Confusion over the pill!

This is a bit of a confusing one! I'm not actively TTC or anything but I went on the pill for my migraines. Before the pill, we used condoms only however two days after I started the pill we had sex unprotected (no condoms.) We didn't really think about giving the pill a week to work, if I'm pregnant then we're happy and if we aren't then that's okay too. So here's a timeline of the events:
25th January (started the pill - Microgynon)
27th January (sex with no condoms)
30th (possible ovulation day pre pill according to my period app - not 100% sure though)
13th February (pre pill period due)
Unsure when my period would be due now I am on the pill however I was always regular before the pill.

I've had a few symptoms which has led me to believe that there's a chance I could be pregnant (or could be side effects of starting the pill?). I've been reading some of the TTC boards trying to get my head around implantation etc as I didn't really know too much about it.

But, I can't figure out whether or not I would have ovulated around the 30th, if it was delayed or if it even happened because of the pill. I feel abit daft that I'm 24 and don't really know too much about all of this.

So when would be the best time to take a test? I know that it's usually around your period due date, but mines all over the place now. Tomorrow would mark 3 weeks since the unprotected sex. I'm really nervous about posting this because I feel so daft not knowing this but I need some answers.

If it's three weeks since the sex then you should get a clear answer on a test - only one way to find out!

Sarahwalter23 · 16/02/2019 16:49

I thought that that may be the case but I needed to double check! I know I needed to test just was unsure if it's been left long enough etc. I feel a bit ashamed to be a woman and not really know about this stuff lol. Thank you!

I would test. I would also query whether you should be using a combined pill if you get migraines as its usually contraindicated

Sarahwalter23 · 16/02/2019 16:55

I think I may go get a test tonight to do in the morning, I heard it's best to do in the morning. I've got an appointment to go back for a checkup next week so I'll bring that up, my migraines aren't as bad but it could be a coincidence. I have heard people use contraception for migraines but I will definitely look into it!

Migraines are a reason not to use combined contraception. Mini pill is normally an alternative if you get migraines

dementedpixie · 16/02/2019 17:03

Or maybe it's just if it's migraines with aura that it's not advised

MonkeyToucher · 16/02/2019 17:57

On microgynon you take the pill for 21 days and then have a withdrawal bleed at some point during your 7 pill free days. So if you started on the 25th January you presumably took your last pill today? It’s not relevant when your pre-pill period would have been due, it’s only when you stop taking it for the 7 day break that you would have a “period”.

I’d still take a test to be sure, but not coming on your period on the 13th doesn’t indicate anything...:

Sarahwalter23 · 16/02/2019 18:26

Yes, I've finished my packet now. I know me not bleeding on the 13th doesn't mean I'm "late", I just thought I'd add that in because I am regular before the pill (obviously the pill has knocked it out of line by a few days) which is why I wondered if it would effect when I should test. I've had some symptoms which are a bit weird which I wondered if I could have fallen pregnant. I'm going to buy some tests tonight anyway! Thank you.

Yes three weeks since the sex a test should be reliable, just to echo what dementedpixie said a combined pill in anyone with migraines carries risk, maybe just double check with whoever prescribed it to keep you safe ( I’m a contraceptive nurse and it’s a big no no ) good luck with testing though

DerelictWreck · 16/02/2019 19:13

Agree with PPs - I've just been taken off the combo pill because of migraines. You should not be on it you have them

Ella1980 · 16/02/2019 19:16

I'm a migraines with aura sufferer and have been since childhood so can't take combined pill. Have been on mini pill (on and off) since 17 and I'm 38 now and still on it.
