'm ovulating on Sunday!

@WildFlower2019 - thank you for that suggestion. If we are unlucky this month we will try that next month xx

Testing negative now on the ovulation stick, so I guess the waiting begins!!!

Wish me luck xxx
